At my friend's yard, one of their semi-feral cats used to lie on the back of one of the horses when he (the horse) was rugged up.

QueenCT · 17/08/2020 19:57

Stable cats have always got used to them v v quickly. Ollie "big FING. No FANKS"

Paws has been in, assessed the food situation and left again. I feel judged

My boys have a new catnip toy each. They're very happy. Wish the kids were so easily pleased.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2020 21:30

Have they slobbered all over them?. Asbo always drooled on them.

coastergirl · 17/08/2020 23:05

Yep. They lie on the floor with them, rolling around and licking them until they are so soggy. It's delightful.

QueenCT · 18/08/2020 00:20

Paws properly slobbers over his. He's got a yeowww catnip thing. Ollie has no interest, unless paws has it HmmGrin

Little lovely darling Paws Grin

Just had to put my foot firmly down. I ended up with the sons girlfriend over lockdown as her mother refused to have her home. I’ve still got her now as her mother has moved areas and downsized. Now I’ve been asked to take the girlfriends cat as the mom doesn’t want to take it with her. She’s taking her other cats and her dog tho...

I’ve said no. It’s an outside cat. Not been spayed. Had a litter a few weeks ago (only just over a year old 😢)

They reckon they can keep her in their bedroom. It’s a fucking health hazard without adding a cat to the mix. I feel a bit mean but I’m not disturbing the dynamic between my cats just because someone else can’t be bothered to look after their own iyswim.

Plus the girlfriend is saying how much she misses her cat. Funny she never even mentioned her in the six months since she moved in...

swampytiggaa · 19/08/2020 19:48

I feel a bit mean tho but the husband has strongly put his foot down too.

Supersimkin2 · 19/08/2020 20:00

Swampy you're right. You can't keep an outside cat in a bedroom.

TCN is the superhero you need right now.

swampytiggaa · 19/08/2020 21:07

TCN?

Tbh if they even try to sneak her in they can find alternative accommodation. This is my line in the sand.

@swampytiggaa An outdoor cat by choice or one they just aren’t interested in looking after?. How many cats actually choose to live outside in a country that has winters like ours?.

Did they sell her kittens?.

TheLongRider · 19/08/2020 22:40

It's been an eventful day. We're on holiday in the south-east of Ireland. We went for a 10 mile walk along the local river. On the way back we heard mewing in the bushes besides a lock keeper's cottage and spotted a small but frantic kitten.

I rang the doorbell of the cottage and talked to the owner who said that the kitten had been abandoned a week ago. They'd taken it to the vet but it wouldn't stop squawking and was disturbing their other cat and dog. I offered to take it and she was only too happy for us to do so. She even gave me a sachet of cat food to lure it out of the bushes.

We got the kitten and I walked the remaining 4 miles with a purring but grubby kitten curled up in my hoody. There's an amber warning for a storm here tonight and tomorrow. It's a boy, about 10 weeks old. He's quite friendly and has stuffed his face since we got back. We went to the local supermarket and bought cat litter, food and a couple of cardboard boxes as a litter tray and nest.

We'll bring him home with us on Saturday to meet our other 4 cats. He is quite shouty so hopefully we'll have an ok night.

So yes we have an extra cat.

@TheLongRider Shock have you got a name?

OP posts:
Defiantly41 · 19/08/2020 22:43

@TheLongRider ThanksHalo

TheLongRider · 19/08/2020 22:57

Open to suggestions for a name. He's a ginger tabby no white patches. You can see if you can do better than DD11. Spud is at the top of her list but Woody is a serious contender.

Supersimkin2 · 19/08/2020 22:59

Darling @TheLongRider, you total Star Star Starhero Star Star Star.

Most beautiful kitten in Ireland Grin Grin Grin and a ginger tom.

Within months you might have an eight-kilo ginger tom in your bed at night, most recommended.

What is the young gentleman's name? Arion is the Greek hero who was rescued from the storm...

Supersimkin2 · 19/08/2020 23:02

Everyone will call him Ariel or Persil tho'. Woody from the Hoody has a ring to it.

@swampytiggaa TCN = @thecatneuterer, MN's own feline rescuer. She is a vet and knows all about where and how to get a cat rescued.

Papergirl1968 · 19/08/2020 23:49

Well done, TheLongRider. Lucky that you came along.
Do you live in Ireland anyway, or gone from UK there on holiday?
Shamrock, Seamus, River, Lucky, Paddy, Patrick, Finn, Niall, Shane...
Queen, your facebook post about Ollie's first look at a horse made me howl. Grin

Papergirl1968 · 19/08/2020 23:53

Or another Irish name is Rory, which means rust coloured. And you said he was noisy!

TheLongRider · 19/08/2020 23:53

We live in Dublin and we're staying in a self-catering cottage for this week. The owner of the holiday cottage is an animal lover and is ok with us keeping the kitten in the house until we go home.

QueenCT · 20/08/2020 00:01

@Papergirl1968 he had eyes like saucers. To be fair I don't live in an area where it's usual to see a horse trotting past Grin
He flew in from the garden and then peered around the blinds and then hid for a bit

Oh what a gorgeous kitten! @TheLongRider you are brilliant and I hope it works out. I think you should call him Mikey. I work with autistic children and one of my lovely boys is ginger and called Mike.
