Any thoughts on today’s episode? I’ve just watched it and had to make myself get to the end. Awful! The pub fight scene totally unbelievable, no depth to the characters any more just a series of unrelated scenes knitted together for the sake of dragging out a fourth season. I couldn’t care less if Keeley and Roy get together or even whether the team win or not! I’m on holiday next week and probably won’t bother with any more. Very sad!

NCTDN · 26/08/2026 21:25

I thought that the last couple of episodes were quite good, but tonight’s was awful. I’ll keep watching it though…

fundamentallyauthentic · 26/08/2026 21:58

Not even Tracey Ullman could elevate that episode.

MyOtherProfile · 26/08/2026 22:16

Tracy Ullman almost made it worth watching. It has really gone off the rails. All I can conclude is that it was written just for an American audience who might have a very fanciful view of Britain, and of women's football. And probably women.

It was very drifty, flaccid writing. The tone is all over the place. It’s not clear why Rebecca dislikes Tracey Ullman’s character (given that she’s said identical things in previous seasons), or how we’re supposed to see her, or what the point of Rebecca and Kelley’s ‘date’ in the stands was, and there was zero relationship between the Trent/Sharon radio interview and the action, except for it being a kind of inept voiceover to the ‘clique’ plot that wouldn’t have been needed if it had been better written. More worryingly, still no attempt to characterise the women’s team, who remain a random blur of violent, argumentative, dopey background blurs. Are we supposed to think it’s hilarious they got into a fight and trashed Mae’s pub? Alice’s ex-lawyer friend seems to just blend in with the rest, Ted ex-wife and child have vanished, Beard has nothing to do, and Roy, whom I’ve always liked as a character, is suddenly a bit of an asshole.

RunningJo · 26/08/2026 22:53

Hate to say it but I’m disappointed in it too.

I've been hoping every week something just clicks, that I’ll be interested in the characters, or storyline, but I’m not.

A real shame.

cloudtreecarpet · 27/08/2026 07:17

I agree with the comments above, the latest episode was just dire!

The fight in the pub was stupid, Tracey Ullmann's character was so stereotypical with the whole slag off of the white middle aged men in her speech and her general "tough woman" demeanour.

Keeley is so grating this time, Roy is ridiculous, Beard is meh, Ted is irritating and silly, Rebecca is pointless.
And the Crim & Sharon thing was also just daft & meh.

This series just isn't working and I think the fundamental problem is having Ted & Beard managing a women's team. Everything about it feels awkward & patronising towards the women and it's too much of a poor comedy this time with no substance at all.
Not sure if I can endure the rest of it.

Such a shame. I feel like they have ruined what was a beautiful thing...

BoldAquaOP · 27/08/2026 18:55

Hated this weeks episode, think I’m giving up with it.
keeleys character is like a spoilt child, if Rebecca was the great businesswoman she thinks she is then she wouldn’t be terrified of telling her no all the time, it’s so boring.
the women who play for the team are boring too.
there is no character depth like the other seasons.
sorry apple it’s a huge NO from me

readingmakesmehappy · 27/08/2026 20:24

Whyyyy did every character pronounce 'clique' as 'click' throughout? That is not how Brits say it!

Because it's an American series aimed at a target audience of Americans. I think that comes over really strongly as it's all stereotypes.

the80sweregreat · 27/08/2026 22:00

It’s absolutely ridiculous and very badly written.
I fell asleep. The only one I like is the lady coach.

That annoyed me too!

And how predictable that they'd have the women's team forming cliques and having cat fights going on. I mean .. seriously? How lazily sexist could the writing be?

Thank you! Yes!

I think there is something fundamentally sexist about this whole series and the way women are portrayed.
There is something uncomfortable about it.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2026 08:20

I liked the idea that this series was about starting a women's football team and thought the first episodes were ok. The end of the previous and this one were just bad.

Stereotyping and sexist indeed

Lady Greyhounds when most teams have ditched ladies from their names and not knowing Chelsea is one of the top teams in the WSL.

And 'clicks'

Wonderknicks · 28/08/2026 08:31

Click.
Aaargh

saraclara · 28/08/2026 08:59

I've just realised that the main male characters, Roy excepted, challenge the stereotype of maleness with their empathy, kindness and vulnerability. But the women? Rebecca is the vamp, Keely is the childlike, squeaky voiced little girl, both of them fashionistas, and the team in general, bitchy and irrational.

I couldn't be more disappointed.

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 28/08/2026 09:27

One of the great things about the previous Ted Lassos were that there were a lot of female writers involved. Yet here, in a series focusing on women's football, we have female writers coming up with such awful episodes.

I'm actually wondering if the reason 1-3 worked so well is that Sudekis, Hunt and Goldstein were more hands on in the writing room guiding storylines (and writing some scripts) compared with 4.

SummerNocturnal · 28/08/2026 09:43

Not sure. Just wikied it and can't be arsed to do a spreadsheet, but the writers on this series (Sarah Walker apart, who wrote this week's which was the worst by far) are all the same regulars. 🤷🏼‍♀️
It has just got sloppy and lazy and we're nearly halfway without any women players with rizz.
Trent and Sharon were there for nostalgia but no decent lines between them (I believe there will also be a cameo from Nate later on the series) but the real problem I have with it all now - I'm just not interested or invested in the characters anymore.
A bit like Shrinking. I loved the first series but by the fourth series, it's law of diminishing returns again. Lost its teeth, its edge and you end up hate watching.

SeditiousPam · 28/08/2026 09:46

I fell asleep halfway through Ep 4. It’s dreadfully disappointing - boring, repetitive, superficial. And with such a stellar cast, too!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/08/2026 11:41

I thought Shrinking held up well to the end!

OnlyUsername · 28/08/2026 11:50

I'm really enjoying it but I seem to be in the minority!

the80sweregreat · 28/08/2026 13:43

Why would you hang out on the terraces with blankets and mugs of drinks when it’s cold and you have a nice warm office ! I know she wanted to see the fireworks or whatever that was , but honestly ! Lol
Poor landlady with the broken windows too.

fundamentallyauthentic · 28/08/2026 18:46

Six more episodes of this. I may give up before the end unless it picks up steam.

Because it's basically a variant on a Hallmark movie. Snuggling up cosy in blankets and holding mugs of cocoa while an angelic choir sings in the background and snow starts to fall.

I agree. E4 was the biggest load of tosh I’ve ever watched. I am sooo disappointed.
