My great aunt had a dog called Mince. She said it was cause of the way he was walked. I absolutely didn’t get the “joke” as a child.

Roy, David, Nigel, Shaun, Mavis and Maurice (the elderly legend who urinated in a stranger's picnic basket in the park, much to the mortification of his owner)!

I always thought that John would be a good, solid name for a dog, and was delighted when I finally met one!

ColinVsCuthbert · 16/09/2025 19:35

Love Hippo. Going on the potato theme, how about Spud? Or you could really confuse the vets and everyone for life and call him/her Cat!

I have a Spud!

I met a little boy this summer who introduced his dog and said "he's called John because he looks like my uncle John". And then pointed at a man nearby who rolled his eyes and shrugged - i think he was secretly pleased to have a dog named after him 😀

Did he look like Uncle John?

I knew a Paddington. He really suited it, though I don't know his stance on marmalade sandwiches.
