David Mitchell reprises his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor, the reclusive puzzle-setter thrown into the world of policing after his identical twin brother James, a detective chief inspector, vanished without explanation.

Season one saw James go missing, which led to his twin brother pretending to be him as he infiltrated the local police station to investigate, and he ended up helping to solve other cases

Watched first episode with DH who kept sneering at what rubbish it was. So I watched second episode on my laptop while he was watching football, and when he realised, he was upset as he 'thought we were watching it together.'

My amateur sleuthing skills lead me to believe this is proof he enjoys it more than he claims.

I looked at the IMDb cast list for the episodes, and I am very excited about tonight’s episode.

i found episode 3 a bit flat, the murder was rubbish though had the potential to be interesting - I imagine there was a lot more backstory and interpersonal relationships that got cut in favour of the Carter-Ludwig relationship and MP storyline progression. I can understand why people were disappointed after the third episode, it ended on a low.

i loved the wedding episode. The new sergeants were funny saying things like “so he can go home whenever can he” 😂

one thing that is REALLY annoying me though … John said he’s solved 7 murders in the third episode of season 2. But when he says it he’s solved 8!? Office murder, hotel murder, tour guide murder, construction site murder, school murder, Holly Pinder, theatre murder and wedding murder. Add drowned man in car park murder and that’s 9! Why did he say 7!?

I’ve been watching season 1 again and I can see why people thought there was more romance between Lucy and John, the first episode really makes a thing of the pauses between them and that moment when he reads the acrostic from the letter and says “I always love you”.

that was disappointing.

Well we knew Ziegler's daughter's death was part of it all already so feeling like we are all getting good at this sleuthing business 😂

so is Carter a baddie after all then? I liked him. I'm also warming to the new female sergeant (?) but not so much the male one, because she seems to appreciate John a bit more now

2004 was hot tub death, 2014 was suicide, 2024 I thought was Sinclair murder, but I guess it’s Mandy Ziegler. It’s all so sinister! This episode was so good, wonder why they bothered with such a rubbish episode 3. The interview between Lucy and Joanne Kemper, the flowers and everything. Call with James. I wonder who DCI Carter has found, James? DH was saying in the last episode the enjoyment had been him getting away with pretending to be James and that jeopardy was now gone, but they have the game with Joanne now.

I'm also wondering if Carter knows where James is. But he said "I think it's time we met" or something similar. Carter was drafted in to be James's new partner in series one so had he already met James? I'm trying to think who Carter hasn't met. Maybe it's Matt Neville, his predecessor?

This is the information I came for, as I watch most of my TV on catch up and get confused as to which episode I have to catch up to.

Agree that "I think it's time we met" wouldn't be about James.
