I wanna know if 10.2 is going to live a normal life only ever being refered to as "The Doctor" or if he will adopt "John Smith" full time or think of another name.

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 11:13

I'm going to have him as the Doctor still - perhaps Doctor Noble for official purposes, because I think it'd be a nice touch to reference her, and I have an inkling that 10.2 would know that she wouldn't have survived.

I so don't think he'd use John Smith, and I don't think Rose would want him to. Changing his name sort of implies he isn't the Doctor, and I think they go to great lengths to underline that he is - he's just got a few new quirks, like any regeneration would.

TwoFir · 08/07/2008 11:22

If he is going to be Dr Noble then he will need to do a degree cos he hasnt got his magic paper to wave in front of people

MegReally · 08/07/2008 11:23

but he might want to be John Smith because he gets to live the adventure of normal life, which he said he couldn't do during the last Bad Wolf Bay fiasco. It only just struck me last night that he had dumped them in the middle of Norway and wouldn't you just be a little irritated by that?

TennantbellesMum · 08/07/2008 11:27

He's not going to be able to (for example) get a bank account in the name of "The Doctor" or any of the other normal day to day things. Doctor is fine when he's at Torchwood or with the Tyler's, but he can't live a normal life with it.

Gizmo · 08/07/2008 11:29

Woah Kay! Just read your last linked story.

It's safe to say it may have set back my recovery a little.

MegReally · 08/07/2008 11:30

I hate being at work. I want to read the story.

Gizmo · 08/07/2008 11:33

I just did Meg . My impatience was punished when my delicious reverie was interrupted by a colleague wanting to know if I had received a quote for a web application we need for an exhibition. Honestly, how rude are some people!

MegReally · 08/07/2008 11:38

just a question, which may be a bit rude as a newbie geek, but what are we going to do now as a group? can we watch other stuff? can we have a Project For the Autumn?

Gizmo · 08/07/2008 11:47

That's a good idea, Meg, although I may not be around - I'm rather sporadic in my mumsnetting, depending on how busy I am in RL, and the autumn is looking very busy - aaaaanyhoooo, despite all that, I wonder if Aitch is up for recommending something: does it have to be sci fi, do you think?

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 11:57

Just continue to blether in the thread, MegReally, it's what I do there's always gossip and spoilery info flying about (like the names someone has confirmed are on the new Torchwood scripts...)

Sorry about that Gizmo I'm still quite fond of that story myself. Don't go in for an angsty Ten very much, but when it works, it's good [up against the TARDIS happy]

WRT his name - he's not going to have the slightest problem getting credentials, it's one of Torchwood's specialities to re-orientate 'visitors'. He'd just be called 'Doctor', and those close would know that was his name, and others would just assume it was a title, just like always.

He wants to to life the normal life stuff (although, I'm pretty convinced a)it's not going to be that normal, and b) he would get a bad case of wanderlust eventually and drag Rose off around the world/universe again (and she'll be fine with that).)

But normal life doesn't change that he's still 'Doctor'. I keep reading fic where he's been made entirely human, so it's Rose snogging David Tennant, which, while an extremely nice thought to have, isn't what the show gave us.

He's the Doctor with a human lifespan. Simple as.

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 11:58

I don't think about this in too much detail, me. Oh no.

Elffriend · 08/07/2008 12:51

As a minor point of annoyance with the Bad Wolf Bay thing (which I actually think they played very well for such an impossible, poignant and tragic situation) WHY did Rose not push the Doctor much harder to take her with him/answer the bloody question etc. I understand totally why the Doctor could not answer but she should have put up much more of a fight IMO. (This may be partly linked to the fact that I would have just chained myself to his leg - and I can't bear how lonely and heartbroken he looked). Don't get me wrong, if I could not have the real deal I would be pretty happy with Mark II but...

Elffriend · 08/07/2008 12:56

Actually, I needed much more of a dialogue between them both - they both should have fought FGS - after all that effort of coming together again. (Kay - need a re-write please! with snogs!!!)

beansprout · 08/07/2008 13:05

Ah yes, DT in the mini-mart. Sigh.

And their first date in the tranny club - they keep stealing glances at each other. Double sigh.

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 13:16

Elffriend, I'll give it a go - I'm actually child-free this afternoon, and much more up for the porn fic which is coming on nicely.

beansprout · 08/07/2008 13:17

sigh

Elffriend · 08/07/2008 13:24

Ta Kay! In my head, that whole beach scene could have lasted another hour long episode (on much later at night) - much more anger and angst and desperation from them both (well, all three given that Doctor 2 was clearly able to express things Doctor 1 could not) - even if the final outcome had to be the same.

Gizmo · 08/07/2008 13:42

Oh bloody hell beansprout, I could watch that clip again and again.

At least until my flippant defense filters kick in and DT starts to remind me of this

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 13:48

I so agree, it was too rushed and 'pat', which is why I did that little added scene between the two Doctors. But they were never going to be to cram more in to that actual episode. Sods. Cut out Gita getting vapourized and give me extended angst!

Anyway, on the youtube link, there was this. It's kind of, you know, good.

MegReally · 08/07/2008 14:45

well that's just bloody typical, my daughter's computer is so slow it won't download the bloody porn. What the hell did I buy it her for? Useless.

Kay I am fascinated by your fic and have started writing some of my own, I hope you don't mind. What you said about using it to practise your writing really rang true, and I had never thought of doing that, and it seems a great place to start. I haven't written anything for years.

I'm not going to put it on a website or anything but I have just started a blog - if you emailed me at themeg1 at live dot com I could give you the address, perhaps you could just give it a quick look-over and tell me if it really sucks. Which it could. Which it no doubt does. I mean it is nowhere near as good as yours but I haven't written for years, and I could do with the moral support even if I am just doing it for fun.

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 15:02

ooo! I'm being asked to beta! Cool. Yeah, I'll drop you a line.

Just saw This extended version of the kiss scene, where someone has used the much better kiss from Confidential. Cor, s'good, it is.

serenity · 08/07/2008 15:10

That's very good (even with my Roase/10 'issues' )

KayHarker · 08/07/2008 15:16

You need the grabbing and the clinging, I think.

sobs for the original Oh, when he swallowed as he turned away, poor bunny.
