I seem to have acquired a cat

I didn't like cats but then I turned into some kind of cat whisperer with my neighbours cats trailing after me and feral cats jumping in my lap
I have gone to the dark side and reserved a cat from cats protection Hmm
He's black and has FIV as well as being a flu carrier so he will be indoor cat. Obviously no sane person was going to take him. So yes, I'm off to buy half of the pet shop

Thank you
He is eating his first raw food tonight. Apparently it can be tricky to get them off dry food and on raw. Nobody told him that Hmm

Refusing to eat his tablets is completely normal behaviour by the way. It was eating them that was weird! Wink

goodasitgets · 22/10/2015 22:33

He's killed a chicken wing and inhaled a piece of heart in about two seconds. Apparently the heart was nice because he's now crying for more

Don't let him have chicken bones... They're really dangerous...

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/10/2015 07:02

I thought raw ones were ok? I know ham bones are out.

cozietoesie · 23/10/2015 09:15

The non-organic/free range ones are a bit splintery for my liking, (I'm ignoring the tale of the disappearing chicken leg which I left lying around one evening - who knows but that it might still turn up somewhere. Seniorboy may not actually have thieved it.)

goodasitgets · 23/10/2015 10:15

Raw ones are ok - he did just crunch a bit on them then left the perfectly clean bone for me!

He's still looking v cute! Turkey mince was tonight's tea

He's a lovely boy - although he's looking very alert in that photo. How is his security level doing? Smile

goodasitgets · 23/10/2015 23:28

I was sat next to the fridge Wink
He cries at me if I haven't cuddled him enough and also is very obsessed with food - he batted my spoon out my hand earlier
Sleeping really well, on his cardboard scratching box in preference to any of the million cushions, fleeces or beds Confused

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 23/10/2015 23:37

Ah - that explains it. His food obsession may damp down as his feeling of security increases. (That's a 'may' there. Grin)

If he was a stray, poor lad may have become used to sleeping on the nearest bit of cardboard to avoid the cold ground - hence the scratching box. Have you thought of a heated pad for him eventually?

cozietoesie · 23/10/2015 23:40

(After my Siamese boys, it's difficult to grasp the notion of a cat who won't - within a short time of arrival - demand to know where his person's bed is and plonk himself on it with intent.)

goodasitgets · 23/10/2015 23:41

I have a heated throw Blush
It's a catnip box so don't know if that's why he likes it?
See photo for proof of comfy cat bed, leather chair. And cat, sat on a box

Ah Well - perhaps he's become used to a Spartan existence. Probably the best thing you could do for him now is to reinforce a house routine - including periods of ignoring. Perhaps I'm used to Siamese who take ritual to a whole new art form but cats do seem to love ordered living.

He looks great on his bed. Smile

goodasitgets · 24/10/2015 00:56

He does like my bed! He's banned at night though as he flings himself off every time I move or insists on sleeping on my back
I'm doing some ignoring, and some chatting back to him
Also ordered some window things from flat cats which are mesh so I can have the window open

cozietoesie · 24/10/2015 01:10

My own communication with cats is more through talking to them than stroking them. (Apart from bed cuddles which are a necessity in this household and have different rules entirely - ie none.) They seem to like it that way. The talking a lot, I mean. I never don't answer something they say even if it's only a 'Hmm' or an 'Ah hah....'. (I could Hmm at International Level I think......Grin)

I suspect you may have to rethink the bed thing if he's to be truly happy. It's when they fill up their 'love tanks' for living the next day - and also means that they have a nice secure and known place to snooze so that you can have some peace to get on with things/go out/do some work etc.

goodasitgets · 24/10/2015 01:26

I seem to be saying "what?!" a lot and yes and hmmm Grin
I don't sleep well (work shifts) and he is literally on and off the bed every time I move which wakes me up
In the mornings he usually seems to be asleep on a fleece on the sofa

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/10/2015 01:46

You're not quite used to each other yet. (Hardly surprising.) I can't actually sleep without a furry body curled into me and I think they're the same at night.

Talking of which, I'm getting the fish eye from Seniorboy. I think it's time for bed.........Wink

goodasitgets · 24/10/2015 02:06

He's asleep in my lap (as usual!)

He's gorgeous. Thanks for the pics Grin

Tiptops · 24/10/2015 20:19

Ah he's gorgeous! I love this thread - an admittance of disliking cats in the past and now this Grin

Just incase you didn't know, you need to add some things to a raw diet. I know taurine needs to be supplemented, not sure if anything else needs to be included too.

Enjoy him Smile

goodasitgets · 24/10/2015 20:35

He's still having some applaws until pay day so he's covered at the minute
Going to order some of the mince with the right ratio of offal/bone from raw to go, and kitty bloom supplement. That will be a sort of base diet then will add liver/kidney and heart/meat, basically whatever is on offer in the supermarket
I figure using the ready prepped mince means the ratio is all covered plus the supplement should be good for him

Penfold007 · 24/10/2015 20:46

Oh but he has Cattitude. He has fallen on all four paws and will soon have you whipped into shape.

goodasitgets · 24/10/2015 20:47

Very much attitude
Gave him a pouch - cries
Gave him applaws pate - cries
Give him Turkey mince, lovingly diced heart and chicken - silence Hmm

Yup. Your training is going nicely. Grin
