Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.

Out for a walk yesterday and came across a cat in very poor condition. Skinny and dirty. I spoke to a neighbour who said he is fed twice a day. And has always looked scruffy.

Posted on my local cat's Facebook page, and got inundated with people telling me to basically cat nap him.

A rescue fit in touch with me who are willing to help. Went back for another look, there is a note on the bib saying that he's fed and watered and although the looks uncared for he isn't and is an actor. The person who was feeding him has died and the house sold. But he's still being cared for.
I feel that I should leave it. Its not ideal, but the note on the bin suggests other people are concerned and they are aware of it.
But now the rescue want to scan him and possibly take to a vet. Help what do I do now!!

It's lovely to see that Len is being looked after now. There seem to be a lot of comments and shares on the posts about him so hopefully that will help raise funds for the cost of his care. Thanks for sharing the bank details Snooks1971.

Written on the rescues Facebook page this morning

We have left Len in the care of the wonderful team at The Animal Doctor (Redhill).
We already know he's got a life limiting condition but we will have a better idea of prognosis soon

I think the people who said he was an actor should be made aware of this. Maybe a note up at his old home prison

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 11:24

I'm trying to find out what his conditions are. He looks just like Jess from postman pat in that pic! At least he has the strength to make a fuss. He didn't really protest at all when I captured him the first time.

@Toddlerteaplease As an aside, I think I saw your name on FB so you might want to name change in here for future postings, just in case

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 13:50

@longtompot it is but I'm
Not bothered about my identity on here. My dad is a Mumsnetter so
I'm already outed!

I'm really impressed by how many comments there are. I'm not on FB, so can't add a comment. I've donated via PayPal for Len. Love the old Tom's and hope more & more are given good homes.

Here's a few of my street fighters taken in during the last few years, and turned into soft lads😻

Unfortunately the news from the vets isn't great. Lovely Len has end stage liver failure. His bloods are awful. But as his is content and happy. They are taking him home to be spoiled and loved. He's currently scoffing roast chicken.

oh dear poor Len, let's hope he can spend the rest of his days surrounded by the love which he deserves.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 19:22

He's sitting by the ladies oven hoping for more chicken. 🤣

Oh bless him. Do they know how long he has left? 😭

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 20:14

No. Apparently his bloods are awful. But he's being treated like a king!

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2022 20:17

Poor thing. He’ll get treatment now though rather than dying outside alone. Poor cat.

Yarnasaurus · 06/05/2022 20:25

Oh poor Len Sad

But thank goodness he is warm and safe and cared for at this stage of his life.

BlanketsBanned · 06/05/2022 20:29

I hope the local.paper picks up his story and people made to realise that you cannot just leave such an obviously sick animal on the streets calling him a good actor.

Mia184 · 06/05/2022 20:47

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly if a cat is starving, it can cause liver problems.

Mia184 · 06/05/2022 20:49

I just checked and I was right: www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/digestive/c_ct_hepatic_lipidosis There is also a description on how to treat hepatic lipidosis. Though it might be too late, it might be worth a try?

CassandraCross · 06/05/2022 20:53

Oh bugger, I was hoping for a happier ending than that @Toddlerteaplease poor Len😥but his last days sound like they will be very happy and pleasant ones.

RavenT · 06/05/2022 21:11

That's such sad news. I've been following their Facebook page the last couple of days for updates. Len has become a bit of a star! His beautiful green eyes. 😍

So pleased he's being loved and getting roast chicken

Want2beme · 06/05/2022 21:14

Such a shame, but he's safe, warm and well fed now, love him. With your help Toddler, he's brought more attention to Mansfield Cat Rescue as well, which is fantastic. Hope he sleeps well tonight.

longtompot · 06/05/2022 21:48

Poor Len, but he is in a much better place being loved. Thank you @Toddlerteaplease for intervening and getting him the help he needed. You are a Star

*LEN - please remember this face the next time someone tells you the local stray you are worried about is fine where he is.

We are back home with Len and really are heartbroken for him.
He was rescued next a bin with a note on it saying he was a fine actor and just an old cat.
Len really is the poster boy for the message that "feeding is not enough" because Len is approaching the end of his life and until a few days ago was dying alone on the streets.

As suspected Len has quite advanced liver disease and is a palliative cat.
His bloods are worse than we anticipated and his prognosis is very poor.
He has had fluids and supportive treatment and is now back in his foster home being treated like a prince.
Len is now officially a Mansfield Cat Rescue convalescent cat.
Whether he has days, weeks or months, he will be able to live that time in his own home being spoilt absolutely rotten.
Huge thanks to the wonderful Animal Doctor and to vet Christina for today, we really are lucky to have you ❤*

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 21:49

Makes me sad to think how close he came to dying alone under a hedge.

What a little trouper. Awaited his rescuer and along one came. No happier dcat than one with a belly full of chicken.
Shame on the note writer.. Hope they see the article.

I’d be tempted to print it out and stick it next to the “he’s a good actor” note.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2022 22:16

The neighbours all knew about him but no I've did anything. It's a well off area FFS😡
