Apologies I just noticed the thread was running out so I am going to repost.

do you think that steppedog doing a 2 hour walk late last night means I don't have to walk him today??

(not a chance)

BiteyShark · 02/02/2019 10:43

Haha steppedog is probably hoping for a repeat performance.

I am lucky that with daycare and everything else a day without a walk isn't a problem. Well I wrapped up warm and put a scarf around my face as the wind was very bracing despite the sun being out. BiteyDog seems to have cut his mouth because he spent most of the walk eating snow and leaving a bloody trail Sad

fleshmarketclose · 02/02/2019 12:03

We did our usual walk up on the trails which took half an hour longer than usual because of Bella's delight in the snow and her need to explore every bit of it at length. She came home with a pile wedged on her very short snout which made dd laugh. Hoping the long walk this morning means she will be content with a shorter walk later Hmm although I doubt it.

BiteyShark · 02/02/2019 13:54

There were a few places on the trails that had thawed and refroze and I nearly went over even with my boots on.

We are huddled up now in front of the fire Grin

steppemum · 02/02/2019 15:47

Oh, 2 1/2 hours out with kids sledging. Steppedog didn't exactly get a walk, he just ran round us in the woods for 2 1/2 hours. (this is after 2 walks in the snow yesterday, second one being over 2 hours)

haven't seen him since, I think he went and found ds bed (teenager, spends all day lying on his bed) and has gone to sleep.

Bad news is, kids were sledging with friends who have been here all afternoon playing. Dh is going to take them home, but they live other side of the woods, and roads are all very hilly, so he is not getting car out, but going to walk them home. 20 minutes walk for kids, 40 minutes walk for dh and steppedog. This might be one day when he DOESN'T want another walk!

steppemum · 02/02/2019 15:48

yesterday when the snow was new, the feathers on the back of steppedog's legs collected snow like a snowball does, and he had huge fluffy snow trousers on his legs! Was cute.

distantdog · 02/02/2019 16:34

I'm glad Ddog cannot read as she would be feeling very envious of the MN dogs right now! Managed to take her out for half an hour where DH punched his way through the snow in snowhoes to make a trail for us across the field (so creating another tunnel that was well over her head) and down to a quiet and cleared long driveway by the farm for a potter about, but she couldn't really run anywhere so she's obviously a bit miffed and confused as to what is going on!

The town hall posted some photos taken by the municipal snow clearers of two wolves wandering around in the snow at dawn - rare to see them there, so I think even the wild dogs are a bit baffled by the the enormous amounts that fell overnight Smile

BiteyShark · 03/02/2019 07:15

Just been out to clear up the poo and bloody hell its a bit nippy out there. Might have to go and find my balaclava for the walk later and ignore how stupid I will look for warmth.

Even BiteyDog didn't stay out for his usual mooch about after toileting Grin

BiteyShark · 03/02/2019 10:17

Well the walk was a disaster. The snow had frozen so much that within 5 minutes we noticed blood on the snow where BiteyDog was walking. The shards of frozen snow were so sharp he had cut himself. Came back and fortunately it looks like it had just grazed the side of his pad rather than slicing it thank god as couldn't face another 3 weeks of no walking

distantdog · 03/02/2019 11:01

Oh gosh Bitey - I noticed you said the other day he was leaving a bloody trail in the snow but you thought he'd cut his mouth... is all ok with him?

We did manage to get Ddog into her snowboots and out in them a while ago, but they are completely pointless when the snow is deep as it is here as there's no way they wouldn't fill with snow, no matter how tightly we did them up. Sounds like they would be ideal for what you are going through there but I know you said Bitey wouldn't tolerate the boots.

BiteyShark · 03/02/2019 11:10

He managed to cut his mouth again eating frozen snow but that should heal ok. We have washed and dried his paws and think we have got away with it this time as it just looks like a graze and it has stopped bleeding.

He has sliced his paws twice before on flint in the forest and it takes weeks to heal so we have dodged a bullet this time. Just playing with him in the garden now to make up for the curtailed walk.

We had to put on a boot when he sliced it open before and it was a real fight each time Sad. Fortunately rain is forecast tomorrow so all the snow should go Grin

distantdog · 04/02/2019 15:40

Hope Bitey is doing ok today?

Ddog has been very brave today. I have strained something in my shoulder so skipped out on the showshoe walk today (requires a lot of arm pole action when it's as deep as this) so she went off on her own with DH and even though he was having to stamp his way through waist deep snow (he is 2m tall) she carried on with him and didn't try to turn back, though she stuck very close behind him the whole time. He does proper full-on Tour de France style cycling in the summer and said today was the hardest thing he'd done... so I'm glad I skipped it!

Then it was a trip to the vets for a rabies vaccination and whilst we there she got weighed (had actually lost a bit so having to loosen the harness is definitely muscle not fat), got her toenails clipped because a couple of months of walking on show means they're not grinding down naturally, got her bum glands done (weren't bad but worth doing apparently)... and then a blood test which took AGES but we needed it done because if things go awry with B*** at the end of March, you need to wait 3 months after a blood test to be able to enter the UK and we'd like to take her back in the spring. So, all in all, a big day for her (with the inevitable car sickness on the way home - it's always in the same place once we get to the particularly twisty part of the road)....

She seems fine now and is snoozing on the sofa after a snack. DH and I are still recovering from €200 bill though Shock

BiteyShark · 04/02/2019 16:09

Sounds like quite an eventful day for DDog distant. I bet she sleeps well tonight Grin.

BiteyDog seems perfectly fine now so we avoided any major issues with his cuts and he has been tearing about at daycare. We have our first scentwork class tonight so wondering what he and I will make of that.

BiteyShark · 05/02/2019 18:20

I have a very tired dog. He's had a very tiring day at daycare following his scentwork class.

I wish he was braver but he isn't and spent a lot of the class being stressed. He didn't close down completely so that's a good point but it's going to be a slow process again of getting his confidence up that he starts to just focus on the class rather than being afraid.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 05/02/2019 20:46

BastardPup had his check up post op today and is doing fine. He's being a darling apart from chewing up gloves and shoes.

DH is away this weekend though and I do find solo dog parenting stressful. He will miss DH as well so hoping we can have lots of sofa cuddles

Honeyroar · 05/02/2019 20:53

I found a lovely new walk today. Not too far so the elderly, arthiritic dog doesn't seize up tonight and mostly on tracks so my allergic to grass dog dog doesn't itch all night, and long enough for my younger dog. Perfect.

Then we bumped into my vet with his lovely old labs, and my old dog decided to hump one of them while we were talking! 😱😳 Luckily he laughed.

BiteyShark · 06/02/2019 06:53

Almost there BunchOfBastards. When is the eta for being back to normal walking?

Honey fortunately I think vets have seen it all so take it in their stride Grin.

BiteyDog decided the noise of chucking empty egg shells in the bin meant the world was ending this morning. He really is getting stranger with noises Confused

Mrsoh39 · 07/02/2019 09:07

Hi can I join, got a border collie puppy on Friday, she's 9 weeks old today.
She seems to enjoy nibbling and growling at me, so I'm trying to distract her with other toys, she's currently asleep, she is doing really well at night time, peeing on the mat that is by the back door.

Typically I have had dd2 off school this week with an awful cold, so have been unable to offer the puppy proper 1 on 1 training.

Taking her for her 2nd jab a week on Monday, I can't wait to get her out and about, more for my sanity than anything else Grin

BiteyShark · 07/02/2019 09:10

Welcome Mrsoh39. She looks very cute Grin. Being tied to the house in those early weeks drove me up the wall as well.

Mrsoh39 · 07/02/2019 09:41

It wouldn't be so bad if she stopped the nipping, grabbing clothes, growling and barking at me because I'm trying to get her to stop Grin

Don't let the cuteness deceive you Grin

fleshmarketclose · 07/02/2019 09:50

Oh she is lovely but I don't envy your puppy days one bit.
I've booked Bella in for a dental as her breath is a bit whiffy, feel a bit bad she is having another anaesthetic but hopefully she will recover quickly and it won't be as bad as when she was spayed.

Mrsoh39 · 07/02/2019 09:58

Ah poor Bella, she'll be fine I'm sure, what sort of dog is she?

Yes I'm not sure what came over me in thinking about getting a puppy, our last dog died at 14 and a half, so have totally forgotten how difficult they can be.

suzymom · 07/02/2019 10:01

Mrsoh39, you have such a beautyful puppy. Thanks for sharing!

fleshmarketclose · 07/02/2019 10:21

Bella is a 9 year old Lhasa Apso rescue. She's a rescue because I really didn't enjoy Eric's puppy days (I share Eric with exh who he lives with) although he is a lovely dog now at 5. Bella has been here since June last year, she'd had a hard life, used for repeated breeding, but she has quickly become accustomed to a life of long walks regular food and being loved.

Mrsoh39 · 07/02/2019 11:49

She is very lucky to have you, we were looking at rehoming but youngest is 4 and was worried about what sort of dog we would get, will be a different story when she's older, terror puppy is asleep now, I can relax for 5 minutes Smile
