So do I or don't I?

Yesterday I took my friend to pick a kitten from my brothers house.
I fell in love with one of the kittens who was absolutely adorable.
I sent my husband photos and he said 'if you want one get one but I won't be involved' (we all know that would last about five minutes 😂)
After playing with them all for about an hour we pack up friends kitten and head home.
Now I'm thinking I should have brought the one home that I liked. Especially given that it's the only one that isn't spoken for.
We have an older dog who is soft as anything and would wander round the garden with our guinea pigs when we had them with no prey drive at all. She would ignore my mums old cat when we visited. She was more interested in the poop. Which leads me to another con on the list.
My heart says yes but my head says no. We had no plans to get a cat but we can afford one. My kids would love it, but it's, potentially, a 15 year plus commitment.
There are probably more cons than pros!
Realistically I know that it's care would fall to me as the dogs does.
I have no idea how much keeping a cat costs. I'd get insurance because we all know cats can get themselves into sticky situations!
If it makes a difference I did animal care at college and I've worked in rescue and boarding previously.

If you were me what would you do?

When my friend and I got our first kittens (we were housemates at the time) we couldn't figure out why they never pooped and considering if we should ask a vet about it.

They were pooping in the plant pots.

My foster kittens upended a large cactus (in a room they were not meant to have access to). Three of them plus their mum were eating more or less a whole box of kitten pouches plus a bowl of dry food a day. Bottomless pits. They did double in size while we had them and used up a lot of energy on playing and wanton destruction.

Jules0702 · 15/10/2021 09:24

Oh my goodness! She looks so much like ours. We just got her last month. We’re so happy that we got her. They were at a standoff when we first got them but they’re firm friends now. I think thatbJunipurr thinks that Pippa is her mum as she’s always making biscuits on her and licking her chest/stomach.

Oh wow they are similar aren't they? Beautiful.
Thank you all for your input on this thread. I've just been back through from the beginning and it's mad it's less than three weeks ago. She's part of the family and feels like she's been causing mischief here for longer! She had a mad half hour this morning tearing round the downstairs like she was doing parkour 😂

I've come in from work late tonight and she's been super snuggly. She's been ignoring Dh recently too! He's taking it personally 😜

So cute! Like kids eh, one minute their daddy girl and the next it mummy’s girl….and so on.

Meanwhile the ignored one gets all hurt. Grin

CatChant · 18/10/2021 14:52

Lovely, cuddly cutie. She definitely loves you and it sounds like she fell firmly on all four paws when she wheedled her way into your heart.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2021 18:12

I was going to suggest to your DH that he goes off to cuddle the guinea-pigs but it looks ike they were previous pets .
I do miss ours , they were hard work but guinea-pigs will cuddle anyone who feeds them Grin no scruples .

I sometimes say to DH The guinea-pigs didn't do THAT if the cats are pests . His reply The guinea-pigs didn't do anything

The turd !

Aww look at her big eyes Grin

Yes cats will barge into the bathroom , no manners !
Our female pushes the door open and either walks along the bath then peers through the curtain, or jumps onto the towel shelf and does the *I Fits - I Sits^ cat thing .

FinishWhatWeStarted · 23/10/2021 16:39

Second jab today along with microchip, wormer and flea tablets.
Turns out she came with several 'visitors'.
Made the fatal error of booking her and the dog for their jabs at the same time so that wasn't a cheap trip! Pooch also needed her anal glands doing and has a bit of a skin issue. I though that was a reaction to flea bites but completely didn't think about full anal glands. 🙈
She's had wormer and flea treatment too along with some hibiscrub and some tablets to help ease the itching.
Cass is now flat out on me. She's a bit tender round the microchip site.
Vet was impressed with her weight gain. She was approx 1.1kg when we got her and almost four weeks later is 1.7kg!
Can you believe it's four weeks tomorrow since we got her? It's like she's always been here.
You were all right. Especially the poster who said we would all have a little bit more joy in our lives.

That’s good she’s all sorted out.Hopefully that means the ‘visitors’ will be gone now.

Grin
CatChant · 24/10/2021 09:33

I think you meant to say a lot more joy. Wink

I do love that earnest little face gazing at you. Hope all the 'visitors' are gone now.

FinishWhatWeStarted · 26/10/2021 18:15

Looks like all the visitors have gone and the dog is much happier and less itchy. She's gone back to sitting on dh's shoulder in the evening whilst I'm at work. Little traitor 😂

@Elieza

They say men are physically warmer than women??!!
It's weird because she likes to lie curled up on my belly/chest with her head on my face. With him it's his shoulder.

Aww, little scamp Grin

Dh is away so we are having cuddles tonight whilst I have a glass of wine and read. I love her markings underneath. So unusual 🥰
