Oh no keeping everything crossed here for Biteydog and keep calm and stay strong vibes for you. They are such a worry these dogs!

steppemum · 12/02/2019 08:51

thinking of you this morning Bitey, x

Honeyroar · 12/02/2019 09:23

Yes, fingers crossed Bitey.x

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 09:43

Clinically he is presenting better but still could be swelling or something more so waiting on a non urgent referral to see a neurologist as a second opinion. Can't feed him yet just in case they want to see him today rather than later in the week.

Mrsoh39 · 12/02/2019 09:57

Thanks steppemum will give that a go later when kids are home, did you have them on their lead and then let them go?
Oh no bitey poor thing, I hope bitey dog will be OK x

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 10:12

Non urgent is 5 days so scratch that we are going for an urgent referral. Waiting for phone call.

fleshmarketclose · 12/02/2019 10:48

Hoping you hear quickly xx

steppemum · 12/02/2019 10:53

Mrsoh39
we did it off lead in the garden, and then when we started walking him we let him off, let the dog run to the other person and held on to him, then let him run etc, so he was only off lead when he was doing the running to and from, to his name.

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 11:04

Seeing specialist tomorrow morning so BiteyDog has finally been fed.

Mrsoh39 we trained BiteyDog to come back to a whistle in the garden. The benefit of a whistle is that it removes the emotion out of your voice which they pick up on (good for when you are frustrated when they refuse to come back as a teenager as well as being audible over long distances). I have the acme ones as you can get the exact pitch again if you need to replace them.

Once he learnt in the garden we let him off in the forest as a puppy where he couldn't see far except us as we just ambled about and kept calling him back with the whistle and rewarding him. Worked perfectly until he became a stubborn teen Hmm

Eric became obsessed with one of the dc's caps so I used to take that with us, shout "hat!" and plonk it on my head. He would come back for the hat where treats were never foolproof. Even now he comes back if I shout hat, the cap and his interest waned long ago. Bella comes back for food but she is a gannet.
Glad Biteydog will be seen quickly, Bella is at the vets for her dental, I cried as I left her Blush the receptionist was sympathetic and says it happens all the time. I feel so lost without her here.

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 11:28

flesh that is the one thing I will never get used to and I have had to do it so many times. I really hate walking away and leaving them with the vet. Breaks my heart each time. Hopefully Bella will be back soon with lovely clean teeth Grin

fleshmarketclose · 12/02/2019 11:42

Expect her to come home with a few missing as well as some white ones Bitey, poor Bella. But the vet is so lovely and so gentle that I'm sure she will be fine.

Squirrel26 · 12/02/2019 12:56

Just been reading back as been away for a few days. Poor Biteydog! Hopefully just swelling. And hope Bella’s dentist experience has not been too traumatic!

I’ve been skiing (minus SquirrelDog!) there were quite a few locals snowshoeing up the mountain with their dogs. I thought of DistantDog. Smile

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 15:21

Hope you had a good holiday Squirrel. Did SquirrelDog miss you?

distantdog · 12/02/2019 16:56

I love this!

Oh Bitey, good luck for tomorrow, hope all is ok.

Hope you had a lovely holiday Squirrel - don't know where you were but the weather was a bit full on here the last couple of days so hope you got some good skiing in!

It was glorious today and we have friends visiting so DH and I have taken it in turns to ski with them whilst the other takes the dog out for a snowshoe walk and it was my turn to ski today. Lovely. It's going to be busy round here with the half term holidays but after that we are hoping she is going to be bold enough for us to take her out with our touring skis. If you don't ski, this means sticking some "skins" (traditionally used to be animal skin but they are synthetic these days) to the bottom of your skis so that you can "walk" (shuffle) up the mountain on them without sliding backwards. Then when you want to come down again you take the "skins" off and ski down as normal. We've encountered a few skiers doing this on our snowshoe walks and she's been a bit freaked out and barked at them as they've skied past, but she almost brought herself to chase a couple the other day and seemed more intrigued than scared so hoping she will be up for doing this in the spring as she absolutely loves running downhill and we are so slow in comparison... will be quite a shock for her when we are on skis!

fleshmarketclose · 12/02/2019 17:30

Poor Bella has lost fifteen teeth but she is as hardy as they come, positively skipped out of the vets after having eaten a third of a can of dog food which is a full meal Bella size. Snoozing now but not unhappy. She is such a sweetie they think she is great and thought I had done well managing to keep her weight gain to 200g after the spay and her earlier life where she wasn't always fed and was underweight. Pretty sure that is down to luck and long walks because Bella is like a dustbin and eats anything she can find.

BiteyShark · 12/02/2019 17:35

Awww that's so good flesh. I think sometimes we underestimate how painful bad teeth must be for them so maybe it feels so much better coupled with the drugs Grin

Distant I have visions of DDog going wtf as you overtake her on the way down with your skis Grin

steppemum · 12/02/2019 19:14

Ah that's lovely flesh. I bet her mouth felt better with the rotten ones out!

BiteyShark · 13/02/2019 05:47

BiteyDog is so much better today Grin. I think it's still going to be a slow recovery but the improvement is definitely good phew!

Need to phone the neuro place up when they open to see if they still want to see us as I don't want to waste their time. Bloody dog loves to scare me.

fleshmarketclose · 13/02/2019 08:11

Oh really glad Bitey is improving you must be so relieved. Bella slept all night without a murmur and didn't wet her bed either like the vet nurse warned she might. She looked at me like I'd gone mad when I covered the sofa with bin liners and towels before putting her cushion where she sleeps back on there last night though, obviously knew better than me or the nurse. Going for a short walk this morning and then back for food and painkillers, bought more wet food to cover the next few days as pretty sure wet kibble isn't going to be all that appetising to her.

BiteyShark · 13/02/2019 08:20

flesh it was such a relief to see him walking almost normally today. Spoke to vet surgery and we are still going in as a belt and braces thing just on the off chance he deteriorates later but so happy that he's improving.

Bella sounds like she has taken it all in her stride Grin

fleshmarketclose · 13/02/2019 09:36

Yes she is such a no nonsense dog, unlike Eric who came visiting and hid once he got a whiff of the vet smell Grin He is the biggest wuss on the planet and cries if you even turn onto the road the vets is on.

Honeyroar · 13/02/2019 15:21

Glad to hear they’re both doing well. Our youngest lab grabbed a dead mouse that a cat had left in the garden yesterday and swallowed it whole when he saw me coming. 😡. He had a really upset stomach this morning. Just as I’m off on another work trip and my elderly dad has to take over looking after them during the day. Hopefully he will be ok. He’s done it before, disgusting creature!

BiteyShark · 13/02/2019 15:26

Ewww that sounds yukky Honey. Not surprised his stomach is a bit off.

We are now on enforced rest and very slow return back to normal over the next month. He's already going a bit stroppy because he's bored so this is going to be a long 4 weeks.
