The trailer has just been released and I can’t wait!

It’s probably my favourite programme atm so it’s a shame it’s ending but I’d rather that than it getting repetitive and dragged out.

Ooh the mid season trailer is up on twitter. Buckle up people, we’re in for a heck of a ride 😉

JaneFondue · 11/04/2023 09:31

OMG the mid season trailer. I hope the awesome Geri gets her own back.

I have to say it's so nice to see normal older women on screen, unBotoxed and without faces full of plastic.

Lottapianos · 11/04/2023 09:38

'I hope the awesome Geri gets her own back.

She's fab, isn't she? Super glam and gorgeous. I was just saying last week that there hasn't been nearly enough Geri in this series. Hope that's all about to change!

SmartHome · 11/04/2023 09:39

I feel sorry for Roman. He was bullied into that conversation with Geri and it almost made him sick (incredible acting by KC) - and now she is, rightly, going to make him pay for being spineless. But really he was conditione since birth.

Roundlampshade · 11/04/2023 09:52

But Roman did challenge Logan in that last voicemail message - and he knows that his last words to his father were “Are you a c…?” Way to heap guilt into guilt.

MayIDestroyYou · 11/04/2023 10:07

Oh, I do hope not! At least, not long term. I’m relying on the mid-season trailer clip being designed to deceive. Gerri must be well aware of the dynamic between Roman and his father. And Roman did, after all, stop Logan from firing her immediately after the unfortunate photo incident.

Loose family ends at the moment are:

Best beloved Grandpa Ewan

Connor’s mother

Evil Mother

Marcia

Kerry. She, and of course any of the women of childbearing age, could be pregnant. (I hope Shiv will be, eventually.) It’s … singular to think Logan had only two grandchildren. But I don’t suppose we’ll see any more fake or not-fake unknown children emerging?

Roundlampshade · 11/04/2023 10:17

Also, what happened to all the people on the boat at Connor’s wedding? There was a boatful but then there were only about 4 at the wedding ceremony itself?

I was wondering that!

MarkWithaC · 11/04/2023 10:50

btw Kendall's line "we can do Reagan's with a few tweaks" was an absolute classic.
Agreed. That made me howl with laughter Grin

re the boat, I assumed most people had gone off to follow the news about Logan/speak to their wealth managers/try to ring-fence their jobs etc.

I hope hes left his bodyguard some money.

you know, him standing on his own next to the car was one of the scenes that moved me the most.

he’s probably the person that spent most time with Logan and he was just standing there all alone with no one to turn to. He really looked heartbroken.

I despise Shiv the most and would be shocked if her and Ken are not at each other’s throats trying to gain leadership of the company, she’s so arrogant.

I mean, they all are arrogant but Roman is clearly very insecure (he really needed a hug from Geri, didn’t he?)and Ken is very vulnerable, whereas Shiv has never shown a different side (that I can recall).

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/04/2023 10:54

Oh I think I need to rewatch. I’ve not loved this series so far… I’m finding all the closed room plotting - “we’re going to do this, no we’re going to do that” and all the word repetition too much. Logan is the best character IMVHO. However I am absolutely in the minority, both at home and online! Definite rewatch needed.

Shiv had a conversation with her mother, I think at her mother's wedding in Italy, about what happened when she and Logan split up. My memory is hazy but I think she basically accused Shiv of just upping and leaving to go to NYC with him and abandoning her. Shiv pointed out that she was only a teenager at the time and her mother said something like, 'Oh, you knew what you were doing,' and Shiv looked so hurt and like a teenager again.
And I think in this episode, when she was flapping about what to say to Logan on the phone, and asking why the others didn't come to get her etc, plus trying to hold it together enough to do the press conference, she looked extremely vulnerable.
One of the many wonderful things about the acting is with all the siblings, whenever something happens that's to do with their parents' cruelty/conniving/carelessness, you can see in their faces and bearing the confused and unhappy children they all still really are.

SmartHome · 11/04/2023 11:02

But Geri doesn't know that unfortunately. It's fascinating, and I'm sure accurate, that despite the best education money can buy, they're all so inarticulate.

Lottapianos · 11/04/2023 11:09

'he’s probably the person that spent most time with Logan and he was just standing there all alone with no one to turn to. He really looked heartbroken.'

Yes, that was so sad. And of course no one seemed to have bothered to take him to one side and break the news gently 🙁

Did you mean Geri doesn't know Roman needed a hug?
I'm not sure. I think the probably realised and didn't care. He'd just told her she's fired; I know he was only doing his dad's dirty work, but I think that possibly makes Geri feel even more contempt for him – that he allows his dad to push him around so much.

tribpot · 11/04/2023 11:30

I did want to see - someone? Kerry? - going back to the house to break the news to the 'servants' (for want of a better term). Although of course they would have heard about it on the news already.

So amazing in the age of the internet and spoilers to be taken completely off guard like this!

@SlipSlidinAway Apparently Brian Cox had to keep turning up to set to make sure rumours didn't start - he was at his own funeral! And they filmed fake scenes with him to keep everyone guessing. It's still an amazing achievement to have kept it a secret, given as well as the crew and production team you had hundreds of extras at the wedding scene. Even if they didn't exactly know what was going on, they must have known something was up.

Also, what happened to all the people on the boat at Connor’s wedding?

Agree with @MarkWithaC most of them will have been business associates - and quite a few of them were 'embedded reporters' as Willa called them when she was either talking to the siblings or her mum. The wedding was intended as a publicity stunt for Connor's presidential campaign, hence why it was decked out like a rally rather than something more weddingy. (He's probably paid for it using campaign contributions). Once the main siblings had gone back to shore, the story went with them and the reporters will have wanted to get off (although it does mean Connor must have turned the boat around after the other siblings disembarked, unless that ferry came back and picked up nearly everyone else afterwards).

Shout out to Matthew McFadyen in this episode as well - he didn't have so much to do on screen (although he was on the phone for real all through the filming of the boat scene) but I think all of them on the plane did a fantastic job of conveying the horror of watching their boss die and then having to try to plan the next manoeuvres with his body not 10 feet away.

blahblahblahandblahsomemore · 11/04/2023 12:03

Tom etc dismissing Kerry was so well done. Her power has just gone... unless she is pregnant or he did change his will.

Also noticed again that Shiv was drinking water at the wedding - maybe she is too?

blahblahblahandblahsomemore · 11/04/2023 12:04

Also, I think Kieran Culkin deserves every award going. He's such an extraordinary actor.

No. I meant Geri doesnt know that Roman left tha message to his Dad complaining about being made to do that. Quoting desnt owrk properly on phones, sorry.

So it was a reply to this:

She’s mean but probably goes with the territory

Oh, I see.
She might have guessed that he was made to do it, though; as you say, she is aware of the dynamic.

tribpot · 11/04/2023 12:33

Roman actually says to her "Dad said it so .. you know, it's a message". Plus they all know orders like this come from Logan.

slamfightbrightlight · 11/04/2023 12:49

What did people make of Kerry’s reaction? Shock? Relief?

Agree about the shot of the bodyguard, especially as they had that scene in a previous episode of the two of them out together. Really touching.

And I thought the fact Connor and Willa ended up having an actually intimate wedding was rather sweet! I think Willa is the only honest character on the show sometimes.

As for the kids, I agree, give Culkin all the awards, he is absolutely incredible. The awkward consoling hugs, the facial expressions, the way vulnerability just comes off him in waves. Wow. He’s been my favourite all the way through even if I do utter a disappointed “oh Roman” at least twice an episode.

My own kids are heading out in a mo, so I think I’ll watch it again!

I’m quite glad Logan’s dead - the rest of the series playing our as kids vs Logan would potentially have felt a bit familiar - now we have everyone scheming and it’s going to be much more interesting.

What a bloody show.

blahblahblahandblahsomemore · 11/04/2023 13:01

Agreed re Willa and Con's wedding - I think she realised how awful things had always been for him on hearing about the 'loony cake'. He's really come on from being a total comedic character to having real depth this series.

Kerry I think was shock and then realisation that she's totally expendable now Logan is out of the picture.

Unless she’s pregnant…
