Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.

Out for a walk yesterday and came across a cat in very poor condition. Skinny and dirty. I spoke to a neighbour who said he is fed twice a day. And has always looked scruffy.

Posted on my local cat's Facebook page, and got inundated with people telling me to basically cat nap him.

A rescue fit in touch with me who are willing to help. Went back for another look, there is a note on the bib saying that he's fed and watered and although the looks uncared for he isn't and is an actor. The person who was feeding him has died and the house sold. But he's still being cared for.
I feel that I should leave it. Its not ideal, but the note on the bin suggests other people are concerned and they are aware of it.
But now the rescue want to scan him and possibly take to a vet. Help what do I do now!!

Sad news that Sam, the cat admitted a few days after Len has died. But tbh, I think I would have PTS straight away. He must have felt terrible. But at least his last weeks were filled with love and comfort.

Oh no, I feel really sad I was hoping he would pull off a miraculous recovery, 😢However, Len was gifted the most wonderful last few weeks full of love, kindness, attention and comfort, heartfelt thanks to all involved who cared enough to provide it for him.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/06/2022 19:26

I was expecting that they'd message me when the time came. Really sad. But happy his last months were full of love and he knew he was safe and loved.

Just read this entire thread dreading her inevitable. So sad to hear Len has gone, but thank you so much for changing his world for a few weeks Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 25/06/2022 19:35

To be honest I was expecting them to put him to sleep the day he was found as he looked so awful. So his extra time has been a bonus. Glad he knew love.

Yes, that's the main thing, he had a home and was loved if only for a short while. I went over and read the Facebook post which had my in tears. What a wonderful charity.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/06/2022 20:35

I just love the pictures of him looking so smug 😄

Oh that is so sad. I just looked at the date of this thread and see that Len had nearly two months of being looked after and feeling loved. That's an incredible thing, thanks to you Toddler and the staff at the rescue 🌈

Want2beme · 25/06/2022 22:36

How sad. RIP, Len. Glad you had a lovely home to end your days in. So sorry, ToddlerFlowers

Defiantlynot41 · 26/06/2022 00:41

Oh so sorry Toddler. We went without a treat so we could send them some money for Len, but I'm guessing they have loads of deserving mouths to feed.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 26/06/2022 01:11

Wait - I thought Sam has died?, not Len?

len’s still ok I think?

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 26/06/2022 01:14

Oh, just seen the Mansfield rescue Facebook post :(

I’m sorry OP, you did a wonderful thing giving him the chance of such a comfortable and happy last few weeks

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2022 07:24

@HotToddyColdSauvignon no, Len has died as well.

OP, thanks for caring about him and sharing his story on here. I'm now aware of a localish charity that I'd not previously heard of and have donated. I also hope to be able to foster/rehome for them in the future (my two elderly cats wouldn't tolerate any others).

HouseofHolbein · 26/06/2022 15:52

That's sad but he had so much love in his last weeks 💕

Snooks1971 · 26/06/2022 16:44

Oh no I’ve just read their update on the Facebook page and in tears. Thank you @Toddlerteaplease for rescuing him. I will be continuing with my small monthly standing order to the Rescue in memory of Lovely Len 😥

Snozzlemaid · 26/06/2022 19:09

Heartbroken for the lovely old fella.
So glad you rescued him and gave him the chance to know love for his last few weeks.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2022 19:49

I'm amazed by the impact he's had. And the amount of people heartbroken by his death. What a legacy for a stray cat. I wonder if he was the cat that frequently said hello when I was out for a walk on his patch.
