i hate it.

yes diane is a good actress.. but honestly, i'm fed up of the over-reaction to health stories on the show. No-one ever takes their family, they never face these things as a healthy unit.. it's always secrecy and lies, and avoidance, and self loathing.

Just ONCE it'd be nice to see a married couple do this together, as a supportive, loving family unit.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 19:58

I do agree that they all hide their diagnosis from their family and go it alone and most people wouldn’t irl.
Tanya did it, Stewart went off the rails at one point and ran away, can’t remember if Lola told anyone at first , but I’m sure other characters have hidden health problems as it seems to be what they do.
She does tell Jack this week. It’ll probably be hard because of Jordan.

Shellingbynight · 01/06/2026 20:11

So sorry to hear about your husband @Meredusoleil but hopefully his prognosis seems good. My mother had cancer twice and died many years later of something unrelated.

The final shot of Jordan was odd because Ian definitely did hit a bin (as well as Jordan) yet the bin didn't appear in shot when we saw Jordan lying in the road.

Denise has told Yolande, and shortly tells Jack too. She obviously can't tell Chelsea at the moment but at least she isn't soldiering on alone.

Alucard55 · 01/06/2026 21:20

Going against the grain but I found the whole Denise thing really boring.

Isn't it very out of character for Chelsea to talk to Jordan like that? There's so few interactions I'm not sure if it is or not.

I'm sure I spotted Patrick dancing at the wedding but he was off in a taxi before the wedding took place.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 21:25

Meredusoleil
Sorry to hear your news about your Dh ;(
It can’t be easy getting such news and having to deal with hospitals and the worry of it all as well. wishing you and yours all the best.
I can imagine it’s hard when dramas do such storylines as so many people are dealing with their own health concerns in real life and we know soaps don’t always get it right. Hopefully they would have done their homework on this particular story , especially as Denise is a character we’ve grown to love and like.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 21:33

Will Ian be held responsible for not checking what he did hit ? He did have one drink as well.
Could he be prosecuted or fined for this ?
How will he prove it wasn’t hit and run or something like that ?

I'm surprised he didn't at least get out of the car to check he hadn't caused any damage to anything!

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 21:38

Most people would check the car ! It didn’t have the beeb beeb thing on it either. That tech is a god send on cars.

Yes, I’m sure I saw Patrick dancing at the wedding! 🤔

Zippidydoodah · 01/06/2026 21:49

Jordan hasn’t been seen since he was a toddler, and now he’s a giant child. She was so horrible to him. I always wonder about child actors; I know he’s a bit older than he’s meant to be, but do they sit them down and say, I’m going to shout at you and be really mean, but I don’t mean it, I’m only acting?!

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 21:53

Yes. The children must have to be told it’s only acting!
I suppose their parents are also on set as well to remind them. No wonder they don’t use children that often , they have to wait till they are older for the teen angsty stories.

murasaki · 01/06/2026 21:56

I assume they must have the equivalent of an intimacy co ordinator for the kids, to make sure they're ok.

Shellingbynight · 01/06/2026 21:56

I suppose Ian thought he knew what he'd hit as he'd been round to the back of the car to chuck that Beale cone. I'm surprised his car didn't have either beepers or a camera. My car is really old and has a reversing camera.

I thought I saw Patrick too! Not sure who else it could have been.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 22:01

They messed up the Patrick scenes then!
I didn’t notice him, but it doesn’t surprise me as many scenes are clearly filmed at different times and they must have got confused!

Meredusoleil · 01/06/2026 22:09

I thought I saw a guy dancing with Kim that looked like Patrick in a hat. But obviously it wasn't him.

Also really like how glam and grown up Amy looked.

Although the initial opening scenes tonight at the wedding did look a bit forced and fake imho. It was just all too loud and jolly to look real iykwim?

murasaki · 01/06/2026 22:10

I didn't notice him either. It may just have been her idealising people she cared about having a good time though, so he'd need to be in her image.

Amy did seem to have got a different dress though, after their tiff in the morning re her messing the green one up.

Yes. That's true. Just as well, as the green one was hideous imho.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2026 22:13

The green dress wasn’t nice. She looked better later on.

murasaki · 01/06/2026 22:14

0h I totally agree!

SnowFrogJelly · 01/06/2026 23:06

Good ep tonight

Aquarius1234 · 01/06/2026 23:43

I think it would be boring if it was all healthy normal functioning families and relationships. Esp these days. With the current writers.
Maybe 30/ 40 years ago it could be done without the secrets and lies but still really gritty and dark.

I liked the Denise stuff. The actual seeing someone ill and hospitals is grim viewing.
But the shock and breaking news to everyone is the best bits.
I like seeing someone going to the hospital alone as im sure that happens all the time in real life.

Ive never had a relative come in the room with me, even when I was scared or worried about something.
Just a phone call maybe a while after.

I think its interesting to see the solo thoughts and worry of someone, without someone sitting next to them.

Shellingbynight · 02/06/2026 08:23

Yes my mother was on her own when she got her diagnosis both times. I went with her to a couple of follow up appointments later on.

And I have known a couple of people to conceal diagnosis from close family until the end. My friend's dad told his children, but not wife because he said she wouldn't cope and it would ruin their final year together. She knew he was ill, but not that it was cancer and terminal. We thought it was a terrible decision but his wife said afterwards that he was right and she was glad he hadn't told her!

Eastie77Returns · 02/06/2026 08:29

The wedding reception scenes were so obviously shot at out of synch with everything else going on. There was a shot of Max and Phil laughing heartily together - they were at daggers drawn 48 hrs previously when Max grassed up Grant! EE weddings are always ‘a ‘big knees-up’ and include guests the bride and groom barely know and would never invite IRL. Vicky and Ross are meant to be broke so why would they pay to cater for so many randoms like Josh? Winston turns up at every single wedding😂

I see I’m alone in thinking Amy’s green dress was quite nice😳

Unrelated but I think they are going down a whodunnit SL with Eddie ending up dead esp with Harry saying “I’d kill you if you were 30 years younger”, Gina so angry etc. Knowing EE the culprit will turn out to be Ivy after she throws her baby rattle at him.

Eastie77Returns · 02/06/2026 08:31

Cross-posted @Shellingbynight, I’m sorry to hear that. It’s such a cruel illness.
