Just had to leave my cat at the vets

My poor cat has been a bit off colour for a few days , last night seemed to be having problems peeing so I made a appointment and took him to the vets.
The poor mite has a very full bladder the vet tried to massage his bladder and relive it but it didn't work so he has to be anesthetized and a catheter fitted .

They also need to run some blood test take sure his liver and kidneys are ok .

worried

He had a PEE !

At some point over night he has had a pee , it looks like it was only small and I don't know if he had to try several times but it is a start .
I am WFH for the next few hrs but then I need to go to site so I am hoping he will go again before I leave but if not I will let him stay at home as I should be back by 7pm
If he has not pee'd by then its back to the vets 1st thing in the morning for the op

The poor bugger is on 6 dif meds 4 pills, 1 powder and 1 liquid and giving them to him is hard , he wont eat his food if I mix them in it , he doesnt like pill putty or lick-lix (sp?) so its going to be a battle 2x per day for the next week or so

Hooray, a pee!!! Grin

You'll need to make sure there's none left in the tray before you go out, or at least measure/photograph it if you think it being there will encourage him to go again.

NewYearCalavicci · 14/01/2022 12:28

He had another pee about 10 mins after me writing my last post,
I honestly cant believe I am posting about my cats bladder movements !

Fortunately he is happy to use puppy training pads to pee on as long as they are in his litter tray so I will put a clean one in before I go out.
.
I know he is far from out of the woods atm but at least I can see his whiskers poking between the branches Grin

That's amazing news! As you say, not out of the woods yet but promising.

Mia184 · 14/01/2022 16:05

I’m glad that he is finally able to pee on his own. I hope he will have had another one when you return home,

Extratoebeans · 15/01/2022 17:20

@Newyearcalavicci how is he doing today?

Sweetpea1532 · 16/01/2022 02:17

@NewYearCalavicci

Hooray, for kitty's peeing ! That news is the best Ive had so far this year...keep it up little kitty..we're all counting on you.😽

NewYearCalavicci · 16/01/2022 11:44

@Extratoebeans
He is doing ok , he is peeing but not offer or much but he us not constantly returning to his tray after trying to go.
But he is not himself he isn't grooming himself much and is sleeping much more than normal .
I am hopping it's just because he won't of slept much / properly while at the vets .
I am going to take him back tomorrow so the can have a feel of his bladder.
He has still got lots of meds to get through and I have just ordered a load of urinary protective food ( £80 for about a months supply ! )

Please excuse any typos or bad grammar there's something wrong with my phone and I can only see about two-thirds of the screen so I can't see what I'm writing all the time

Depending on what medication he's on, it could effect his energy levels and his appetite, and I suspect he's still feeling a little bit sore after all that treatment, bless his paws.

Hopefully he's on his way to recovery, though :)

Extratoebeans · 16/01/2022 16:06

Oh poor boy. It could be a combination of stress from being at the vets and his medication. Hopefully the vet trip tomorrow is positive

NewYearCalavicci · 16/01/2022 18:23

I have spoken to the vets today , they said that the muscle relaxant that he is on can work as a mild sedative and sometimes make them a bit uncoordinated, so that explains why he is zonked out so much .

They said as long as he is still peeing and not having to retry I dont need to bring him back in unless I am really worried , he has been a few more times today so rather than get him stressed on busses and at the vets I am going to leave it for another day and see how he is on tue / wed .

Paws crossed !

If he's still peeing that's a good sign! :)

Paws crossed from here for the little fellow!

Sweetpea1532 · 16/01/2022 19:29

@NewYearCalavicci
Fingers crossed here too!
The progress sound good though.Flowers

Extratoebeans · 16/01/2022 23:32

Thats a great update from the vet. 🤞

sunshinesupermum · 17/01/2022 09:50

NewYearCalavicci So pleased for you! Hopefully peeing will carry on normally now. Zelda seems much better too, since taking her anti inflammatory and no blood in urine at all now, touch wood. Have started her on Hills CD cat food (which she seems to enjoy) as suggested by vet plus Cistease. I now have to check whether she still should go back for a urine check under sedation to ensure there is nothing else going on other than stress. Flowers

Sweetpea1532 · 17/01/2022 13:05

@sunshinesupermum

That's great news about your Zelda...I'm glad she likes her new foodFlowers

@NewYearCalavicci..how are things with little kitty today?🤞

NewYearCalavicci · 17/01/2022 17:44

@sunshinesupermum , I am glad Zelda is doing better , can ask which brand her meds are I have looked on Amazonbut the choice is baffling .

Unfoutnaly he is not doing so good today so we are on our way back to the vets now .🙁
