I get the stare, followed by the paw, followed by flopping on my keyboard Angry

Oh yes. I forgot the paw. That usually comes out when I’m trying to eat something.

Or I get the ‘I’m going to go and fetch something expensive and/or dangerous and run around with it in my mouth. What are you going to do about it?’

Report
steppemum · 28/02/2019 11:52

not the paw - the elbow nudge. (combined with puppy eyed look)

steppedog is actually rubbish at letting us know he wants anything, but he does this elbow nudge for about half an hour (OK, 2 hours) before dinner, and I just stroke him and he settles, and then does it again. Took me AGES to realise he was asking for something. Occasionally even letting out or a drink.

So, once I got it, he then gradually just started using it for attention Hmm

This is a favourite of BastardPup

He is feeling better, but it was bloody awful. Particularly the point where he started crapping red liquid. Antibiotics, an injection and £52 later he is perkier but hasn't pooed today...

That sounds horrid BunchOfBastards but glad he's on the mend.

BiteyDog did a lot of scratching his bed last night. I wonder if the start of exercising means he's a bit stiff. Really hoping it's not because he can't get comfy due to pain.

It's so hard to know with dogs sometimes isn't it. Hopefully it's not because of any pain poor thing.

Love the armpit surprise Grin

We have hit the stage of not moving on walks, she just sits there, especially if she has spotted a human.

She got ds's football boot so my house has been covered in the horrible black bits that the all weather pitches have Angry

BiteyShark · 01/03/2019 11:52

Mrsoh39 do you think she is scared of the human? Mine pulls my arm off as everyone keeps fussing him which means he keeps getting rewarded for lunging towards them Angry

Hmmm anyone have any ideas about this new behaviour? Last few weeks BiteyDog runs out of the room when I get his food bowel out. He will try and creep back in but if he sees we are looking at him he runs away again. If we avert our eyes and pretend we don't know he is there he will eventually creep in and start eating. Honestly I thought we would stop with the weird behaviour when he became an adult Confused

She wants fuss Bitey Grin

I'm sorry bitey but I did laugh reading that, he sounds such a great character {grin]

We are back from the field, I had to carry her pretty much the whole way there, luckily it's a 5 minute walk Hmm

Hello new thread and everyone.

Ddog has just been a total PITA. After a few weeks of glorious sunshine - it really has been amazing, like it has been in the UK but for much longer - it is snowing again today. The cold and wet was a bit of shock to the system after t-shirt weather but I dutifully put on all my snowgear to take her out. Was out for 10 minutes and she found a hole in the snow containing goodness knows what that has been covered for ages and now the top layer has melted she decided she had a good chance of finding something good down there. Eventually had to put her on the lead as she wouldn't come away from it. Got another 5 minutes along the walk and then she just stopped, turned around, and started heading for the hole again. She came back to her command "Here". Gave her a reward, we started on our way again. This happened twice. The third time she stopped at the command, looked at me, thought about it... and then ran back to the hole Angry By the time I got to her to put her lead on the snow was really pelting down so I took her home and her walk lasted a grand total of 30 minutes, 10 of which were spent with her digging into this bloody hole! I know the sort of consequences a child should get here but what do you do with a dog? Confused Her "consequence" is now only having had a 30-minute walk instead of her usual 90-minute minimum... but she's not going to understand that consequence is she?! Any advice...? DH is going to start going to training classes with her but we can't find any nearby, so he can't start until April.

Sorry by the way - had to get that off my chest and didn't RTFT first! Will go back and do so now... sorry to be me, me, me!

How heavy is she now Mrsoh39?

I can pick BiteyDog up but only just. So glad I didn't get a bigger dog the number of times I have had to lift him in and out of the car when he has been injured or ill.

I have curtailed walks in the past distant when BiteyDog was being a little shit for recall. I know they don't understand what you say but they can defintely pick up on your tone and body language. Interestingly he used to be much better the next time we went out as if he knew he had to be better behaved Grin.

Can you avoid that hole for a bit on your walks? Maybe there is something smelly and rotting at the bottom of it Grin

She is a lot heavier than she was, thankfully I can still pick her up but my back is feeling it.

She is being pretty sheepish and knows she is in trouble Bitey (though DH has made a big fuss of her which I'm fine with). I bet she is better behaved on tomorrow's walk. I just ate some baguette and cheese and didn't give her even a crumb and then she jumped up onto the "human side" of he sofa (i.e. not her side with her hairy blanket) which is her new favourite thing to do. Normally we have to coax her over to the other side, she takes her time, we reward with her with a treat... today I just looked at her and said "No" and she immediately shifted over to her blanket, no treat or coaxing required.

The little shit has been playing us for ages with her big brown "I don't understand" innocent eyes!! Angry

BiteyShark · 01/03/2019 19:05

BiteyDog plays us all the time but I am wise to it more than DH. He therefore saves his 'big brown eyes' for DH Hmm Grin

I took her out into the field for a wee and she was haring about in the fresh snow so I stayed out with her for bit and did some 'play' with her so feel less bad about her lack of exercise today. It was nothing like she usually gets but it was better than nothing. She is curled up against me now trying to be cute and lovely.... total player!

PestDog has surpassed himself for finding disgusting things to roll in. This time, a decomposing cat, recognisable only because it was wearing a collar 🤮

Found a volunteer from Harvey's Army to scan for a chip (nothing found) and take it to the vet for rescanning and disposal.

It's sad that a family will never know what happened to their cat because it wasn't microchipped.

Yuk at PestDog [boak]. Poor cat Sad.

We are going out in a bit. Allowed to do 25 mins off lead today. DH thought he saw a limp earlier but I haven't seen any and he does this funny skip across the baby gates which can look like a limp so unless I spot one I will still take him but maybe do more hunting than walking.

Oh PestdDog! I'd never heard of Harvey's Army before - good for you for taking the time to contact them. We are thinking that once the summer comes we are going to get a GPS tracker on Ddog - not cheap but she is so much bolder than she was when got her in August and she is chipped and tagged but if she sees a deer or something, or gets chased by a herd of cows, we might have no chance of finding her without it...

As predicted, she was good as gold on her walk today and is now snoozing off her romp in the fresh snow - some rolling but fortunately just in the snow and on-lead for 5 minutes each way past the hole... dread to think what's down there Confused

May I join in?
Flo has calmed down a lot thankfully, I got let down by the behaviourist but found some things on the net and you tube which have helped. She did play with a bottle of vegetable oil last week and had glossy paws and nose and shiny poo for a day or so. This week she's being a brilliant actress. Cut her pad chasing squirrels, vet cut the offending flap of pad off, doggie calpol. Any ways, walks on 4 legs at home, took her to the field , straight onto 3 legs so she could get treats and sympathy off the other dog walkers ! Comes home trotting on 4 legs and a smile on her face! Son comes home from work..... back on 3 legs! Little minx!

Ah ha drinks - they are such little players aren't they? Angry I'm so glad to read your story too about the vegetable oil - one of our family dogs (also a lab cross as we have now) nicked a large and full bottle of vegetable oil off the kitchen counter that we found (empty) down the bottom of the garden... DH thinks I'm being completely paranoid by not wanting to leave any bottles of oil around when we are out..!

Report
drinkswineoutofamug · 02/03/2019 18:18

Some prat left it on the kitchen side after me repeatedly saying not to leave anything out Angry it was everywhere, but the bottle was stood up in the dinning room, oily paw prints everywhere.
Since she's come home the house has never been clearer! Was just a bit pissed off with her today , half my fault though. New job. New uniform. Washed it. Put on bed folded to put away. Dog digs up bone from garden and sneaks it into the house. Need I say any more? Needless to say uniform on its second wash without even being worn!

I am about to leave SquirrelDog with my parents while I go out for dinner. They are not really ‘dog people’... (although they try very hard because he’s my dog).

He has been to a 2 hour training workshop and for a good couple of hours walk today. And an hour car journey. And not slept at all. Currently asleep on the sofa. Fingers crossed...
