So do I or don't I?

Yesterday I took my friend to pick a kitten from my brothers house.
I fell in love with one of the kittens who was absolutely adorable.
I sent my husband photos and he said 'if you want one get one but I won't be involved' (we all know that would last about five minutes 😂)
After playing with them all for about an hour we pack up friends kitten and head home.
Now I'm thinking I should have brought the one home that I liked. Especially given that it's the only one that isn't spoken for.
We have an older dog who is soft as anything and would wander round the garden with our guinea pigs when we had them with no prey drive at all. She would ignore my mums old cat when we visited. She was more interested in the poop. Which leads me to another con on the list.
My heart says yes but my head says no. We had no plans to get a cat but we can afford one. My kids would love it, but it's, potentially, a 15 year plus commitment.
There are probably more cons than pros!
Realistically I know that it's care would fall to me as the dogs does.
I have no idea how much keeping a cat costs. I'd get insurance because we all know cats can get themselves into sticky situations!
If it makes a difference I did animal care at college and I've worked in rescue and boarding previously.

If you were me what would you do?

OP - you are now "the other woman" in your relationship. It happened to my DH too, we rescued a cat who was living in our back garden. We spent months gaining her trust and eventually she decided that indoors was far nicer than outdoors. She only had eyes for DH - I was the evil bitch who took her to the vet. They had a beautiful relationship until she died as a very old cat.

We've cracked it! She's currently laid on me purring her little head off. She's actually licking my cheek which I'm not sure of 😂
She's got a thing about kicking eyebrows and eyelashes which is obviously unhygienic 🙈
But she's choosing to snuggle with me. I mean granted my husband and everyone else is out of the house and I'm ill on the couch. Oh god she's just licked in my ear. Argh?!

They do like to lick you. I’m not keen either but what can you do?

Toddlerteaplease · 06/10/2021 13:32

Cheddar drops on my cheek. I'd swap that for being licked!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/10/2021 13:33

Have you got a fleece blanket on OP. If so, that will be what she's after.

Chemenger · 06/10/2021 16:34

I used to have a cat that loved to stick her nose in my ear and purr, she was a bit dribbly so it could be a little damp. We called it smurgling (which might not be a real word).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/10/2021 18:44

Our little shy boy drools when DD or DH tickle his chin.

At 5am when he climbs over us and drops COLD spit on me is less cute

His sister wouldn't give you the steam off her pooh , no dribbly spit affection from her .

So do I or don't I?

Some play seen today between Cassie and the dog!
Cass was lying under her tunnel and batting the dog. Dog wandered off but came back and did some gentle play bowing. Then the cat batted back and the dog jumped and caught her on her tail with her foot. She's fine and was back tormenting the dog within five minutes! Loving watching this.

Aw so cute. Grin

I love this thread.

Can't show you the video so I've screen shot some photos! The first one is of them playing, the second is Cass bopping the dog on the nose and the third is after the dog accidentally jumped on her foot and she wasn't happy! Look at those claws!

So do I or don't I?

Oh the poor dog, being put in its place by a tiny scrap of a kitten. GrinGrin

I'm waiting for the first picture of Cassie and the dog curled up together. Great thread and I love the updates.

I think it will happen at some point. We've only had her 13 days which is madness!

There's something almost human about her face. I bet she's very clever.

CatChant · 11/10/2021 18:28

Oh, she is the image of my adored and, sadly, long gone tortie.

If she is like her in personality then she will be very clever, and very affectionate, and you will have absolutely hit the jackpot to get her, OP.

FinishWhatWeStarted · 12/10/2021 09:34

She came for a brief cuddle with me this morning once she'd realised I was the only one left in the house. Grin

Oh yes, the trademark tilted head and beseeching eyes :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/10/2021 10:05

When your favourite human goes out and your left with the other human. The one who wanted to adopt you in the first place.

My dh knows the feeling well.

CatChant · 12/10/2021 10:23

Ah yes, I remember that 'don't leave me' face - generally displayed when you were already running late to catch a train.

I used to end up scuttling down the road with my coat dragged on and feeling a total heel, while missy and her sister burgled the airing cupboard and settled down for a lovely snooze in the clean towels and sheets.

Elieza · 12/10/2021 15:42

Is it just me or does she look a lot bigger in just a couple of weeks!! Grin

FinishWhatWeStarted · 13/10/2021 13:34

She's growing but I'd like a bit more weight on her. She's gained since we got her. She has biscuits down permanently and two pouches of food. I planned on feeding her four times a day but she doesn't eat it all in one go! She pretty much always has food available Hmm

So do I or don't I?

Adorable!

My lovely look-a-like was tiny all her life no matter how much she ate. But she made up for her small stature with bags of personality.
