Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.

Out for a walk yesterday and came across a cat in very poor condition. Skinny and dirty. I spoke to a neighbour who said he is fed twice a day. And has always looked scruffy.

Posted on my local cat's Facebook page, and got inundated with people telling me to basically cat nap him.

A rescue fit in touch with me who are willing to help. Went back for another look, there is a note on the bib saying that he's fed and watered and although the looks uncared for he isn't and is an actor. The person who was feeding him has died and the house sold. But he's still being cared for.
I feel that I should leave it. Its not ideal, but the note on the bin suggests other people are concerned and they are aware of it.
But now the rescue want to scan him and possibly take to a vet. Help what do I do now!!

I would guess at worms with the tummy. At least I hope it's that and nothing more serious.

Bless you @Toddlerteaplease for helping this lovely old gent.

CarrieCookie · 03/05/2022 12:04

Here's hoping it's just worms or at least nothing sinister. Sending good vibes his way 🍀🤞

Imherenowandthen · 03/05/2022 12:09

I picked up a cat a few years ago in a similar situation, well, he got in my car! He belonged to someone who moved away, I asked around and the neighbours told me. He looked very skinny, but was so affectionate. I took him to the vets and unfortunately he had a mass in his tummy. We took him home, treated him for fleas and worms and fed him and loved him for a few days, then took him to be put to sleep. It was very sad, but he had a few happy days and wasn’t suffering anymore.

Want2beme · 03/05/2022 15:49

Really got my 🤞 for him, and you, Toddler.

It's a shame that if he pulls through I can't offer him a home. Snorg would unfortunately go ballistic. She is fine with Persians in her house. But god forbid a moggy appears on her patch and all he'll breaks loose.

I’m sure someone will have him @Toddlerteaplease, you’ve done your bit.
Let’s hope it’s good news. What time’s his appointment at the vets?

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 17:51

I've no idea. I've not had an update yet.

Maybe he’s Trans-Persian? He was in shocking condition so whatever happens he couldn’t stay like that. His quality of life was awful.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 19:35

Well we could try that! He self identifies as a Persian....

Apparently cat protection were aware of him. They were quite rude in the phone, I might have to reconsider my monthly donation. Might support this rescue instead.

I'm glad he is safe and comfortable. Poor boy. Hopefully the swollen belly is just due to worms.

I have stopped giving to CP too. My monthly money goes on a recurring Amazon order of cat and kitten food to the rescue where The terrible twosome came from, at least I know 100% goes to the cats!

viques · 03/05/2022 19:57

Well that is a cat who has been in a house before and knows how to chill!

Useranon1 · 03/05/2022 19:58

OP is it possible the note on the bin isn't about him? Owners who can't be bothered to worm or feed their cat are unlikely to put up signs about him!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 20:37

No, I think it's about him. As the neighbours were all aware of him. As his den was made out of two wheelie bins, with a sheet over the top.

Your dcat is an actual snob op!!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/05/2022 22:00

One of mine can't do gluten. Her belly feels like a ball if she accidentally gluten herself steals DP's leftovers when he doesn't scrape the plate

He might have the same if somebody is giving him bog standard cat food on the quiet.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 22:20

@Maydaysoonenough after seeing one of the photos the cattery took of my pair. I think you might be right. No idea why she's suddenly got airs and graces. She was also a rescue. 😻

Just wanted to add to what everyone else has said - well done @Toddlerteaplease. I'm so pleased this poor cat had the fortune to cross your path. We all know how much you care for your own two cats and you have given this poor cat at least a chance. If it turns out for the worst you prevented him suffering for any longer.

Want2beme · 03/05/2022 23:12

One of the loveliest things to see, is a stray cat finally being able to relax.

Allergictoironing · 04/05/2022 09:01

Can I ask which rescue it was that took him in?

LostCats · 04/05/2022 09:02

Actually yes, I’d be keen to know too as would like to donate to them as they’ve done something so kind. I hadn’t realised CP who we give regularly to, wasn’t exactly amazing to him.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2022 09:45

It's Mansfield cat rescue. ( though he was in Nottingham) I'm really impressed with them. As they were really pro active.
It's a registered charity. I'm going to swap
My CP donation to them. Apparently after sleeping for 24 hours he's more alert and is an absolute sweetie.

Can you imagine the relief after having to be on edge for so long. And then knowing you’re safe and warm and have a full tummy. The exhaustion must have been overwhelming.
Thank you so so much for helping him.
