Sorry for the delay - internet went down just as I clicked create conversation....

OP posts:
KayHarker · 25/07/2008 21:05

Rusty, yeah, but that's not taking into account the shatterfrying. You can get a 50% increase if you do it right, plus a nice marbling effect on the finished product

Gizmo, I have indeed. Very good source for that one, who called the two Doctors thing perfectly. Lots of girly excitement about John Simm too. And I'm under the impression that it could involve a dash of nobility, too. But it's all at the finicky stage really, so nothing is ever cast iron right now.

Gizmo · 25/07/2008 21:22

Depending on what he is cast as (ie how far his character is required to divert from SHOUTING AND MANLY WRESTLING) he could be rather good. An alien general of some sort...he'd make a splendid Sontaran...

RustyBear · 25/07/2008 21:29

Brian Blessed is much more than shouting & wrestling - have you never seen him as Augustus in I, Claudius?
His death bed scene was amazing - he just lay there with his eyes open listening to Livia's long speech justifying all her murders & at the end of it he was dead - it was very creepy...

Gizmo · 25/07/2008 21:49

Sure, I know he has talent. I'm just a bit suspicious, based on his form post I, Claudius. Will be quite happy to eat my hat when he turns out to be excellent

PortAndLemon · 25/07/2008 22:09

I've seen him as Augustus, but not seen him do anything remotely approaching that in quality since (doesn't mean he hasn't, but I'm not aware of it). He does appear to have devoted the last few years to turning into a parody of himself, and I'm unconvinced that RTD / whoever's directing has the will or the ability to reverse that trend. But self-parodying Brian Blessed could work, in the right context.

RustyBear · 25/07/2008 22:12

Well, his past form in DW was pretty shouty iirc, but he did end up marrying a Companion. Is the rumour that Yrcanos is coming back (and if so, what about Peri?)or is it going to be a completely different character

KayHarker · 25/07/2008 22:36

I'm drunk, have no sensible input, sorry.

But he was great in I Clav divs, and with the right script and good director who knows how to channel all that bombast, I'm 100% confident it will be fine.

JackieNo · 25/07/2008 23:15

'FRESH HORSES'.

serenity · 26/07/2008 00:40

Talking of DT, couldn't resist this

JackieNo · 26/07/2008 10:56

Lol serenity.

KayHarker · 26/07/2008 18:00

lol, that picture has needed a new URL for ages - I approve!

I actually didn't buy the DWM today. I read a few articles while I was in the magazine section today, but the interview with Richard Dawkins put me right off. It wouldn't normally, I've actually enjoyed reading stuff from him before, and he's a charming, clever man. He just made this spiteful little comment about how he hopes believers 'don't get any comfort' from watching Doctor Who. Just struck me as an unpleasant thing, in a magazine for fans, to say that he hoped one section of the fandom didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else.

Shame really, even other bits of the same interview were interesting. Somewhat ironic, too, given how many 'trendy vicar' types are using instances from the new series as sermon illustrations

And Gridlock can quite easily be read in an atheist or a theist way.

Katisha · 26/07/2008 18:27

THere's going to be a new mini-episode at the Prom tomorrow!!
I think you can watch it online simultaneously?

KatyMac · 26/07/2008 20:04

Is "squee" a mumsnet-ish? It appeared on the clone Dr blog....& it made me uspicious

serenity · 26/07/2008 21:58

No, squee is a general fangirl/internet term, not a mumsnet-ism

KatyMac · 26/07/2008 22:17

Oh, never mind (it was a nice idea)

SesQal · 27/07/2008 02:05

wow!!! I've just got home from seeing Hamlet. We were in the 4th row right by the aisle. V v good. Did feel a bit like DT playing John Smith playing Hamlet and dagger reminded me of how he holds sonic screwdriver! Hope that hasn't spoilt it for anyone still to go... Don't think it should have...

RTKangaMummy · 27/07/2008 11:50

WATCH THIS IT IS THE SPECIAL FI, DT MADE FOR THE PROMS CONCERT TODAY

UnquietDad · 27/07/2008 12:03

What's the BRIAN BLESSED rumour? (Sorry, his name just demands to be written in capitals.) He's been rumoured as a new Doctor on and off since 1985!

sallyforth · 27/07/2008 15:31

yay! I watched the Proms mini episode!!
Anyone know if the audience cheered when the Doctor said "reverse the polarity"??

Cappuccino · 27/07/2008 16:08

PROMS MINI WHAT?

PROMS MINI WHAT?

RTKangaMummy · 27/07/2008 17:41

heere is the thread with links to video

Katisha · 27/07/2008 17:57

Well it was a really good concert. Special appearences from daleks, Davros, cybermen, judoon, sontarans, a graske, some ood. Humans included Donna, Martha, Mickey and Jackie. The Red Dalek mysteriously appeared on the steps outside the hall in the interval - not sure if anytihng else happened outside, although we did pass RTD being interviewed as we left.

The mini-episode worked well with the people in the hall and manuscript sheets shooting out into the orchestra from the doctor onscreen so that he could conduct his symphony...

I kept hoping against hope that DT would indeed show up, but no...

TinkerBellesMum · 27/07/2008 23:31

Part 1 from BBC R3
Part 2

Was it not shown on the BBC?

JackieNo · 28/07/2008 08:43

Grr - had no internet connection for most of yesterday, so missed this. Thanks for the links, RTKangamummy and TinkerBellesMum - was able to get a good sense of the mini episode from that.

Cappuccino · 28/07/2008 11:29

well we viewed the mini episode alone, and it's probb fair enough to say that it was a bit tedious out of context

however last night was our fist night of rewatching the first RTD series

forget Tennant! good grief but Eccleston is sexy!

I mean I know he has been on some stuff where he has decided to have a side parting and look vile as hell but not here

those teeth lord have mercy
