My poor cat has been a bit off colour for a few days , last night seemed to be having problems peeing so I made a appointment and took him to the vets.
The poor mite has a very full bladder the vet tried to massage his bladder and relive it but it didn't work so he has to be anesthetized and a catheter fitted .

They also need to run some blood test take sure his liver and kidneys are ok .

worried

Hope you get some good news on this little one, x

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 04/01/2022 21:31

You're welcome @NewYearCalavicci Thanks

Two of my cats have had urinary problems and I know how upsetting and scary it can be. I really hope you get some clear answers soon and that your lovely boy turns a corner.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 05/01/2022 01:20

Mine had a blood clot blocking him, no crystals and he was in for a couple of days. And fuming about it Blush
The vet said stressed cats don't wee and to take him home; she picked him up, he glared at her and did a giant wee with great satisfaction all over her Blush

NewYearCalavicci · 05/01/2022 18:40

Update - he us peeing through the catheter ok so they are going to keep it in until tomorrow .
Then see how he goes for a few hours if he does I can pick him up but if not they will reinsert it and keep him in another night .
He u6s not eating much (he only has a small appetite do not to worried about this atm)
If he still can't pee he wi prob need surgery .Sad Shock

She's got a lung infection. Kind of asthma /bronchitis for cats Sad.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 06/01/2022 07:22

Oh no @NewYearCalavicci - sorry it's not better news but at least he's peeing with the catheter in bless him.

My old boy had surgery - it was hard at the time but he recovered just fine - we put him on a special urinary diet and never had another reoccurrence Smile

swapsicles · 06/01/2022 07:54

My dcat had this 3 years ago. Had to stay at the vets over the weekend after emergency surgery. Not sure what caused it as my other cat is way more stressy and he's fine Confused.
Very stressful time as my vets could only look after him in the daytime and the emergency vet was 40 mins away and could only look after him at night so I had to transport him morning and night at that time catheter and all by myself when he was barely conscious Sad I have now changed vets!
He's not had an episode since and afterwards I gave him urinary food for a time but since switched to normal food but one without sugars or grains and a daily cystease tablet, ( about £10 for 100 at vetuk)
No issues since at all, not sure if the food has made a difference or it's just a coincidence but they have also stopped throwing up so much too so that's a bonus with 3 cats Grin
Wishing your dcat all the best, they are a worry at times!

NewYearCalavicci · 07/01/2022 06:26

Its not looking good , he was kept in for two nights , i picked him up yeterday evening.
Vet said he had just dine a big per, so I was really relived but late last night and this morning he has tried to pee again but can't.

There are no crystals in his pee .
He is getting ( understandably) stressed , pacing washing his bits and tummy a lot .
Poor little sod is not a happy cat.

Going to ring the vets again as soon as they are open and get him back in this evening . .

So sorry to hear this OP.
I really hope he is ok soon, and your employers are understanding. You had to do it, can't leave him in pain.
Keep us posted and good luck.

SunshineCake1 · 07/01/2022 11:03

You've done the right thing and if they sack you over this then they are the ones in the wrong. Let us know how he gets on. Good luck.

NewYearCalavicci · 07/01/2022 17:52

Well i got him to the vets , they expressed his bladder again there and then he was holding on to about 3x the amount of pee that most cats do .
They are keeping him again with a catheter and are going to operate on him either tomorrow or Monday.

They are going to change his urethra so it's shorter and straighter
They still can't figure out why this has suddenly become a issue as there doesn't seem to be a blockage or anything physically wrong with him

The manager of site I was working at today ( I am a sub contractor ) asked where i had been so i told him , and got ready for a ear bashing , he said next time something like this comes up let me know and i will cover for you if your boss turns up .

My boss doent know I left site 🙂

SunshineCake1 · 07/01/2022 17:56

Fingers crossed your cat is helped and good news about the manager.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 07/01/2022 17:59

Oh bless him - and your site manager sounds wonderful!

Some cats just have weirdly shaped/sized urethras and it causes issues - but at least this means you've ruled out crystals or other causes for a blockage. Hopefully the surgery works and he feels much better soon, poor lad.

The tummy licking is very common when they're in pain - mine did it too! He looked very weird all bald but he's much better now :)

NewYearCalavicci · 07/01/2022 21:26

The nurse phoned me about an hour ago just let me know he has settled and had his medication he is weeing through his catheter ok. He is till very nervous not eating much and not happy but that was to be expected I guess.

I still don't know when the operation is going to be if they can fit them in tomorrow they will do but it's looking more like Monday as they are very busy tomorrow.

I must admit reaction from the site manager really surprised me as he is known to be a bit of a hot head at times but apparently he has got a softer side which I am very pleased about although I think I might owe him a favor now Grin

sunshinesupermum · 08/01/2022 13:06

Fingers crossed the op sorts your DCat s problem OP x

NewYearCalavicci · 08/01/2022 13:48

His op is defiantly going to be on Monday so he is staying there over the weekend.
I hate him not been here but I am going to use the chance to get his litter trays , bed , toys a really good clean but I wont wash his fave toy and towel so he has a familiar smell when he comes home

@NewYearCalavicci

I hope little kitty's surgery went well.Flowers

NewYearCalavicci · 10/01/2022 14:47

@ sweetpea1532,
My car never does anything stight foward,
The vets have had to delay his surgery because he pulled his catheter out and caused some swelling ( ouch ! )
They have also said if they do the surgery the scar tissue could cause a blockage, so the cure could cause the same problem .
So they are going to try steroids for 3/ 4 days to see if that works , if it dosnt they will go ahead with the surgery and keep their finger crossed. If it causes a blockage there is no going back and he will have to be pts.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 10/01/2022 14:49

Oh no, I'm sorry the update isn't too bright but hopefully surgery will solve the problem. Many cats have surgery and live happy, healthy lives afterwards so fingers crossed something works for him Flowers

Sweetpea1532 · 10/01/2022 17:53

Oh, Al. I'm so sorry to hear about your little one and all his troubles..fingers crossed the steroids will sort it out❤Flowers
