So do I or don't I?

Yesterday I took my friend to pick a kitten from my brothers house.
I fell in love with one of the kittens who was absolutely adorable.
I sent my husband photos and he said 'if you want one get one but I won't be involved' (we all know that would last about five minutes 😂)
After playing with them all for about an hour we pack up friends kitten and head home.
Now I'm thinking I should have brought the one home that I liked. Especially given that it's the only one that isn't spoken for.
We have an older dog who is soft as anything and would wander round the garden with our guinea pigs when we had them with no prey drive at all. She would ignore my mums old cat when we visited. She was more interested in the poop. Which leads me to another con on the list.
My heart says yes but my head says no. We had no plans to get a cat but we can afford one. My kids would love it, but it's, potentially, a 15 year plus commitment.
There are probably more cons than pros!
Realistically I know that it's care would fall to me as the dogs does.
I have no idea how much keeping a cat costs. I'd get insurance because we all know cats can get themselves into sticky situations!
If it makes a difference I did animal care at college and I've worked in rescue and boarding previously.

If you were me what would you do?

@CatChant

Adorable!

My lovely look-a-like was tiny all her life no matter how much she ate. But she made up for her small stature with bags of personality.

She's absolutely full of beans! If she wasn't I would be worried. This is tonight's treat! I'm a very happy kitten owner 😂

She looks sooo peaceful when she sleeps . Like she knows she's landed on her paws . (My cats have the Yeah this'll do for now face Grin )

Does she do the mad-half-hour-runaround then flump out for a catnap?

She doesn't really sleep deeply during the day as she's on the go with mini catnaps! So the evenings have her flat out!

Oh what a cuddly love of a kitten she is. I am cooing over every picture!

Not bothering with a Christmas tree then this year? At least not one with fragile decorations...

Yeah I have to admit I hadn't considered that until this week when someone posted a photo of a cat and a Christmas tree. We don't have much in the way of fragile decorations but I think I'll have to get dh to fix the tree to the windows somehow 😂

We have a pre-lit tree (fake) I put nothing on it the first year , just lights on static .
It lasted 4 days
Last year (God loves a trier , right ?) same tree , lights .
I think it lasted a couple of weeks .

It might be 3rd Time Lucky this year .

Mine are lardy adults not agile kitten but FemaleCat doesn't like the tree !

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 14/10/2021 13:04

My fluffy one loves to sleep under the tree...

Ahh now Ted ( Gather Dougal voice ) you've had 18 Days of Being Good .

Killing your houseplant was well overdue in my view .

Loving the cat pics. Who doesn’t like a snuggling kitten or a cat ‘in’ a Christmas tree Grin

Not so keen on the deceased plant, naughty DH! I hope she enjoyed her digging. You may even find a surprise present from her in there!

We are in a stand off at the moment over my plant in the front window. I came home to soil all over the window ledge. She's winning!

Try the old tinfoil over the soil routine? If you can shape it round the plant she may forget the soil is there and leave em alone. They say cats don’t like tinfoil. Mine didn’t give a toss!

I think Pandora’s box of earth has now been opened and the plants may be getting moved to a safer location and locked away from d-cat who has discovered how to dig !Grin

Question oh knowledgable ones.
I've got her on kitten food but we are flying through it. What do people use? When can I move her to adult food so I can buy in bulk?

When she’s a year old. Kittens eat a lot.

Ooh, I would have the kitten in a heartbeat. But I'll pass on the DH - I've got a cat-friendly one here already. Grin

Kittens eat like ravening beasts. I used to marvel at how much such small creatures could put away.

In my experience they hugely enjoy Christmas trees. And there is something delightful about a small whiskered face emerging from a mass of shaking greenery. But absolutely nothing delicate will survive. This is not the year for delicate glass ornaments. Or houseplants it seems.
