I’m so sad and worried
One of my three beautiful cats has overnight lost the use of her back legs and is dragging them
We are seeing the vet this afternoon
She is almost thirteen
Three months ago her right hind leg was stiff and she was a bit wobbly on it. Bloods were run and didn’t reveal and raised markers she was predicted pain relief and within days was back to her normal self.
The last few days she has been a bit stiff again but was still getting up into the cat tree, using her litter tray and eating and walking fine
Yesterday she just went downhill late at night.

My heart is in my mouth and I’m so sad. She is eating today but I’ve had to help her back into her favourite hiding hole . She’s had water and used the litter tray. She’s let me brush her and cuddle her.
When I call her she responded and is purring occasionally plus her eyes are bright. I’m hoping against hope aren’t I?

I’m terrified this is a saddle thrombus / thrombosis

I’m so worried she will need to be PTS today when I take her.

Does anyone have any happy outcomes for this sort of thing. I’ve had her and her sister since they were 12 weeks old they have been my family before I had one of my own 😢

@stophuggingme

I hope your lack of updates doesn't mean bad news. Fingers still crossed.

Sadly our cat was PTS yesterday. After trying everything possible at home, the vet thought she has other underlying disease as well as heart failure. Best for her, but we didn't want her to go. Tears and tears and tears.

TheLongRider · 11/05/2020 16:28

Flowers I'm so sorry for your loss. Cats are fabulous creatures and you did your best by her.

stophuggingme · 11/05/2020 18:20

@Wolfff I am so very sorry to read such sad news. Sending you love.Flowers

My little old lady is hanging in there. She’s eaten two pouches of food today already and been to the litter tray which involves a ten metre walk and steps. She’s hopping now and trying her best to put weight on her back left leg but not happening yet
We are at the vets tomorrow when her painkillers run out for a review. She’s brighter and I’m not ready to have her PTS yet as she’s sufficiently engaged, physically independent and mobile etc but I don’t know what they will say. She’s always been a lazy little cat that just bimbles around she’s not much different from before. I have to hope but still very worried and wish there was more I could do

I'm so glad she is still hanging on in there and engaging with with normal life. I hope she continues to improve and good luck with the vet tomorrow.

Thank you for your condolences.

stophuggingme · 11/05/2020 20:06

Thank you @Wolfff
I hope you are as ok as can be expected

I will let you know how we get on tomorrow
She is a little fighter. We’ve been through an awful inevrcted womb, a spey gone wrong, dental abscesses and worried about her little lungs.
I love her so much and just want her to be ok. As long as I can see a bit of light inner eyes and her getting up and about we will fight on together

I’m so sorry Wolfff, you did what you could for her Flowers

Wolfff · 11/05/2020 22:47

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77

I can't remember the last time when I was so upset. I think it was because my cat's illness was very sudden and because she seemed healthy, I had assumed she would live another 10 years or so at least. We lost 3 close human relatives last year and I didn't feel so bereft - all were in distress at the end of unpleasant illnesses - so expected and more a release for them I guess

Rooting for OP's cat. Sounds like she really wants to carry on.

stophuggingme · 12/05/2020 10:44

Hope you re feeling ok today @Wolfff

We are at the vets at 6.20 this evening
She’s been up and about again and used the litter tray and steps.
I am very nervous and anxious about what the vets will say though.

Try not to worry @stophuggingme

Any good vet can see that she has the will to live and is doing well with your support.

Hope it goes well.

stophuggingme · 12/05/2020 19:01

Vets are pleased with her progress
Another well of painkillers and then another review

She is fighting on for now

That's god news. I hope she continues to improve.

Wolfff · 18/05/2020 09:27

How is she doing @stophuggingme?

stophuggingme · 18/05/2020 11:16

@Wolfff
Thanks for thinking of her
She’s still with us we are back at the vets tomorrow.
She has food and bad days but is still moving eating and using the litter tray.

She looks sad today though. Have had lots of lovely cuddles with her and gave her a nice brush and freshen up which she enjoyed. She feels a bit heavier.

I don’t know I feel sometimes as though she’s looking at me as if to say she’s had enough then the next minute she’s behind me in the kitchen purring and rubbing her head round my ankles the way she’s always done for some food and a fuss.

I feel so sad at the thought that she will not be there to do that. She’s such a character.

Will see what tomorrow brings.
Thank you
I hope you are doing ok Flowers

Oh @stophuggingme it's so difficult. I think as long as she has the will to live it is right to keep going. The vet will tell you if they think she is suffering. I hope she will let you know if she has had enough.

I am a lot better thank you. I am in the process of adopting an FIV+ boy cat. Totally different in looks and personality to my little girl.

stophuggingme · 19/05/2020 20:24

That’s great @Wolfff when do you bring him home? Do you have a name or better still a photo?Wink
Saw the vets today she’s doing well
Less painkillers now only smaller dose twice a day and steroid and anti inflammatory meds too.

So proud of my little furry warrior she’s a tough old bird

caringcarer · 19/05/2020 20:58

I have six cats and I know how upset I was when our old boy ford two years ago after having a stroke. He could not move his hind legs and kept falling over. He would not eat and my son took him to the vet and vet said he would not recover. My son decided to have him put down. My son was five when we got him as a kitten. He was very upset and we hurried him in garden in shrub border where he used to like to lie in the sun. My son got a kitten three months later.

Wolfff · 20/05/2020 07:12

@stophuggingme

Aw she is so beautiful. Such a cute but determined little face. It looks like she is thinking deeply about something.

Our new cat is being delivered today - no contact re-homing - a very efficient service.

Wolfff · 20/05/2020 07:15

New cat boy is called Colin but we may change it when we meet him.

Is this the end ?
nettie434 · 20/05/2020 13:58

Glad for you that your lovely cat is doing so well stophuggingme. Colin looks a fine cat too Wolfff. Hope he settles in quickly into his new home.

stophuggingme · 20/05/2020 21:56

@caringcarer yes they are parts of our family and very much loved aren’t they. I’ve had my heart in my mouth for three weeks now with little Dolly.

@Wolfff wow he’s gorgeous! Smile Reminds me a bit of Dolly’s sister the only other one of the litter. Those lovely eyes. How is he settling in and are you sticking with Colin?

@nettie434 thank you. She’s doing well today. Walking a lot more and I’ve had the head butts and budging for food which has been so wonderful. She’s been in the garden too and we had a lovely cuddle on my knee like a little baby.

Fingers crossed

stophuggingme · 24/05/2020 13:33

Dolly is doing well still and only having to give her one lot of pain relief. She’s eating well and using tray still as well as pottering sound the garden today and even attempting to catch a fly!
So I am hopeful. She is still definitely bother by her left hind leg but she looks so much happier.

@Wolfff how is Colin settling in? Is he still Colin? Smile

OP posts:
nettie434 · 24/05/2020 20:56

That's good news stophuggingme - glad Dolly is feeling better.
