David Mitchell reprises his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor, the reclusive puzzle-setter thrown into the world of policing after his identical twin brother James, a detective chief inspector, vanished without explanation.

Didn’t they make the 2024 murder

It REALLY bothered me through the whole of Ep1 that John (Ludwig) wasn’t wearing his glasses. ESPECIALLY since the last scene of season 1 he had his glasses back on and his hair was a bit different.

I saw elsewhere on this forum someone mention that maybe he got used to wearing the contacts when he was pretending to be his brother James, but I remember he made such a fuss about the contacts being irritating that I thought it unlikely. My husband thought that it was maybe that the writers just forgot, but I have a hard time believing that a room full of writers on a mystery show would just “hand-wave” away something like that! Especially when he was wearing them in the parking garage with the drowning victim to distinguish him from James in S1.

And we saw James from behind a chain-link watching John and Lucy removing Sinclair’s boxes from storage also at the end of S1. So we know he’s alive and around. Please keep in mind that I am only on Ep1 of S2, so if they justify the glasses/contacts, please let me know.

The CCTV thing... literally no one else walked through any streets of Cambridge while they were mimicking the routes to clutter their CCTV images??

I wouldn't have thought so, because James would not have been privy to all John and Lucy have discussed. And surely, wives can tell!

he puts them on in e 3 when gets woken up. Yet isn’t in them daytime

That would indicate that he has got used to wearing contact lenses. I have to put my glasses on before I get out of bed just so that I can make it to the bathroom to put my lenses in!

It's the 14 year old phone he uses that is puzzling for me. How does that work in 4G when sending and receiving messages?

I don't really understand why James isn't driving. I know they said his licence had expired, but how hard would it be to renew it by now?

James not driving is a handy plot device to instigate a lot of in-car conversation. If he could drive he’d drive alone, but a non-driver has to be in a car with at least the driver, usually talking at some stage.

Ah. I watched this episode three times because I kept nodding off, so I missed that! Three times.

I read somewhere that David Mitchell can't drive. So maybe that affected the script. But I agree not driving is a good plot device.

It was literally just that line of five words said as they introduced the task. Easy to miss.

Binged first three, so really looking forward to tomorrow’s episode.

yes I looked this morning.

Only because due to medication, I now go to bed around 8pm, so was looking to see if I could watch tonight’s episode earlier and then saw they were all on there..
