The trailer has just been released and I can’t wait!

It’s probably my favourite programme atm so it’s a shame it’s ending but I’d rather that than it getting repetitive and dragged out.

'One of the best hours of tv I have ever watched, hands down'

Couldn't agree more. Brilliantly structured, written and performed. Felt like I was right there with them. Still in shock

Perime · 10/04/2023 21:39

Sublime

AngelasEyelash · 10/04/2023 21:41

Wow, what an amazing hour of TV! Acting, writing, cinematography all absolutely superb! And breathe!

Roundlampshade · 10/04/2023 22:25

Jesse Armstrong wrote the episode and by golly it showed.

RaininginDarling · 10/04/2023 22:33

Bravo, Jesse! That was an extraordinary piece of television. It was always leading to this moment, and it did not disappoint.

Blondbombsite · 10/04/2023 22:33

I went into the episode with a pretty good idea of what was likely to happen but the headline spoiler didn’t do it justice at all. It was a masterclass in writing and acting. Fantastic.

I spent virtually the entire episode in denial! Anyone else?!

Yes

Very good but felt the same

EachandEveryone · 10/04/2023 22:56

Bloody brilliant. I haven’t moved.

Netaporter · 10/04/2023 23:02

Spoilers are now allowed as the episode has been broadcast so don’t read on if you haven’t yet watched it!

@Blondbombsite i also accidentally caught the same headline but as the episode started I thought it would be Connor who might commit suicide if Logan didn’t show up. Then I thought Logan was playing the kids as it wasn’t clear if Tom was telling the truth and we hadn’t seen Logan receiving treatment. But the whole first 35 mins! Wow. And Shiv’s reaction. Poor Connor that no one went to get him to say goodbye. Also loved that Roman was blaming his voicemail.

Online theories are that Kerry was shagging Logan in the loo and caused a heart attack or… (and you have to remember the storyline from a previous series) Karolina gives Logan the wrong dose of medicine deliberately on Geri’s orders knowing he couldn’t receive adequate medical assistance on the plane. (Karolina was previously blamed for giving Logan the wrong dose when she was in charge of his meds)

But the scene of all 3 of them hugging at the end was heartbreaking.

I think Geri will rise to the top as she knows where all the bodies are buried and Ken will emerge top dog with her. She won’t forgive Roman. And I think Kerry will emerge pregnant and maybe a significant inheritance in the Will.

EachandEveryone · 10/04/2023 23:18

I never had a clue what was coming, i must walk around with my eyes closed. I literally could feel my own heart pumping away. It was such a fantastic episode they were all brilliant. I dont know how it will end. Nice little earner for Brian Cox, I wonder what he thought about it going so early. I never heard any spoilers.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2023 23:23

He’s such a powerhouse of an actor

It won’t be the same without him in it

IClaudine · 10/04/2023 23:41

I managed to avoid all spoilers. What amazing writing and acting. I felt really emotional watching it, even though the characters are all so despicable.

I think Geri will rise to the top as she knows where all the bodies are buried and Ken will emerge top dog with her. She won’t forgive Roman. And I think Kerry will emerge pregnant and maybe a significant inheritance in the Will

Yes, good predictions there! Yhe sibling bonding we saw this episode will dissolve very fast and they will all be at each other's throats.

EachandEveryone · 10/04/2023 23:59

I hope hes left his bodyguard some money.

hamstersarse · 11/04/2023 00:09

Utterly brilliant episode
I was laughing so much at Tom and his little Greglets at the beginning, and really just expecting it to be about the siblings finding out Roman had done the dirty on them......certainly wasn't expecting that so early in the series.

The close up shock and confusion of grief was spectacular and the real-time aspect to the whole episode made it absolutely gripping. I just read how they basically filmed a 30 minute scene straight, uninterrupted - that is so unbelievably difficult and those actors are just incredible - all of them

I am so excited to see what happens next.....I have no predictions to offer of any kind because that episode is just sinking in !

PseudoBadger · 11/04/2023 05:22

DP was convinced this was a play by Logan; that he had somehow got everyone to agree to pretend (even down to CPR on a dummy) that he was dying to manipulate the kids. I told him that was ridiculous... but for a moment could just about believe that Logan would do something so outrageous.

tribpot · 11/04/2023 06:22

It was the most extraordinary hour of television I have ever seen. An absolutely remarkable achievement. I watched it yesterday morning and thought I knew from the trailer what to expect - Roman betrays Geri, the macabre spectacle of Connor and Willa's wedding, Shiv and Kendall finding out Roman was doing Logan's dirty work and the fracturing of the fragile alliance between them. The start of a showdown with Matsson.

I was utterly transfixed as the episode unfolded, and as soon as it finished, I watched it again. I watched it a third time last night. I can't think of anything I have watched three times in the same day, maybe an early episode of The West Wing?

I thought that Logan would be revived, that they'd get his heart going again, not least because it seemed so unlikely that you would let an actor of Brian Cox's stature go without a big scene for him, but that was why it worked - to show the brutality of death so well. I thought the siblings would have to face up to their feelings for their dad (and perhaps even he for them, although he's never denied loving them, just been an appalling monster).

Everything about the episode was perfection - Shiv telling Greg not to touch her and striding away from him, Geri's ice cold response to Roman when he clearly wanted a hug, Connor's weird obsession with the cake, Willa finding a way to be honest with Connor, Kerry's utter shock, the manoeuvring of the old guard to make sure their names were on the statement.

And of course The Moment - when the three siblings hugged each other after the press conference. Just breathtaking.

In terms of film-making, the Inside the Episode featurette is well worth watching

This is expanded on in the official podcast which also features a rather irascible interview with Brian Cox After shooting the boat scene in stages, they did indeed shoot it once all the way through, which was an immense technical challenge and must have really heightened the sense of panic for the actors.

In terms of what is to come, I think we can assume the mid-season trailer contains some misdirection although Carl's takedown of Tom is hilarious and we're hopefully going to see more of Geri. I desperately want the siblings not to end up at each other's throats again, even though this is by far the most likely outcome of Logan's actual failure - his failure to plan his succession properly. I hope that we will see the return of the impeccable Marcia at his funeral - didn't she negotiate an inheritance for her own son during her showdown with Logan last series? I wonder if Kerry will have inherited a large percentage of Logan's stock. Connor's mother has been mentioned in two episodes now - is she still alive??

An incredible, devastating achievement.

hopeishere · 11/04/2023 07:20

Amazing episode. The jittery grief and denial from them. And the little glimmers - Shiv complaining th ray didn't come and get her, poor Conor and Willa who was so sweet and honest. The references to "the kids". So good.

MarshaBradyo · 11/04/2023 07:44

Apparently an obituary was floating around Twitter when the US episode aired, I’m not on there but dh saw it

Tg he didn’t ruin it for me by saying anything. Plus we did well for all of us not to see it, or someone in mn posting on it

It’s weird he’s such a huge character I feel like the death is more powerful than most series

PuppyMonkey · 11/04/2023 07:52

I must admit, I also thought that at the end the medics would find a pulse and they’d rush him off to ER. Shiv announcing at the press conference he’d been pronounced dead on arrival was still such a shocker.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 11/04/2023 08:34

I'm so glad I didn't see any spoilers for this episode. It would have totally ruined it. I thought for a while that it must be an elaborate hoax, how can someone like Logan Roy just.. be gone! But that's life, no one, however rich and powerful, is invincible.

I'm glad we have to wait a week as it will tame me that long to process it all 😆

tribpot · 11/04/2023 08:56

Yes, it would definitely lose some of its impact if you could click and go straight on to the funeral - we can have that awful sense of build-up that the family will have to go through. In fact, as they are doing one episode = one day at the moment, I wonder if we still have a few episodes before they get to the actual funeral - and btw Kendall's line "we can do Reagan's with a few tweaks" was an absolute classic.

IClaudine · 11/04/2023 09:03

I wonder if Ewan will make an appearance?

tribpot · 11/04/2023 09:06

I wondered if Logan might have left his share of the company to Ewan, basically to piss him off.

SlipSlidinAway · 11/04/2023 09:11

I think the surprise factor enabled the viewers to really tap into what the kids were feeling. We shared their shock, their disbelief, their inability to accept that such a larger than life character had gone, their belief that someone could do something and it would all 'be okay'. Like others I kept thinking it was an elaborate hoax to teach the kids a lesson or that he'd rally right at the end.

So amazing in the age of the internet and spoilers to be taken completely off guard like this!
