This is what I couldn't understand, tiny paths through a forest . I've got marks ( on inspection) around my shins and calves .
I don't know.
Well I do know, it bloody hurt. Reckon the dog was fine though 🙄

When I take flo to the park to run I only let her off if I recognise the other dogs , otherwise I keep her on lead until I've spoken to the other owner. I also put her on lead near small children ( she stalks them like prey) and bike/scooter riders. In the fields behind us off lead unless I've seen the sheep are out in neighbouring fields. The woods today were deserted, apart from us, mad dog , another whippet and a shit load of mud

I had a lovely walk with BiteyDog because we are past the restricted lead walking so apart from being on the lead briefly to stop him jumping the ditches it was business as usual.

He cried with joy when he realised the ball was coming out as well. I love it when he is so happy and he bounces on all fours around me. The rest of the day he spent pestering me watching me weeding so he's had no sleep and is now crashed out on his bed Grin

Hope the bruises heal quickly drinkswine Sad

I did once get so pissed off I put SquirrelDog on his lead and took him over the road to the cat. Cat refused to back down. Stupid SquirrelDog just stood and looked at it. After about 5 minutes we went home, where he suddenly was all brave again. Hmm

Well we have had a bit of snow this morning and that coupled with Bella being clipped short on Thursday necessitated in "the coat" Picture here of her in stand off resolutely ignoring the sausage that I had with me to tempt her to walk in a coat. It took half an hour before she was walking happily in the coat this morning and two people sympathised with her as they obviously thought it was the snow she didn't like.

Snow here , and very wet. Dog wants a walk. Slave here not impressed but needs must before she explodes! She won't wear a coat and buckaroos until it comes off , then get tuts off fellow dog walkers for being cruelConfused so gearing ourselves up for a walk . Not grand due to the weather warning but dog doesn't care.
Some beautiful bruises today, sorry no fetish photos Wink

Awww flesh how cute Grin

drinkswine, BiteyDog won't wear any coat either.

We survived our walk but when they said there was a weather warning of wind they weren't kidding. Really hard to even walk in it and it was pot luck where the wind sent the ball Grin

I wonder what it is about coats? We have a variety, Bella hates them all. She was shivering this morning so it's not as if it wasn't needed either. It took half a sausage cut in tiny morsels in the first half hour as she stopped every half a metre Hmm wouldn't even move without a lead either! Will be a fun week if we get more snow as promised then.

How do you all bath your dogs? Our lovely Collie Springer is a bit pongey tonight...she doesn't like being bathed so looking for a new approach. Her Vet bed is in the wash, so I'd like her nice & clean too! (looks like she actually piddled on it!!!!Confused

I am mean, and hose him down in the garden, then towel off outside. Generally only his legs and any other bits with mud on them though. My friend takes hers in the shower with her, then blow-drys him!

BiteyDog goes to the groomers every 5-6 weeks and is clipped short for a spaniel.

When he is muddy I just shower his legs and belly with water. If he has rolled in something a bit stinky then I use puppy shampoo but I do have fox poo shampoo as a backup.

He doesn't like being bathed but he tolerates it as he always get a carrot or dentastix straight after.

Bella is groomed every six weeks but being tiny she gets plonked in the bath and showered off seemingly every day whilst it's wet and muddy. I only use shampoo though if she has rolled in something disgusting.

Dog is scared of water. I use a wet towel and baby wipes. But if really bad , I have to wait for back up to get her in the bath. Strip off into tshirt, get her lead on her. One of us holds her while the other washes. It's very distressing for her so not done often. Think this is from being kept outside tied to a trampoline in the rain. Angry

despondentatwork · 10/03/2019 21:19

Yep, scared of water here too. Used to take her into shower, but she almost went through the glass doors last time & completely freaked at the shower head. Can't do that again! Takes to her heels if she knows it bath time-usually done outside with DH now. He's away ATM, so have relented & let her lie on her clean bed after a generous squirt of dog perfume instead. Our small dog is so easy.. I just lift her up into the sink! Or into a filled up laundry basket!

Report
distantdog · 11/03/2019 08:43

I believe the squirt of perfume option is what was once known as a "French bath" - I have now discovered the least stress and mess method of cleaning Ddog is a bit of a, erm, "whore's bath" (i.e. wet cloth wash with dog shampoo soapy water).

She really doesn't mind it at all (runs away from the water spray now and getting her in the shower/bath is an absolute nightmare)! Also doesn't mind the towel dry (will not come near the hairdryer) but must looking into the towelling bathrobe Cocodog has.

Was worried dog was ill today and had ate something she shouldn't of done yesterday. Slept a lot yesterday and slept all night. Ate grass this morning and vomited , before I could inspect bloody birds ate it 🤢 poo normal.
Now she's bouncing round like a nutter, eating , drinking and lying in the sun.
Will keep an eye on her and vets if needed. On flipping speed dial with her 🙄
Anything I should watch out for?

steppemum · 11/03/2019 10:25

poor steppedog (springer spaniel) gets the hose down treatment, usually necessary after every walk, as he is always covered in mud.

One day he had rolled in something and it was so cold the hose was frozen, so I got a bucket of warm water and a plastic jug, wet, shampoo, rinse. He was in heaven - warm water!

Had to bath her. OMG . It's what you get for running through mud with a slobbering boxer dog and greyhounds. Had to carry her upstairs as she wouldn't come near me. After bath, she's running around the house barking at me. Dog hair everywhere. She's now in her bed sulking as she's all fluffy and nice smelling. The bathroom needs a team of professional cleaners in....

drinkswine how is she doing? Any more vomiting?

I think BiteyDog needs to realise how pampered he is as I always make sure the shower is a nice temperature for him Grin.

He is off his food a bit at the moment but no other symptoms. Had to encourage him to eat a carrot just now which he usually adores and apart from a few biscuits he hasn't eaten all day. Think I need to check his teeth but that isn't an easy job to do 😭

My husky (11 months) has been off her food for two days she is eating but not much.. she is having her first season so I don't know if that has anything to do with it... I'll try her with sardines at dinner time they are her favourite she is booked into vets tomorrow for her 12 month check up

ThatsNotIt gosh they are such a worry aren't they.

I tried to hand feed BiteyDog chicken this morning and he point blank refused to eat it. We are at training later and he always gets a dentastix afterwards. Now I will definitely know if something is wrong if he refuses that Grin

drinkswine so glad she's better.

ThatsNotIt hope your DH has no more trips scheduled otherwise it might get expensive Grin

Well BiteyDog ate all his training treats and a dentastix so I think we can determine he's just being super picky and doesn't fancy his normal food even when topped with chicken Hmm

Horrible weather here. Had to push dog out the door for a wee as she was so reluctant. She then sat with ears up, head tilted as I explained to her that if she thinks she's human, there's a toilet upstairs but she must remember to flush. Think she was dropped on her head at birth this one 🙄
