Yah. Finally s2 is on - 6 new episodes

yes it will be on iPlayer - no I don’t want any spoilers for those who binge all 6 πŸ˜˜πŸ˜›

We all loved this

S1 here - don’t read anymore if haven’t seen

David Mitchell reprises his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor, the reclusive puzzle-setter thrown into the world of policing after his identical twin brother James, a detective chief inspector, vanished without explanation.

The detective dramedy series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a71857231/bbc-ludwig-renewed-season-three/), which stars David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, will drop its second season on BBC One on 20 August,

Season one saw James go missing, which led to his twin brother pretending to be him as he infiltrated the local police station to investigate, and he ended up helping to solve other cases

The synopsis for the second season (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a71744111/ludwig-season-2-must-watch-mystery/) reads: "Now that he's an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating.

Of course, John won't stop, and neither will Lucy, John's sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James - a puzzle needs solving and a husband and father needs bringing home. One masquerade may have ended, but a new one has just begun."

Why Ludwig season 2 is set to be the BBC's next must-watch mystery

Fans have grown impatient.

Loved that nasty snooker player.
Lucy is just so irritating, overacting, annoying.

IAmKerplunk · 11/09/2026 06:39

Aw I love Lucy!
Mark Bonnar is brilliant in this too - makes me laugh out loud.
Stephen Merchant plays creepy very well - love him too

PrincessScarlett · 11/09/2026 07:18

I loved the nasty snooker player too! Stephen Merchant was hilarious.

I also like Lucy. I get people find her irritating but that's the whole point of her character and makes her relationship with John really work. There have been several references by John and James to her perseverance and not doing as she's been told to do. And I love how much she annoys Mark Bonnar.

This is the information I came for, as I watch most of my TV on catch up and get confused as to which episode I have to catch up to. Blush

That’s why I usually say what no it is each week to bump thread so can easily find and for those who binge

I haven’t watched yet (officially) so will try and watch later. I went to bed with my iPad at 7.45pm to watch and next thing I knew, it was 5am with zero battery and all episodes viewed.

You’ll be pleased to know Blondes, I have zero recollection, of any of the episodes, as I slept through all of them and anything else iPlayer decided to show me! Blasted medication just knocks me out.

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun I’d not have been happy, I have to say. I’d don’t mind a binge at times, but I don’t like skipping to the end, when not seen the in between episodes! Will be having shedloads of coffee today to keep me awake. As have Professor T, The Box and Ludwig…

newbeggins · 12/09/2026 14:08

I’m really enjoying this and enjoyed S2 even more than S1. Really good cast of actors and great script.

NewAgeNewMe · 12/09/2026 15:01

Ooh that phone call! But why not ring Lucy???? I’m getting mixed up with John/james. I think that’s the point. And Mandy Ziegler now too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/09/2026 20:58

Tbh I think this weeks was the best one

lots of cat and mouse

tho i didn’t get the ref of the flowers

does that mean the florist rang her and said she came in to the shop and got the domino flowers and then she got them to send to her Pa knowing that Lucy would see them

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 12/09/2026 21:32

@Blondeshavemorefun I think the florist rang her (shockingly Lucy was not the master of subterfuge she thought!) and Kemper put the flowers in full view to send a message to Lucy that Kemper & co are onto their sleuthing.

InMySpareTime · 12/09/2026 21:34

Also the mid-interview slip of the tongue referring to Ziegler in the past tense, may have been intentional as a veiled threat to Lucy.

That’s what I thought

but why waste Β£100 for all she knew her pa may have not displayed them

so is Carter a baddie after all then? I liked him. I'm also warming to the new female sergeant (?) but not so much the male one, because she seems to appreciate John a bit more now

He better not be a baddie

It REALLY bothered me through the whole of Ep1 that John (Ludwig) wasn’t wearing his glasses. ESPECIALLY since the last scene of season 1 he had his glasses back on and his hair was a bit different.

I saw elsewhere on this forum someone mention that maybe he got used to wearing the contacts when he was pretending to be his brother James, but I remember he made such a fuss about the contacts being irritating that I thought it unlikely. My husband thought that it was maybe that the writers just forgot, but I have a hard time believing that a room full of writers on a mystery show would just β€œhand-wave” away something like that! Especially when he was wearing them in the parking garage with the drowning victim to distinguish him from James in S1.

And we saw James from behind a chain-link watching John and Lucy removing Sinclair’s boxes from storage also at the end of S1. So we know he’s alive and around. Please keep in mind that I am only on Ep1 of S2, so if they justify the glasses/contacts, please let me know.

WHAT IF . . . the twist is that James is the one masquerading as John this season? That’s my wild theory. I know there are a hundred reasons why I’m probably wrong, but I just wanted some people to discuss this with

Edited

I’ve not read others thoughts on this, but this went through my mind tonight. I’m further on than you were and I wouldn’t say anything in particular give me reason to think this but I definitely did find myself considering this.

I thought Lucy only bought the flowers so she could talk to the florist. She never intended to give them to Kemper. Kemper having identical flowers was to let Lucy know that Kemper is on to her and John.

Then surely would have been better to send them to Lucy

pa may have pug them in the kitchen or car etc and Lucy not seen them

Lucy was taking a risk talking to Kemper anyway

I thought it was brilliant with the flowers. I gasped when Lucy clocked them. Was a sinister message to Lucy that they are on to her. Lucy was always going to notice them as they were deliberately placed for her to see them.

Does anyone else find the way they film it irritating? Only the middle part of the screen is in focus.

I don’t know if I’d because I’m watching it on an iPad (am abroad -downloaded before I left) but the screen is so dark. I watch other things on that same IPad with no issue.

RomanMum · 14/09/2026 07:50

We’re watching on a tv and it’s the same. It’s like they’ve shot it with a very narrow focus so that anything not absolutely dead centre of shot is out of focus, really irritating when they’re showing a group scene and the people talking on the edge of the group are fuzzy.

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2026 08:15

Think I wittered on about this upthread. Anamorphic lens. I noticed it lots in this episode.

Channel 5 dramas are the worst for this.

purpleme12 · 14/09/2026 08:32

If this is what they do, I've never noticed it πŸ˜†

HatStickBoots · 14/09/2026 09:20

Interesting if they filmed that way intentionally because that’s the normal state that people who wear glasses to correct short-sightedness, see the world in! I also think that James and John have swapped but DH says that Lucy would know her own husband and to be John, James should be wearing glasses.
