Just had to leave my cat at the vets

My poor cat has been a bit off colour for a few days , last night seemed to be having problems peeing so I made a appointment and took him to the vets.
The poor mite has a very full bladder the vet tried to massage his bladder and relive it but it didn't work so he has to be anesthetized and a catheter fitted .

They also need to run some blood test take sure his liver and kidneys are ok .

worried

My cat is also prone to this, brought on by stress. He is an indoor cat and we have a pretty quite house, we are doing lots of work to the house which always brings the urinary problem on. Even if we are going on holiday, he gers stressed! He had an operation a few years ago because he couldn't pee at all, he still gets the urinary issue but we know what signs to look for. He is on a special urinary metabolic stress food which he will always have to have. Interestingly I bought some Dorwest Valarian Compound drops which are supposed to help with stress / anxiety. We had some work done on the house yesturday so I put a couple of drops on his bed the days leading up to yesturday and he has been very chilled, even today he seems fine (touch wood) he's currently y sat in his bed in front of the fire 😊 hope your cat gets better soon!

@NewYearCalavicci

How 'our' little guy doing ?

NewYearCalavicci · 01/02/2022 22:59

I keep losing this thread even when it's book marked . Sad

@Allergictoironing
They make great pets , I will post a couple of photos when I am on my laptop .

@JDandC
It seems to be stress that bring my cats on too but for the live of me I have no idea what set it off in the 1st place .
I was planing to have some carpets fitted last week but I put it off ( carpets paid for and waiting at the shop) partly because I don't want yo scare him more and also he is peeing I the wrong places so I don't want him to christen the new carpet! So I will try them drops, where did you get them ? Can you post a link please .

@Sweetpea1532
He is doing better , he still has to revisit his tray 2 or 3 times but he only does this 2 or 3 time a day now, before he was going 8 or 10 times just during the day. ( lots more at night )
He is also playing more and pestering to sit in his cage at the front door
( for them that missed it he is a house cat because he is a thug., but still like to get fresh air and sunshine outside )
He has had his medication course extended for a month so we will see how he goes .
He isn't out of the woods but things are improving tiny bit by tiny bit .

LOVE!!!!!

Sinuous bodies, cute faces, little black bandit masks, adorable hands, playful, affectionate, cuddly, intelligent - what's NOT to love about virtually all Mustelidae (except the occasional pong).

Thank you so much for the pics Grin

JDandC · 02/02/2022 09:13

@NewYearCalavicci of course, I got it from a pet shop but this is the stuff! www.dorwest.com/product/valerian-compound-for-dogs-and-cats/

NewYearCalavicci · 02/02/2022 17:12

@Allergictoironing , you nailed the description perfectly !

@JDandC , Thanks for the link , I will have a chat with my vet to see if it is ok to use in combo with the meds he is on at the min , one is a muscle relaxant with works as a v mild sedative too so I dont want him completely zonked out !

A quick update ,
He is improving ! Smile Smile Smile SmileSmile Smile Smile Smile
While he is still not back up to full health , he is better . He is peeing less often but going properly most of the time rather than just a few drips .
He is still on his meds but only two now ( he was on 6 ) I have changed his food to hills urine health stuff and put him on cystease .

I think the big test will be how he copes with my carpet been fitted , I have put it off for as long as possible but I think the shop will start charging me storage fees if i don't get is sorted soon !

Oh this is such a brilliant update! I have been checking incase you had updated, but didn't want to keep asking like some crazy cat stalker 🤣 fingers crossed he is ok with the carpet fitting.

GodspeedJune · 12/02/2022 20:39

Really pleased to hear things are going well with him. Long may it continue.

NewYearCalavicci · 12/02/2022 21:38

@Extratoebeans , stalk and ask as often as you like , I keep losing the thread ( and the plot to some days ! Confused )

Have you still got all your fingers op?

  • glad dcat is better but polecats are amazing.
NewYearCalavicci · 13/02/2022 11:39

Ha ha yes , he is surprisingly good with taking his pills , he gets a bit of lick e lix before and after so he just puts up with me poking the pills down.
He was also on a liquid med , he wasn't keen on syringe but we still managed OK.

The polecats were great , I would certainly consider getting more in the future.

@NewYearCalavicci
Wonderful news about kitty wee!

Don't tell anyone in the southern US that you have a polecat because a black and white skunk is also called a polecat in the South
But yours looks nothing like an American skunk😂🦨

Extratoebeans · 19/02/2022 21:41

@newyearcalavicci hows "our" boy doing? Have you had the carpets fitted yet? I hope he is continuing to improve.

NewYearCalavicci · 27/02/2022 14:02

Good news , he seems to be about 90% back to normal Grin

he still has odd days when he still seems to struggle a bit , and I wonder if he has had a fright while i am out ( someone dares to knock on the door or a dog barks )

I am now in the very slow process of getting some old tiles up off the floor then I can get a new carpet / wood floor fitted , that will be a real test for him as there will be a lot of noise and strangers in the house but although I want to do everything I can to help him recover I really need to get the floors sorted out I paid for the new flooring months ago !

Sweetpea1532 · 27/02/2022 20:02

@NewYearCalavicci
That's good news indeed!
And also good news you can get your new carpet fittedFlowers

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 28/02/2022 07:24

Aww that's such good news @NewYearCalavicci Grin

They do like to worry us - little furry buggers!

Extratoebeans · 28/02/2022 18:00

Excellent news, so glad he is almost back to normal. More photos would always be appreciated for his fans 😂

NewYearCalavicci · 28/02/2022 23:56

I had a chat with the vet and we agreed it would be a good idea to keep him on the meds for a bit longer so he doesn't relapse.

This is him doing his lion on gate post pose he is actually looking out of the bedroom window at the birds on the roof across the road Grin🐱

Just had to leave my cat at the vets

Sweetpea1532 · 03/03/2022 06:25

Awww @NewYearCalavicci
He's adorable! I love him🥰

NewYearCalavicci · 17/03/2022 21:26

Just a quick update for anyone that is still lurking on here .
First thank you all for the help advice and support it really did help me a lot .
My mad kitten seems to be completely back to his old ( young ??) self now .
He is still on some meds but only half the amount and this is more to wean him off them slowly so that its not a shock to his system .
But now he is back to waking me up at 3am shouting at paper bags / cats/ tin can/ leaves and anything else he feels like giving out to.

Obviously I still need to keep a eye on him and he is still on the special dry food ( he wont eat any of the wet foods I tried )

Smile Things are certainly looking much better
