Puppy changed mind 😭

After saving months for a £2000 Maltipoo I’m getting cold feet. Come here for different prospectives so please don’t hate me but tell me the truth, as I feel like a horrendous person..

Puppy is from a breeder, saw her at a week, lovely put deposit down. Very excited…
Puppy is 4 weeks old and still has the pinkest nose I have ever seen, I have googled the breed with pink noses and as shallow as I am it wasn’t something I really wanted and after saving month for a particular breed feeling a little upset. Mainly upset with my self that it bothers me.

I’m a previous dog owner last dog passed away earlier this year at 15. Dogs are fantastic and hard work, have a family and wanted like our previous dog to do everything together but worried about the amount of sun the dog will take before getting burned..

Im not fussed about liver colour, some pink etc. This is pig pink, dog is white too….

I know this is what you get for a cross breeds. I feel so many people have cross breeds and it’s not happened to them.
He is a beautiful put, but I’m concerned to get over the pig nose esp as his not cheap.

OP, the dog is currently 4 weeks old, so I take it the dog is still at the breeder?

You still have the perfect opportunity to back out without any harm done. If you are this uncertain, perhaps it's best to back out.

With regards to the pink nose, are you worried the dog is at risk of getting skin cancer?

Startrekkeruniverse · 20/10/2024 14:33

Imagine not wanting a dog because it’s got a pink nose. This is why I don’t like humans.

Do the dog a massive favour and don’t buy it. Also stop fucking paying breeders who are breeding animals purely for money.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 11:56

I do want a dog the look is just a massive difference by the nose colour 🤦🏼‍♀️.
@AutumnLeaves24 i can’t as have a 3 year old. None give when you have a little one, reason we stopped looking. Also needs to hyperallengic.

Be careful assuming this dog will be hypoallergenic. I have a dog allergy and I'm really allergic to poodles and poodle-crosses. I think the only thing make them 'hypo allergenic' is the fact they don't moult.

Weirdly, the only dog I've found I'm least allergic to, is greyhounds! I think because they don't have an undercoat. But they aren't officially hypoallergenic.

Hellskitchen24 · 20/10/2024 14:50

£2000 for a cross breed is wild. They saw you coming. How can they justify that price tag? It’s not like they’ve poured hours of blood sweat and tears into putting two random breeds together. I paid £900 for my German bred German Shepherd, multi generations health tested, bred to German standards (parents have to pass temperament tests, conformation tests, stamina tests, and be titled in IPG which is tracking, obedience and protection), bred from a sire that competed in IPG at national and international level.

Cancel the puppy and save your money. Focus on your children. If you have to get a dog then please support a responsible breeder not one that’s fuelling this mad cross breed trend. Most of these crosses are riddled with health and behavioural problems.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 14:16

@Megifer actually I have done lots and know about the breeds also I have read that the could should come in within 2 weeks and then fill out…
google says 4 months but the more you look the more you will see normally within 2 weeks some colour would appear.

Apologies, seemed like you hadn't researched given your post didn't say "I've researched and can see its very common" or similar.

Most of the reliable results I saw (vet and breeder forums etc) said it can take a few months, not weeks.

oakleaffy · 20/10/2024 14:56

QuizzicalJoan · 20/10/2024 14:04

I don’t think you’re being shallow OP! We definitely choose animals based on looks as well as other characteristics. Horses for one, but dogs too! This is normal.

Dont get this dog

It does sound like it looks a bit odd - but someone else will buy it and love it. Good to step out now as early as possible. Find another one. And credit to use for making a difficult decision especially when you’re raising three DC with disabilities.

Ps never heard of putting suncream on a dog - surely it would be cruel for their sense of smell?

No, it prevents skin cancer
A dog I saw had a white ear removed because of skin cancer. (U.K.)
animal sun blocks aren’t scented
i put it on the snout where it was snow white to prevent sunburn. ( a white stripe on face)

godmum56 · 20/10/2024 14:56

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, not as a breed or a crossbreed, not even as an individual dog. Its not actually the hair that triggers the allergy, its protein in the skin cells, saliva and even urine traces that trigger the allergy. You say you won't give the dog up but what would you do if it turned out that the dog did trigger an allergy in one of the family https://www.allergyuk.org/resources/pet-allergy-factsheet/

FactsNotFeelings · 20/10/2024 15:00

My dog has snow nose it was dark now pinker

Cherrysoup · 20/10/2024 15:00

Going against the grain here, but to me, details like the nose colour is important. When I lost my first dog-chosen for us by my more knowledgeable fil-I looked for what I liked ie a wide white strip up the head. I then picked up all the puppies (had pick of the litter, pretty much) that had the white stripe, dismissed the bitches and held onto the dogs. Then chose the cuddliest, never regretted my choice, total mummy’s boy.

My bil is picking up a puppy today, same breed. He originally chose the smallest in the litter with a solid head then changed his mind and decided he preferred the one he chose before being persuaded otherwise by his dc, there’s a white stripe. His first dog had a pink nose which eventually filled in, but another guy with the same breed also had the pink nose and it never filled in. Solid noses are breed standard. God knows how you’d put sunscreen on, surely they’d just lick it off? I used a UV flymask on the horse, of course, who I chose, amongst many other reasons, because he was exactly my type, big black and white cob, perfect for showing, where looks are important.

Naunet · 20/10/2024 15:03

I can’t get past 2k for a cross, these “breeders” are taking the absolute piss. I hope you get all of the dogs history, vet checks etc just like you’d get from a pedigree breeder if they’re charging pedigree prices?

MumonabikeE5 · 20/10/2024 15:05

If you don’t like the look of it, change your mind now.

half the enjoyment of having a dog is from what it looks like.
shallow or not it’s reasonable to be concerned about its appearance .

Absolutely bloody lutely. Thinking you might not give the dog a home after all because of the colour of its nose proves you should never own a pet again.

Lostinbrum · 20/10/2024 15:07

No responsible breeder should allow deposits that early. What if it's personality is completely the opposite to what you want. A decent breeder should assess who's on the wait list and the litter and match owners to puppies accordingly or not allow viewings until temperament becomes more apparent. I'd look at miniature poodles if you need hypoallergenic. They can have a teddy bear cut if that's what you orefer

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 20/10/2024 15:07

FrequentNameChanger2024 · 20/10/2024 11:30

Hardly shallow, loads of people choose their pets based on how pretty they think they are?

Well, that's shallow 😂

CinnamonJellyBeans · 20/10/2024 15:08

I think you're not connecting with the dog, as it's not the one for you, or you're not ready yet. You might find that once you meet her, you feel more of a connection. However, don't be afraid to say "no" to a puppy. It's not going to be owner-less for long.

If you loved your old dog for its personality and it was good with your children, you might want to stick to the same breed, or a breed that is known to have a similar temperament.

There's nothing wrong with being drawn to a particular breed because of its appearance, but with three children who all have additional needs, I think you need to pay special care to the temperament.

Also spend what you like: It's your money and your dog

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 15:09

@Cherrysoup thank you. Thing is I don’t want to get it wrong I don’t want to feel it’s wrong. Something feels wrong, and I know the dog is a big commitment. One that I wouldn’t just re home or give away. That’s why I’m over thinking this..

You can change your mind before you take delivery for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER - you are allowed.
As a breeder, I would prefer this now rather than further down the road. Tell the breeder asap x

If it feels wrong, pull out. My bil thought about it for days and decided he didn’t want the smallest in case of future issues (breeder of his litter sounds pretty fab, tho, I doubt the puppy would have been available had they had doubts). He’s just picked up the other one, sent a picture and is no doubt going to be in love.

grumpypedestrian · 20/10/2024 15:12

I know you’ve said you don’t have the dog yet, but please find out if the breeder is willing to take the puppy back. It’s a massive red flag if they don’t as shows they don’t care about the animal having a good home.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 15:14

@Lostinbrum I feel upset as your dead right, I’m missing the dogs personality. They go so fast but I would of rather seen the personality.
my old dog, every weekend we went to breeders house (wasn’t a breeder had a one of litter) and we went and played with her. Was the best. Although the breeder told us we had the crazy one, everytime we went she fell asleep on us or was really calm. Literally didn’t believe her, took her home and yes we had the crazy one 🤣🤣. Who just hid it until we took her 🤣

This. I can’t believe what I’m reading tbh.

Reminds me of someone who wanted a particular colour frenchie, travelled everywhere looking for the right colour. Eventually found one paying couple grand at least. Few months later rehoming it :(

HoppingPavlova · 20/10/2024 15:14

Im in a hot country and wouldn’t get a pet with a pink nose, but can’t see the UK would be any real problem (you think you are hot but you really really are not). My neighbour had a white cat with pink nose. Had to have both ears chopped off due to skin cancer in the tips and radioactive pellets shoved in its nose to try and control the cancer there. It had to be lathered with sunscreen. No different to the people though I guess, most of us who have been here our whole lives are riddled with skin cancers, I certainly get sliced and diced every year.

I was not ready for more, I was devastated at losing the older boy, but you fall in love, plus it’s never going to be the exact right time. The new ones take a piece of your heart just as the old one did.
