Yep. And the way that Rebecca reacted when coach Charlton told her she was staying, was ridiculous. The old Rebecca was strong, controlled and professional. The 'new' one is pathetic, brainless and incompetent, so far. Her appearance at the presser was also entirely out of character and toe-curling.

I agree about Rebecca - I’m hoping this is some kind of reference to Sassy’s description of her in the first series, and it will all make sense in the end. But it’s highly irritating in the meantime.

I think that was the point - the writers are usually quite deliberate when making things seem off.

Hmm, well, in my opinion it hasn't picked up in subsequent episodes so I'm not so sure.

I think you might be giving them too much credit.

Episode 3 and it's not improving
Law of diminishing returns
Am watching for Tanya Reynolds only
And hoping for another new character to add something (Trent Crimm and Dr Sharon were good characters).
I think they'd have been better off making this a one-off film, condensing 10 to 2 hours and tightening up the script, with various cameos.
That might have worked. This is pish.

I'm actually really enjoying it - and I did not like season 3, after spending over 50% of it's runtime on Keeley being done over by Jack re: the PR firm. Apparently that was because she was busy and had to film separately to the rest of the cast. It did not work.

The women's football inferiority thing is a bit heavy-handed. I'm worried that the single mum player is going to fail to show for a big match and they'll forgive her anyway because it just reinforces the misconception that working mums need "special treatment" as risky hires.

Okay.

Of course the mum with the child won’t show up to a vital match due to childcare issues and the child will say to one of them ‘ my mums the best ‘ or something like that and they will all have a tear and let her back for a second chance! ( it’s a guess)
Im surprised that Rebecca’s boyfriend is still with her after getting more attention from the waiter than her !

Theresalotgoingon · 20/08/2026 14:34

Did anyone else catch the last line of episode 3 where the waiter said something like he'd "found a whore to save face"?! DH and I looked at each other shocked as it was so out of "character" for this TV show particularly when the series is about highlighting feminism and women's football. The language really turned me off to be honest - but also surely Rebecca has been to that restaurant many times previously and would've been known as the owner of the local club!

the80sweregreat · 20/08/2026 14:38

That whore comment was horrible wasn’t it :(

That was incredibly random! Even if he'd phrased as it as "He's hired an escort" it would have been less jarring.

I don't know where they are going with Rebecca's personal life as I don't know if Season 4 is a one-off. If it isn't, maybe she will eventually decide to drop some commitments to make time for the pilot. If it is a one and done season then I don't really know why he's in it!

Just found this thread. I enjoyed the last ep of series 3 and feel like they should have left it there with all the ends wrapped up.

This is all too try hard and as pp said, too many characters have become caricatures of themselves.

We will watch to the bitter end but I really hope it picks up.

I agree with most of the comments here. Poor writing with this series, no sparks at all. I also feel that some of the women’s football team members should have been better developed by this point because at the moment I couldn’t give a shiny shit about the team. I’m also annoyed Coach Beard is back because he is very unfunny. But I know the actor was one of the show’s co-creators.
