I’m so sad and worried
One of my three beautiful cats has overnight lost the use of her back legs and is dragging them
We are seeing the vet this afternoon
She is almost thirteen
Three months ago her right hind leg was stiff and she was a bit wobbly on it. Bloods were run and didn’t reveal and raised markers she was predicted pain relief and within days was back to her normal self.
The last few days she has been a bit stiff again but was still getting up into the cat tree, using her litter tray and eating and walking fine
Yesterday she just went downhill late at night.

My heart is in my mouth and I’m so sad. She is eating today but I’ve had to help her back into her favourite hiding hole . She’s had water and used the litter tray. She’s let me brush her and cuddle her.
When I call her she responded and is purring occasionally plus her eyes are bright. I’m hoping against hope aren’t I?

I’m terrified this is a saddle thrombus / thrombosis

I’m so worried she will need to be PTS today when I take her.

Does anyone have any happy outcomes for this sort of thing. I’ve had her and her sister since they were 12 weeks old they have been my family before I had one of my own 😢

@stophuggingme

Good news that Dolly is improving. I hope she is enjoying the weather. Just enjoy each day and try not to worry too much.

Colin is now Taiki. He has settled in well apart from being obsessed with food. I got him several puzzle feeders from Amazon and he is improving and swaggering around. He is very clever, friendly and gentle, yet a big and clumsy cat.

We went to get my old cat's ashes from the vet. I got emotional when I saw the vet had taken a paw print.
I ordered a hand painted cremation urn from Germany. DD2 and I were thinking of having rings made with some of her ashes.

stophuggingme · 28/05/2020 22:43

@Wolfff
Much prefer the new name, glad he is settling in well
I can imagine how sad it was to collect the ashes and see the paw print. Had. Heard of the ashes in jewellery and love that idea, what a special way to keep her close Flowers

In other news we were back at vets tonight and Dolly is “doing very well “ the vets are amazed at her progress. She’s gained weight, is walking more and eating and brighter. Another week of lowered painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs.
She’s still holding the dog’s bed hostage and currently sprawled out in in it snoring her Encore chicken and rice off

Day by day but the vet said tonight she was like a different cat to the one the saw three weeks ago. I said is been setting my alarm for every three hours in the night to come and check her, they said that was what really loving and caring for a pet was about. Well she’s part of my little family so it goes without Saying

The three children were delighted to see her again with her new meds. They’ve made her a rainbow picture for her bed to “cheer her up and make her keep going”
She purred a lot but that may have been the webbox stick Wink

Wow. She has made amazing progress and it’s down to your exceptional care!

nettie434 · 29/05/2020 08:11

What a lovely image of Dolly lying in the dog's bed with an NHS rainbow picture on the wall beside her. Your care and Dolly's determination seem to have won through!

Wolfff, it sounds like Taiki is settling in really well. The paw print was a thoughtful thing to do. It's good that you will have physical mementos along with your memories.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/05/2020 18:48

@Wolfff my niece has a ring with her dg ashes and it’s a lovely way to remember them.

Op you are looking after that little cat so well, I’m so pleased she’s improving.

stophuggingme · 30/05/2020 20:22

Came home this afternoon and Dolly can’t use her front legs
We have given her her pain relief and need to call the vets
I think this is our last weekend together. I am sat her cuddling her and typing this through tears. Her sister is circling and keeps coming to nuzzle her.
Heartbroken

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/05/2020 20:24

Oh no, can you ring tonight? Maybe the reduction in pain relief has affected her?.

stophuggingme · 30/05/2020 21:21

She’s just wet herself
I’m here on my own with three little Children and no chance i can get to the vets tonight
I’ve cleaned her, syringed her some water and given her her anti inflammatory meds but I can tell she’s had enough
Just going to sit up tonight with her and keep her company then I can hopefully get someone to sit with the kids Tomorrow morning

It is really heartbreaking

Thanks

Oh no, so sorry to hear this. Thinking of you and Dolly.

Wolfff · 30/05/2020 21:42

You have done absolutely all you can and gone above and beyond to have a little bit longer with her.

stophuggingme · 30/05/2020 22:23

She’s snoring away but is definitely working harder to breathe
I don’t know what rondo I feel like I can’t do anything but sit watching her
The Two older children are so upset

She was fine on Friday
Going to be a long and sad night

Oh dear me, this is so very sad. My heart goes out to you. You have done your very, very best for Dolly. I hope you are able to get some rest tonight and that whatever comes tomorrow is gentle and kind for all of you.

nettie434 · 30/05/2020 23:36

Oh Stophuggingme 😢 Nobody could have done more than you. Dolly is lucky to have you and she is clearly an exceptionally lovely cat because you and your children love her so much.

TheLongRider · 31/05/2020 01:57

Hand hold from here.Flowers

You've definitely done what you can for her.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2020 08:10

How is she?.

stophuggingme · 31/05/2020 08:37

Stayed down with her until about 2am just cuddling her. She was still purring occasionally but didn’t eat anything. I stringed her some water
Went down at 6am she’s moved from the dog bed to the cat bed under the cat tree and used her litter tray (she is the only one of my three cats who uses one specific tray and her poo has always been firmer than the other two so I know it’s her) she hadn’t wet herself again. So I left her
Then went down at 8am and she’s somehow gone and hid in her favourite place in a four inch corner gap between the washing machine and cupboard.
I have no idea how she’s dragged herself there or anywhere, especially since I filled the gap with stiff cardboard and wedged it in after last time
I can’t move the washer and the cupboard has no kick boards to lift so don’t know how to get her out of there
She started purring when I called her and I squeezed some little piece of webbox in the gap to try and tempt her

Will give it a couple of hours then have to get a saw and try cut the cupboard side out I guess. She will need her meds 😔

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2020 10:06

Is she still there?.

stophuggingme · 31/05/2020 10:24

Yes and I can’t get her out

OP posts:
stophuggingme · 31/05/2020 10:25

She was in there for four or five hours two weeks ago
She’s moving position under there

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2020 13:45

Is she still in there?.

stophuggingme · 31/05/2020 14:35

Yes she’s moving around but won’t come out
I’m going to have to go and get a saw from somewhere to saw my cupboard off

stophuggingme so sorry to read how this thread is progressing. We are in a similar boat. We've been to the emergency vet this morning as one of our three has what started out like a cold but has progressed. The vet says she has a large mass behind her eye and because of how quickly the symptoms have come on she (vet) thinks its aggressive and malign. Surgery is unlikely to be an option but we've brought her home today with steroids and pain killers and she's snuggled up. Back to usual vets tomorrow for another check up/view but we're not holding out much hope.

Sending love

stophuggingme · 31/05/2020 14:58

I’ve managed to chisel and hammer the kick board off and her her out. Had to pull the floor up . Thank god it was the utility room as it’s wrecked
She’s had her medicine and I’ve got a big double cat carrier with plenty of ventilation and a Perspex panel at the front so I can see her. She’s got a cushion, water and a bit oif encore chicken.
She looked at me as if to say “I’m so tired, please I have had enough”

I rang the vets and I can take her in tomorrow
We are all absolutely broken hearted
Almost thirteen years of being by my side side through thick and thin

I love her so much but know it’s time to say goodbye now

Is this the end ?
