Def pure sugar. Whyyy can’t we be allowed to binge it?! This whole one episode a week nonsense is really annoying!

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2026 07:18

My dh only got the subscription for Apple TV for this and I reluctantly watch along as Ted is such a lovely person. However, the actual show is so saccharine it’s giving me toothache and Keely and the lady boss were written by a man.
I like Beard and Roy, but honestly it is such an unrealistic show , but maybe that’s the point?
Dh loves it and he isn’t a football fan at all.

Because Apple want you subscribing for as long as possible.

Im having to wait till the whole season has dropped, hopefully then I can get Ted Lasso and Slow horses within a months sub

This is what I will do and subscribe through Amazon and binge everything over the month !

Vodkamartini3olives · 05/08/2026 15:16

I can't. Season 1 was great Season 2 passable. Couldn't get through season 3. I'm going to avoid it and pretend that season 1 WAS Ted Lasso.

Same, they lost me at a dreadful Christmas episode.

SummerSummerSummertime · 13/08/2026 08:34

Ugh Keely and Hannah are cringe!
Love the show though.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 13/08/2026 08:37

Not sure the writers have ever met an actual female footballer as the entire team felt like caricatures. Some of the acting was appalling. The first series was so witty and now it’s just so contrived. Gutted as series 1 and 2 really were top drawer in places but lost its way series 3 and seems to still be lost. Annoyingly we will probably still keep watching!

SeditiousPam · 13/08/2026 08:44

I feel one does have to think of it as cartoon, rather than serious drama.

Thing is, I find most of the characters interesting and would appreciate weightier portrayals of their lives.

(For instance, Rebecca clearly has money troubles brewing - it will be tedious if this is only treated as a minor hurdle in the development of the team.)

Edited

Yeah it is supposed to be light weight not quite a sitcom but almost, that is how i watch it anyway.

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2026 08:53

I also can’t past the fact that if Rebecca was a real person, we wouidnt get on at all. She is far too high maintenance. I like that she treats Keely well, but only because she is married to her job.

SummerSummerSummertime · 13/08/2026 20:22

The twins fighting is ridiculous

fiveminutestochill · 14/08/2026 06:08

@SeditiousPamInteresting, I didn't see it as money trouble on Rebecca's side exactly, but more feeling a bit trapped between supporting women but not wanting to spend loads/lose money doing it - which will probably cause tension with Keeley.

@the80sweregreatI know what you mean about Rebecca... though tbh I probably feel that way about most of the characters. Even Ted.

Doe anyone know if Rupert is in it? I know Anthony Head (RIP) passed away recently but assuming they would have finished filming by then? They need him to counteract the sugar.

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2026 09:00

I feel that I would like Ted, but he just wouldn’t exist in the real world anyway ! He seems to like everyone though or gives them the benefit of the doubt at least.
Even when people screw him over ( like the west ham manager man )

Whelmed · 14/08/2026 09:19

I love coach chilton, i think she's a great addition.

saraclara · 14/08/2026 09:23

Rebecca's reaction and actions after the assumption that she wasn't feminist were toe-curlingly embarrassing and unbelievable. I'm so disappointed in the writing so far, in this series. Also they're making Higgins into a bumbling caricature. Even the file that was part of his story was ridiculously unbelievable.

I loved the first three series, and had managed to suspend my disbelief to enjoy the characters. But now it's just farcical.

itsnotfairisit · 14/08/2026 10:02

Am a Ted super fan, but I’m not enjoying this series so far, save for any scenes with Coach Chiltern.
I’ve never liked the Kelly character. Can’t put my finger on it. And the other old characters just seem a bit silly and hackneyed now.

Yep. And the way that Rebecca reacted when coach Charlton told her she was staying, was ridiculous. The old Rebecca was strong, controlled and professional. The 'new' one is pathetic, brainless and incompetent, so far. Her appearance at the presser was also entirely out of character and toe-curling.

youngestisapsycho · 14/08/2026 16:39

I watched episode 2 but did I miss where his wife and son are?

Ex-wife, but he mentioned that they were moving over the following week as if any ex-wife would be willing to just move countries on a whim.

cloudtreecarpet · 17/08/2026 10:44

I hope the ex wife and child don't come over in the end, Ted should be on his own, it works better that way.

ForForTwo · 19/08/2026 20:22

Cliche on top of cliche although I appreciate some of the points and observations regarding the women’s game, most of that is spot on. Coach Chilton is the best thing about it so far.

cloudtreecarpet · 20/08/2026 08:16

Three episodes in and it's just dire. I just don't think it's working and tbh it annoys me that Ted & Beard are coaching the women's side in the first place!

And the son & ex wife coming over too just seems a pointless added detail.

Keely and Roy are like caricatures of themselves in this series.
And Rebecca's romance with the pilot is also irritating.

Not sure if I can stick it out with this series.
What a disappointment 😞

Whelmed · 20/08/2026 08:55

the tryout scene was funny. But as PP said the players just seem like caricatures which is a shame. but otherwise i'm really liking this season, i might be in the minority. i do wonder if it would work even better in 30 minute format like season 1-2?

ImogenBrocklehurst · 20/08/2026 09:10

cloudtreecarpet · 05/08/2026 20:00

Very disappointing and odd first episode.
Hope it picks up.
Just felt very contrived and a bit silly in places.

I think that was the point - the writers are usually quite deliberate when making things seem off.
