Are we really on a new thread already! Only seems like 5 minutes since the last one began.

Sarah is still in prison/on remand, (for killing Theo,) and is toughening up in there now, hanging onto snooker balls in a sock to hit someone with! One of the prisoners in there has been threatening her and her family if Sarah doesn't get Kit to help her son who is in trouble. (But Sarah has dumped Kit!)

Ma Driscoll has been getting jiggy with Brian! Ollie is in trouble for having a go at Gary's son who appeared to be assaulting Christina when she was drunk on the floor.

Tim reconnected with a cousin he hadn't seen for several decades, (Richie) who went on to kill his wife, and now Tim and Sally are looking after his daughter, and Lou and Mick's girls are back with Tim and Sally too!

We haven't seen much of Debbie lately - or Summer, which is a shame, but plenty of mardy Todd who hates the world right now.

Bernie's aunt has just turned up in the form of glamourous actress Frances Barber, and has only a few weeks to live. So she is hoping Todd can help her with a Dolly Parton themed funeral. R.I.P lovely Dolly! ❤

Zanahoria You are spot on, great established actors and actresses not getting any decent storylines like Glenda and Ryan whilst newbies or people who can't act like Gemma getting all the limelight.

I think the problem on Corrie is that there are too many long term characters who are not trusted with a decent plot - the likes of Brian, Mary, Kirk and Sean have been reduced to one trick ponies who do the same turn every now and then. Even non joke characters like Maria hardly get a look in - asides from Big Ronnie the Baileys are not used -but newbies come in and are suddenly everywhere.

They need to decide if actors are good enough for the show long term and develop the characters, not have them waiting around to be victims terrorized by the latest panto villain.

This is very perceptive. And I'd expand on it and say that, while they indeed don't trust them, they're also weirdly squeamish about dropping any of them. Sean hasn't been relevant in a good 10 or 15 years. Brian's last decent plot was Julie's death - and the writers ruined it with the ridiculous twist of him reporting Eileen to the police. Brian's known Eileen for 15 years! He'd never believe that of her.

Keeping characters just because of the actor's length of service ultimately damages the programme. Corrie could learn a lesson from Emmerdale. Whilst I disagree with the axing of Jimmy King - Bob would have been a better choice - it shows they're not letting sentiment get in the way of the good of the show.

Forgot some - I like Betsy and Lauren and Dylan. Can't abide Sean, Mary is terrible now. And I'm not keen on Gemma and Chesney and the kids

zanahoria · 14/09/2026 11:06

I doubt they will swing the axe at the likes of Sean, Mary, Kirk and Brian even though the characters have gone stale so they should just give them some plots. Sean's antics at the pub - make camp acid comment, swish bar towel over shoulder and flounce off - are tedious but I like him when he is with Dylan and the others were half decent characters before they descended into comic turns

With the exception of the fabulous Big Ronnie, I would guess the Baileys are probably closest to being axed as they have not worked but are not part of the furniture.

Michael is dull and what was even the point of re-casting James ? In his first incarnation he had loads of plots -the gay footballer - the injured footballer but now nothing. It could be quite interesting showing someone like that come back from a ruined career but he only shows up when someone needs personal trainer, even though generally they do need his pithy advice but he latches onto any stray joggers anyway

FellIntoaCake · 14/09/2026 11:10

I think James has been a victim of DeeDee's exit. They clearly brought him back in for a big custody battle story, but when the actress playing DeeDee quick, they had to tie it all up very quickly. They also could have made much more of his role in the Carl storyline.

FellIntoaCake · 14/09/2026 11:12

Unfortunately I think you're right. Mary is the only one I'd keep, because Patti Clare actually does well with decent material - she just hardly ever gets it.

zanahoria · 14/09/2026 12:36

I would be happy to give long standing characters another chance, most of them were popular once and some are decent actors, the fault has been with the scriptwriters who have reduced them to filling space with their cliched turns.

How many more times must we witness Brian's buffoonery, Kirk saying something stupid or Gemma eating with her slack jawed mouth open while wearing a garish outfit ?

LesserSpottedCharacter · 14/09/2026 16:07

I don't mind James, at least he's not an odious, creepy, whatever, PITA with bad intentions. He could certainly be given a bit more depth rather than being merely a gay trainer.

Agree.
I really like him actually, he always seems happy and upbeat, I’d love him to get together with Todd.

LesserSpottedCharacter · 14/09/2026 18:41

That would be nice @AmusedMaker , after a decent break to make sure Todd's in a good place, although - shockingly 🙄 - he seems to have got over his nasty, drinking too much streak miraculously quickly.

Gemma is beyond redemption. I'd happily see the back of her, Chesney and quads.

cabus · 14/09/2026 19:40

I've just remembered Gemma scrubbed up ok when she was seeing the Newton and Ridley son and heir, Henry? He was really keen.

Perhaps he could come back and whisk Gemma away?

Ches could console himself by getting another Great Dane

His best days were with Schmeichel.

Urgh, Jodie slithering all over David! 😖

I assume Jodie set that fire off? (When Shona was asleep on the couch?)

This is really interesting, I’ve just spent way too long studying this 🤣
Has Audrey not been in it at all this year?!

Audrey (and Rita) are in their late 80s/early 90s, maybe they're both a bit weary now to be doing even small-ish scenes. I don't recall seeing Audrey in a while, but Rita has popped up now and again. Ken is also getting 0n in years, maybe nearly 90? Most of the older/original Corrie stars from the golden years/when Corrie was really good are long gone now. (Sadly.)

I know right! Ken is meant to be 87 in October, but yes, Bill Roache is 94. Amazing isn't he really? Smile

Barbara Knox is almost 93!
