Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?

We haven't had our pup long, only 2 weeks, but I was just curious how many people actually allow their dog to sleep on the bed? Ours doesn't sleep on the bed but does sleep in our room. People say to me all the time "oh I know it's unhygienic but I let the dog sleep on the bed", which tells me they know it's frowned upon but do it anyway because they love their pups. So I was just wondering, do you let your pup sleep on the bed?

Mine sleeps in the bed with my 13yr old daughter. He is a chihuahua but still takes up plenty of space!

NeverThatSerious · 11/07/2023 22:42

One does, one doesn’t. The one who does is 10, and has been my boy through thick and thin, single teenager to married nearly-30year old. I’m not messing him up now by changing anything but if I could start again, as I have with the second dog who is only 2, I’d not allow it.

Trollfeet · 11/07/2023 22:42

Mine does, she tends to snuggle up to DH.

Hop27 · 11/07/2023 22:43

I have a staffy...we sleep in 'her bed' lol

clpsmum · 11/07/2023 22:43

No I don't even let her upstairs

Niftyswiftie · 11/07/2023 22:44

Definitely not. They don't go in bedrooms at all.

Once in a blue moon as a treat! Mainly a treat for DP Grin

Me too, though I prefer it to my husband.

DiscoBeat · 11/07/2023 22:45

Our dog is very much loved and cuddled but upstairs is out of bounds!

Clymene · 11/07/2023 22:47

Yes. They are pack animals and I am the pack.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 11/07/2023 22:47

Mine sleeps on the bed by my feet. He’s small so space isn’t an issue and I love having him there.

devildeepbluesea · 11/07/2023 22:47

Yes!! Dogs are the absolute best bedmates! Except for the bed hogging.

Seriously, sharing a bed with a dog has lots of positive wellbeing outcomes (unless you’re a clean freak). I love waking up to my doggo.

Swirlingdiscontent · 11/07/2023 22:48

No because I’m allergic, dh wanted a puppy for years and I’d said no, he said this particular breed was hypoallergenic and it’s not I’m still allergic!!!! We only got him a week ago and it’s been a week of puppy crying and squealing all night long in his crate and dh is furious with me. It’s a nightmare . He wants puppy with us at night and says I’m cruel and should take antihistamines and think of the poor baby who has just been separated from mum and siblings as I’m damaging him by crating him and not allowing him even on the sofa . I’ve begged dh to return him and he won’t

Whilst I don't like dogs on beds there has to be a caveat for a tiny one on his young owner's bed. 🥰

hollysmumma · 11/07/2023 22:50

Unfortunately yes, we gave in when she was a pup. Now she's a pest!
Love her to bits but I wish she'd stay in her own bed.

CosyFanTucci · 11/07/2023 22:51

Of course not. Dogs pick up ticks on every walk plus their paws get filthy and I don’t want all that in my bed! First dog was never allowed upstairs.

Nellieinthebarn · 11/07/2023 22:51

No, he is a massive German Shepherd and is continuously moulting. He does have his own bed in my room, but he mostly prefers to sleep on the floor.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 11/07/2023 22:52

@Swirlingdiscontent get your DH to sleep on the sofa with the pup in the crate. Leaving them to cry all night isn’t fair (and isn’t crate training…) but god definitely not have a 9 week old puppy on a bed, it’ll piss everywhere for a start.

Blondey2023 · 11/07/2023 22:53

Noooo I'm a clean freak and the thought of his little bum and paws, that have been god knows where, rubbing on our fresh sheets that we sleep in all night makes me shudder. He has his own bed and we have ours!

LemonLimeDivine · 11/07/2023 22:53

Yep. She has a cuddle when we go to bed then jumps off and sleeps on the floor. When we stir in the morning she jumps back up for cuddles. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

mycatsanutter · 11/07/2023 22:55

@Swirlingdiscontent the first few months are the worst , but you have really got to put a lot of work into training a dog and both really want it as well . Definitely not an untrained puppy on the bed though

MmmALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 11/07/2023 22:55

Every night, he's literally my little spoon. Haven't died or caught anything yet and have had dogs on the bed all my life. Him feeling loved and settled, is better than being a germophobe. Do what feels right for you. My dogs are bathed regularly and my bedding is cleaned regularly. Anyone who says their bed will stink maybe doesn't wash their covers often 😏 and probably should get their dogs groomed more often if they stink... My house is clean and I'm conscious of dog smells, just need to find the right balance of letting them have free rein while keeping on top of the housekeeping.

OzziePopPop · 11/07/2023 22:55

I’m not given a choice, madam is entitled! Her brother chooses not to, weirdly 😂

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?
RunningFromInsanity · 11/07/2023 22:56

Yes.
On the duvet not the sheet. Although he does sometimes sneak onto my pillow when I get up in the morning.

Costacoffeeplease · 11/07/2023 22:58

Yes, and under the duvet in winter.

This is what I suggested to him but he wants puppy in the bed with him to bond apparently. The other option is he moves to the spare room if that’s really how he wants to do things . I feel terrible about it , my eyes are almost swollen shut though and I’m itching , going to try a new tablet and see if that helps apparently it’s really good (behind with an f can’t remember the name but everyone raves about it for allergies it seems)
