Morning.

Just setting this up before the old one fills up.

For anyone new, this is a cafe where you can come, eat (calorie free) drink and be merry.

There are kittenbees in the café, which are kittens the size of bees, they are friendly but do nibble the pastries.

Outside are their larger 'cousins' the Bumblecats, they are not as friendly.

Leo is a Lemur who now runs the outdoor dog wash.

Florence is a French pastry chef, Fernando is a cocktail waiter.

Outside is a water feature and a petting zoo.

Evening all, I keep getting swapped from earlys to lates I dont finish until 11pm and was asked to be in tomorrow at 7am . It takes me a average of 1.5 hrs to get to and from work . They can feck off !

Is Leo's emu egg cooked yet @sashh , we could slice a baguette lengthways to be long enough to make into soldiers.

sashh · 14/11/2024 03:22

Morning.

@ScottBakula that's brutal. I used to do on call, I was called in one time at 4.00am then worked a full day and then I was still on call so I finished at 11.00pm.

The emu egg needs a hammer to open it but I think it is ready. While you are on that I'm making ham and cheese on various breads Florence has made, so you can have them for breakfast or take as a pack up.

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket there is nothing quite like an old magazine is there?

Fernando is making some Bovril thing, I believe it tastes like Bovril with a bit of a kick.

Leo is currently washing quail's eggs, that should keep him busy for a while.

MinnieMountain · 14/11/2024 06:20

Morning all

Is there any onion bread? I think that will go well with ham and cheese.

I'm going to take some of Fernando’s Bovril thing to get me through DS’s rock and roll concert.

sashh · 14/11/2024 07:26

Of course there is onion bread

@sashh apparently because I don't have any DCs I should be able to manage shifts like this ! Last time I ended up quoting the law to them ( must have 11 hrs between shifts ) but apparently because I only did a 6 hr shift I should be able to cope . 6 hr shift or not , getting home at 12.30am and leaving again at 5.30am the same day is not happening.

They honestly can not of expected you to be able to do your job well and safely been on call that long and working all day.

>>>>> screams into cushion , collects myself and returns all calm <<<<

I will have a look round for a hammer and chisel, in the meantime can I have a ham snd cheese toastie , and bovril with a dash of tabasco in it.
I am going g to sit infront of the fire with one of @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket old Take a break magazine's. I will try to memorise the top tops section, they were always soooo useful 🙃.

sashh · 15/11/2024 05:48

Morning.

@ScottBakula You tell them, take no shit.

For a change lets head to Bulgaria.

Florence is making Mekitsa and Banika. I'll stick some 'princesses' in the oven, Fernando is serving Boza.

As per usual Leo is on the egg station.

I've left out yoghurt and berries, ask the kittenbees to fly some berries over to you.

Morning

Bulgaria sounds interesting, so yes please.

I’ll join @ScottBakula if you’ve not been called into work. I used to love my mum’s Take a Break magazines.

I agreed my redundancy terms yesterday. I’ve been busy tapping up contacts for jobs.

sashh · 15/11/2024 06:49

Morning @MinnieMountain are you optimistic about redundancy now?

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 15/11/2024 07:46

Honestly @sashh I’m relieved. The new company wasn’t nice to work for. My old boss who’s now a consultant at a firm has told me of a potential job. And I get paid my notice in lieu.

sashh · 15/11/2024 08:53

That sounds good @MinnieMountain I hope it goes well.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 16/11/2024 00:19

I love Bulgaria, I've only been once many years ago but the hotel staff went well above and beyond to sort out my DH health issues ( idiot forgot 'scrip med )
Then by pure chance a few days before the end of our hol we found a little smart cafe , the owner spent time with us to explain the meals and drinks and was happy to adapt our food to what we wanted ( more spice / no capers ) .
A wonderful country with a strong work / life ethic .

ScottBakula · 16/11/2024 00:34

@MinnieMountain , I was due to work 2pm midnight, got a msg at 7am , can I go to sites ( furthest from my home) at 10am as new line manager wants to see me .
Me - we have a new line manager ??
When did Emma leave?
Them 2 mnts ago .
Me- why wasn't I told? ( iv been emailing Emma for weeks didn't know why there was no reply)
Them- it doesn't matter now , just give Rob a tour of the sites .
Me - all if them ?
Them -Yes
Me- Can I have the cab company accout info ?
THEM - NO WAY ,
You pay you the cab and we will pay it back in 2 parts over next two months pay ( about £60)
Me - feck off , I will meet him at x site and he can find his own way onwards from there.

ScottBakula · 16/11/2024 01:07

I'm sorry I have been a real grouch on here recently.

Hands @MinnieMountain a Take a break and a kitkat.

@sashh can I be a pest and ask for a full English breakfast,

Bacon
Cumberland sausage
Beans
Black pudding
Tinned tomatoes
Poached eggs
Hash browns
Fried bread and
Toast.
With a large cup of very strong black coffee.
Hopefully that lot will put me in a better mood for the weekend

sashh · 16/11/2024 05:22

Morning.

@ScottBakula I think a full English is a good idea so I'll do that for everyone today, I will add options of bubble and squeak instead of hash browns, Lincolnshire sausages, mushrooms and Leo will will obviously make eggs on request.

Florence is making croissants and Fernando is making cherry based cocktails.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 16/11/2024 06:54

That’s okay @ScottBakula . Thanks for the kitkat.

Could I have Cumberland sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, beans, scrambled eggs, fried bread and bubble and squeak please?

I think the bumble cats need some attention, so I’m going to throw their ball for them.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 16/11/2024 11:19

Sorry about how crap people's work are. Expecting you to lay out for taxis and wait a month for a refund is awful @ScottBakula !
A full English sounds great.
Can I have bacon, tomatoes, infinite buttered toast, mushrooms and bubble and squeak please ? And a pot of tea.

sashh · 17/11/2024 05:30

Morning.

Yet another cold and wet day so I'm making porridge, burgoo and congee. Leo is making eggs whether you want them or not.
Florence is making sourdough loaves and Fernando has some alcoholic hot chocolate.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 17/11/2024 06:55

Morning

Porridge sounds just right. Could I have Cointreau in my hot chocolate please?

sashh · 18/11/2024 04:20

Morning.

Well IRL I have a cat curled up on my arm sleeping so I think breakfast has to be simple, I'll just make toast and you can pick toppings, bacon, beans, cheeses, tomatoes, avocado, Bovril or Nutella.

Leo is of course making eggs but has got some duck's eggs, if you have not had them they are similar to hen's but richer.

Florence is making apple cake and Fernando is making hot chocolate with Cointreau just for @MinnieMountain BTW how did meeting Rob at the sites go?

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 18/11/2024 06:18

Thank you for the special hot chocolate @sashh . Cat photo? Mine is curled up next to me.

Does anyone mind if I light a fire outside since it’s got cold? We can sit out under blankets and turn the fairy lights on.

sashh · 18/11/2024 08:06

She has gone out now, probably getting her second breakfast across the road.

The happy Place Café is still open as is @Tillly's dog wash.

Good morning all, it's been a cold few days in the Scott house , my prepayment gas meter has decided to stop working and despite hours on the phone to eon I still have no gas which means no heating , hot water or cooking .
It's times like this I really wish our cafe was real !
For my tea yesterday I had a pot noodle using my ( single cup ) coffee machine to heat the water . It was not a great success because the water wasn't really hot enough.

It's really frustrating because I have a load of homemade meals in the frezzer but no way to heat them .
I can take them to work and heat and eat them but nothing at home .

ScottBakula · 19/11/2024 05:42

It was me that had the site meetings with Rob , he seems genuinely keen to help us get things sorted out but has never dealt with our client ( we are subcontractors) and seems to think he can just change lots of things , some of which I know won't work for practical/ physically/ logistic reasons i have worked for this client for 13 years so i know them well enough to know what will and wont go..
Others, I know our client just won't allow / do.
One idea was to get new buffing machines ( which ideally we could do with ) but the are heavy and cumbersome pieces of equipment. But he recons it ok as we can just ask our client to help us carry it up and down the 2 flights stairs in the building that don't have lifts.
This would need to be done 3 or 4 times a day . It's a h&s nightmare !
Another idea was to get all stock delivered to one site then I distribute to the other 4 sites
1st we don't have space , just on toilet rolls alone we probably get through about 500/600 per month between the sites that is a LOT of space required.
We provide all the cleaning equipment and materials so that's just not practical.
2nd I don't drive and they won't pay for a taxi acount and there is no way I'm waiting 2 months to get my £ back .

sashh · 19/11/2024 06:25

Wow @ScottBakula you are having a crap time at the moment. Sorry about that. Having worked for the NHS I know well the 'new manager has ideas everyone else knows not to do/won't work' and they think existing staff are just not listening.

Can you rent a microwave? I know sometimes people will say, "Oh just buy a kettle" but if you don't have the means it can be impossible.

Well IRL it is snowing here, I was going to have a nedspedition but I think that is off.

Well it isn't very breakfasty but considering the weather I'm making soup, one cauliflower and leek and another oxtail.

Florence is making crusty rolls and Fernando is handing out sherry.

Leo? I'm not sure, he is out in the snow, with the bunblecats.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 19/11/2024 08:58

Thanks @sashh , work life would be so much easier if manager asked us what we thought would work before rushing head long into new plans, they are just going to make themselves look like idiots .

Home wise
I don't know if I can rent a microwave, i will look into it but they will have to deliver it too
My very nice nighbour has lent me her electrical kettle and said if my gas isnt sorted soon she will microwave me some of my food later.( it's a bit early for curry ! )
I have got a guy here at the moment doing a ( planed ) electrical safety check.

Eon have just phoned and said they can get someone to me in the next 6 hours .
Last night I was told they would be here between 8am and 10am . ARGH !

Ok rant over .
It snowed here overnight too and it looks like there is more to come.
A large bowl of oxtail doup and some crusty bead would be wonderful right now .
Leo is looking for empty tins , I think he is planning to use them as snowball targets.
