It's ok steppe I knew what you meant Grin.

They can't rule out disc injury but given his progress it isn't worth any tests atm. He was tender all down his neck and back on exam so he must have really whacked himself badly. I just wish he would learn from his mistakes but knowing him I won't hold my breath Hmm

Ah, good news for Bitey and Bella! Though slow rehab is not fun for humans who can understand it, let alone dogs who just look at you thinking.... why??? Sad

Hope your dad copes ok honey. Ddog was digging about in the snow today and the layer underneath was pink and there were tufts of fur around the patch - had to get the lead on her quick sharp as no idea what had been killed there but she probably would have wolfed it down too! She made up for it by finding some sort of poo to roll in in the forest... luckily for us it's frozen solid at the moment, so there was actually nothing on her coat or harness when she came bounding back!

I got DH to get those stuffed beef bones from the supermarket. Scraped all the inner food bits out and will stuff them with my own concoction of food which I am hoping will occupy him a bit today. We have to do little and often lead walking to start with which is going to be fun trying to stop him pulling and hurting himself.

I am suffering with a streaming cold as well. My nose is sore and I feel shit. Why did I have to get sick now with everything else going on Angry.

you know that post I put up a few days ago about my lovely obedient sweet natured, well trained dog?

well, I'm just re-reading it, to remind myself that it is occasionally true!

because it wasn't yesterday Oh no, that dog was on holiday

Haha steppe he was trying to get you to let your guard down Grin

We just went for a very short walk to the top of the road and back and he was noticeably limping again. The pavements must be a lot harder on him Sad

Hard to say if SquirrelDog missed me...when I picked him up there was a CAT in the vicinity, which distracted him, but then when we got home and the dog walker arrived so I could go to work, he didn’t want to go with her.

Apparently he fell in love with a German Shepard bitch who was also boarding who is ‘big, bossy and a bit tricky’. Punching above your weight a bit there, SquirrelDog. Hmm

Hope the four weeks pass quickly Bitey.
Hope remembering the good days helps Steppe.
Can I have recommendations for wet food please? I don't think Bella is going to manage kibble when she has recovered. Using Royal Canin from the vet currently but £3 a can is more than I want to pay long term. She's a tiny tog with missing teeth so nothing with big meaty chunks and nothing with a strong smell or she rolls in it rather than eating it Hmm

Get well wishes to Bitey and Bella.

BastardPup has a clean bill of health post-deknackering. We are leaving him for the first time next week - he will be going to the fabulous lady who does daycare for two nights while we are in London. I know he will be so well looked after but I am still very nervous.

flesh the encore cans are very nice , and small , but I think they are mainly beef so it depends what protein you want . We are feeding Forthglade wet at the moment and apart from the fish ones they don’t smell excessively . Our fussy hound likes them all except the beef and wild boar and as he’s fine with beef it must be wild boar that he doesn’t like . My sisters elderly terrier had 30 teeth out last year and she eats just fine . Hope biteydog gets well soon .

For wet I have fed Millie's wolfheart, forthglade, carnilove and webbox.

I have found forthglade to be pretty good quality/cost wise but I have to mix it up with other brands/flavours due to fussiness by Prince BiteyDog here Grin he would have me hand feeding him steak if he could get away with it

Report
BiteyShark · 14/02/2019 22:15

Just seen you said not smelly and no big chunks. Forthglade is defintely one to look at then as it comes in plastic trays and out of them all I would say the least smelly and typically smooth in texture and you can mash it up into whatever chunks you want in the bowel. I have also seen it sold individually in trays in some supermarkets but I typically order direct online.

Some flavours of Millie's is similar in texture but I would say far more smellier to my nose.

Carnilove can be very chunky so that rules that out.

Have only used webbox once and not for a while so can't remember.

Nature's Menu do a variety of different tins and pouches that might suit flesh. They’re not chunky and mush up really well. No idea if they’re smelly enough to encourage rolling but I think most of them actually smell quite nice Blush

laughing at rolling in the food instead of eating it!

you have to love what goes through their brains, just laughing at squirrle dog's CAT.

I think steppedogs walks are interspersed with

CAT .....SQUIRRELSQUIRRELSQUIRRELSQUIRREL......BIRD......BIRD .....BIRDBIRDBIRD..... fox poo!!!!!!!

my voice is just a vague noise in the background by comparison

How is everyone doing?

I am sooooo bored. I feel like it's me on house arrest not BiteyDog. DH has promised to take over this afternoon so I can do some boring things like wash my car and generally have a break from being stared at by a frustrated dog. I am trying to lose some excess weight and this isn't helping as I eat more when bored and I am moving about less as it keeps BiteyDog calmer Sad.

How are you doign Bitey?

It's all gone quiet on here, must be half term!

Steppedog not impressed, instead of dd2 out the door and steppedog off on his walk before 8:30, he has to wait for me to get my act together (and get off mn)
This morning he has given up and gone back to sleep!

SquirrelDog had a bit of a shock at the weekend, when my friends and their 3 children came to visit. Grin

I was a bit worried, because he can be a bit ‘excitable’ bitey and jumpy around new people, but he was pretty good. (Except for when he jumped up and stole half of the eldest’s fish and chips from his plate. Although this was decided to be just what happens when there’s a dog around and you don’t come and sit up at the table when asked. Grin )

steppe I had forgotten about half term. When I fancy a lie in I throw BiteyDog a biscuit and that's his clue that I am not getting up for a while Grin.

BiteyDog seems fine now. You really wouldn't have known anything has happened but I am sticking to the exercise plan as I don't want to tempt fate. He's very unhappy that his ball has disappeared from the house.

Hope SquirrelDog enjoyed his chippy dinner Grin

Yes half term is very busy for us, but still got to get DDog out for her walks, which is actually quite good because there's no way we would normally have the time or energy to get out at this time of the year.

The weather is absolutely glorious at the moment - plenty of snow on the ground for good skiing but really warm and sunny. Just snowshoed with Ddog through the forest and had to wrestle a slightly bloody jawbone with teeth away from her (we now always carry plastic bags in our backpack, not for poo collection - which is pointless in the forest - but for bone collection!!). In all the years we've lived here we have been largely oblivious to the red-in-tooth-and-claw nature around us - now we discover near daily reminders! And I took a little video of her rolling around in the snow, which she loves, for DH as she was having so much fun... only to get home and discover the lovely warm weather has defrosted some of the wild poos and it wasn't just snow she was rolling in...so just had to chase her round the place with the water spray and shampoo Angry

Squirrel - we have lots of children staying here at the moment and we finally introduced them to Ddog. The little girls all took a particular shine to her and although she is such a nervous ninny, were winning over with the highly nutritious snacks of leftover pizza edges. Finding it a bit weird being referred to as Ddog's "mummy" all the time though (by both the kids and their parents)! Do you all call yourselves "mum and dad" to your dogs?

Report
BiteyShark · 19/02/2019 14:33

distantdog The vets call me mum, the dog walker calls me mum and DH and I refer to each other when speaking to BiteyDog as mum and dad.

However, this is MN and you will be burned at the stake by lots of parents on here who get really, and I mean really wound up, by anyone referring to themselves as their pets mum which in real life would make me say it even more Grin

Mostly on the other topic boards. Some people get very irate if you mention them being like your child or you are their mum.

And you should hop onto some of the threads that descend into chaos where you get a whole thread taken up with arguments on the hierarchy of who you should save in a fire or drowning regarding strangers versus your pet.

I read them and depending on my level of wine intake don't know whether to laugh or cry at the level of anger some people show over it Grin

Pretty sure Ddog is getting rescued by DH before me after his reaction to discovering she and I had been walking in the company of wolves... Hmm

I don't think I've done it in front of someone else, but I'm sure I've called her "my lovely little baby" or some such when she has been snuggled in her bed and showing me her tummy for some tickling. The good thing about a dog, though, is you can also openly call them a little shit without feeling bad Grin
