I didn't like cats but then I turned into some kind of cat whisperer with my neighbours cats trailing after me and feral cats jumping in my lap
I have gone to the dark side and reserved a cat from cats protection Hmm
He's black and has FIV as well as being a flu carrier so he will be indoor cat. Obviously no sane person was going to take him. So yes, I'm off to buy half of the pet shop

Rescue lady said he eats them crushed up in his food but I thought I would just try with some chicken first. Works!

I think it's weird altogether, George. To delay gratification by eating the horrible thing first and then the toothsome item to leave a good taste in the mouth may be fine for humans but I wouldn't have said it's a cat thing particularly.

I don't think he's the most normal cat Hmm

For the pill thing alone, he should henceforth be known as Weird Ollie.

(I'll ignore the fact that that could be shortened to Wollie! Grin)

I might try and get it on video tomorrow if he obliges again!

Ahhhh the good (if a bit odd) boy. So good to take his tablets like that, and get in and out of the carrier. And he is sooooo beautiful too.

Those eyes! What a lovely cat. Glad to hear he's settling in so quickly. You truly have cat whisperin' skills

Be warned, unless you're very lucky, you'll likely get some bad behaviour come the weekend - a sort of testing boundaries thing. It won't mean anything and it won't be him 'showing his real character' - just some high spirits.

Oh joy! I'll look forward to that
Vet said he is roughly 3.5-4kg but didn't weigh him as he had gone back in his carrier

It's not inevitable. Smile Just be aware that in my experience, it might happen with a bonded cat - and he certainly has bonded - with his background.

If it did happen, you wouldn't need to think anything along the lines of 'So this is his real character starting to show' because it wouldn't be. Just hold firm to your rules and he would relax back into his feeling of security pretty quickly.

He's obviously been a house cat at some point, he doesn't try to get on the work tops or out the door, and he is v clean
He is however permanently attached to me if I sit down!

I take it you don't know his breeding? He almost sounds as if he's got some Oriental in him. That's fast and strong bonding and a half!

Not a clue. He's down as domestic short haired black cat Grin
He reminds me v much of stable cat who is part Siamese
Currently kneading my arm

What a lovely thread! I love it when people adopt those animals less likely to find their forever home.

You never can tell. The only home-kept non-neutered mature Siamese male I've ever known exhibited all the characteristics of the breed. (Only three things on his mind - fighting, feeding and fraternising (although not necessarily in that order at any particular time.)) His genes must have been very widely spread. Grin

Very content. He refused to eat his tablets today Confused so I had to disguise them in slightly warm tuna. My house smells lovely Hmm
