The trailer has just been released and I can’t wait!

It’s probably my favourite programme atm so it’s a shame it’s ending but I’d rather that than it getting repetitive and dragged out.

I thought it was well written and brilliantly acted as usual, but it also wasn't a favourite for me. I think part of the problem is knowing that this is the final season, and knowing therefore how much they have to cover, makes the endless wrangling over the GoJo deal a bit tedious. In earlier seasons, you would have expected Kendall to get away with his outrageous lies about Living+ possibly for months, and then get brought down by it when we'd all almost forgotten about it. This time it's dependent on Karl immediately looking at the numbers and going through with his threat to squeal, which given how badly he wants to get in his golden parachute seems a bit unlikely.

Tom and Shiv were deliciously dark even by their standards, but it didn't make sense that Shiv would find his explanation for betraying her plausible, even understandable. Tom wanted the money? Was Shiv going to become impoverished if he hadn't have betrayed her to Logan? Of course not.

It's always a shame not to have Connor and Willa in the episode, balancing out the business dealings. Or Kerry and Marcia.

It was good for Gerri to have a little more air time, though - always welcome.

escapingthecity · 02/05/2023 09:20

@tribpot got you, I had misremembered her conversation a couple of episodes ago. So she's probably about 15/16 weeks

escapingthecity · 02/05/2023 09:21

@PuppyMonkey yes! And the music being full on dark and dramatic convinced me something was about to happen

I agree Jeremy Strong was just fantastic in that episode. I am also enjoying Karl not holding back now Logan has gone.

Living+ sounds like an aloe-based MLM though.

LOVED Karl

LadyWhineglass · 02/05/2023 09:44

Tom backed Logan and betrayed the kids because he had already told Kendal that Logan never gets f*d, ie he always wins. And Tom is driven by money and will sacrifice everything for a nice watch.

There must be something significant about water and Kendal, ie the car accident, the swimming pool sequence, now the ocean swimming…

I think Shiv is upset because she desperately wants to tell Tom about the pregnancy and she also wants him back. But in her head he has to come back for her, as she knows he would come back for the baby and that isn’t good enough for her.

MarshaBradyo · 02/05/2023 09:48

I know Tom did the betrayal thing but Shiv had that affair before that, I get she’s the one leading it all but it doesn’t seem to feature much

More about her upset

I like Tom as an actor, his face looks vulnerable with Shiv

hopeishere · 02/05/2023 10:29

I think of the water as being reborn.

I'm finding the Shiv / Tom stuff a bit tedious.

IClaudine · 02/05/2023 10:38

Not my favourite episode but there were some good bits. I do think the drowned waiter is going to come into play at some point.

As an aside, Shiv looked really beautiful in this episode.

tribpot · 02/05/2023 10:41

Yes, I wonder if Kendall thinks he's safe from the story of the waiter coming out now that Logan is dead, but Shiv and Roman both know the story.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/05/2023 11:00

Do we think it’s going to all be satisfactorily covered in just 4 more episodes? It’s a big ask.

MayIDestroyYou · 02/05/2023 11:07

I do, @Mydoghealsmyheart - the writers have more than earned my trust!

Blondbombsite · 02/05/2023 11:25

I loved that episode and thinking the quality stays the same for the rest then it will be my favourite series- definitely going out on a high!

I don’t think all the little things that some people would want addressed will be (Connor’s mum, Roman’s abuse/sexuality, what happened with Rose etc) but I do think that we’ll see a proper solution to to GoJo and Pearce deals, the death of the waiter will return and Tom will know about Shiv’s pregnancy (I think that was just an alarm on her phone rather than a call).

I think we’ll see who succeeds in terms of power but I think that will be much less significant than who succeeds in turning into Logan. Jessie Armstrong’s endings to his other programmes (Peep Show, The Thick of It) have been quite downbeat and had a theme of the cycle continuing so I think we’ll probably have that in Succession too.

Yup … The characters don’t know it’s the end of the final season, so I don’t think we should expect a resolution to every life issue they have - just an indication of where succeeding to their father’s estate is taking them, individually and maybe collectively.

MayIDestroyYou · 02/05/2023 11:41

The characters don’t know

Unless they do … Shock The playwriting impulse is strong amongst the writers - maybe they’ll really, really need to break our TV screens?

Imagine if in the final episode they all turn to us and relate what becomes of them in their futures? ShockShock

Or excoriate us for our passive indulgence of all the greed and venality we’ve given so much time to? ShockShockShock

tribpot · 02/05/2023 11:43

We have some big set-pieces still to get through as well - election night and the funeral. It will be very interesting to see where the writers take the show on election night, given Fox News has just had to settle for hundreds of millions of dollars for accusing Dominion of tampering with voting machines. And that Fox allowed its commentators to maintain the fiction of the election having been stolen long after the news side had called it for Biden. The incestuous relationship with Mencken is already highly problematic, and I think it's a shame we won't be having a whole series of episodes portraying the days after the election.

user1471543094 · 02/05/2023 11:58

Not my fav episode either and I am not sure why exactly. Like someone else said - maybe its because we are running out of time and there is just so much to cover.
Although I always feel like I miss so much when watching an episode that sometimes only when reading other people's analysis can I fully understand some things. And I need to watch every episode twice.

My DH thinks Shiv is playing a blinder by getting in with Mattson, but I can't see how Mattson isn't just using her and how this will come back and bite her eventually in some way.

At this stage I want Gerri and Karl to win. "The Kids" are certainly not covering themselves in any glory.

hopeishere · 02/05/2023 12:27

I totally think Shiv is being played by Mattson!!

tribpot · 02/05/2023 12:35

Agreed, I think Shiv thinks Matsson will put her in charge of the Waystar part of GoJo post-deal, whereas surely he has any number of tech bros in line for that. The Kill List is surely just a red herring - I'd expect him to be gutting the place.

MayIDestroyYou · 02/05/2023 12:47

Tbh it would be highly unsatisfactory if Waystar Royco goes out of the possession of Roys. So I’m still holding out for the sale to fall through, somehow.

Is there still time for all the ex-Wags to take a final bow?

On another note - love these Met Gala photos!

Alexander Skarsgård looks rather tamely dressed compared to many of the male celebrities there last night!

hopeishere · 02/05/2023 13:05

Both very handsome!! Jeremy looks miles better grey.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 02/05/2023 13:06

Still finding this series a bit emperor’s new clothes at times 😬. The Tom/Shiv stuff is so odd and even if she’s only 15/16 weeks I think he would notice a difference in her body especially clothes off!
I like Gerri/Carl - they clearly have zero respect for “the kids” so Roman had to nip that in the bud (firing unnecessary) in order to have any credibility as a CEO.
But some of it I’m just finding to be a succession of quick fire words 🫤.
Really hoping the last 4 episodes pick up but aware I’m in a minority!

XelaM · 02/05/2023 13:36

But all the kids are utterly inept morons (Shiv is the smartest of kids but even she is not as smart as she thinks she is and can be easily played). None of them are up to the task.

tribpot · 02/05/2023 16:52

I think I agree with those rankings. Article worth reading for the quotes from the show alone!
