The next series starts on the 21st April. Looking forward to banquettes, and bizarre paint choices, and upcycling of old junk. DD and I are rewatching the old series and I’d forgotten how crazy some of the rooms were!

Unless she was made to do it by the producers? For something for them to talk/joke about?

Maybe it wasn't even that book but they pretended it was?

I wondered this because how could you have bought 50 Shades of Grey and not known but I suppose it could have been a less known a follow up.

Wasn’t funny either way and also looked shite.
Instagram is awash with people that are brilliant at making crafts for decor, shop windows, classrooms etc, there is really no excuse to be on a show like this making crap even if you nicked the idea.

It seems to general consensus on here this series is that the format of the show is tired and doesn’t fit with how things are done anymore (interiors are massive on instagram, we have seen it all before) and Michelle and her inconsistent judgment has to go.

Agree it’s odd most of them aren’t even designers or aspiring designers.
Duran said something at the end about not being a designer, I wonder if they are approached via social media and invited to audition and then fit the ‘aspiring interior designer’ bit around their actual interests in painting or whatever.

Very probably. I know Love is Blind recruit from Insta, then the contestant has a following that brings in viewers and the contestant then gets more followers.

How else could the guitars have been displayed ?! Hated the gift shop thought it was very twee. Sophie a bit annoying with how stressed she gets. Emmly for the win or Lily Allen as I like to call her.

I've been thinking about the choice of inappropriate book leaves chosen to display in the window, easily read by any customer (I would definitely read them to try to identify the book Grin). I am really pissed off actually.

If it were my shop I would immediately ask for them to removed as so unprofessional. I wonder if that happened after the programme? The fact that the photo of the current window has no leaves makes this very possible. Alternative books could include one from the Harry Potter series; books which have been read by millions. The designer who made that decision should have gone imo.

What other books could she have chosen that would be more appropriate?

Agree! Especially since they merchandised the tree with baby grows and new baby cards

Let’s be honest, it has been a pretty sh*t series.

Let’s be honest, it has been a pretty sh*t series.

It hasn't been the best series and I agree that a couple of the more stronger candidates were ousted earlier on.

I think it needs a bit of a revamp. Michelle isn't the best judge with her inconsistent judging, and Alan Carr's increasingly innuendo-laden comments and stupid skits are irritating rather than amusing (it was all a bit too much in the last Amanda and Alan series as well). And if they are going to get guest judges then make then good ones. Sophie Robinson was good but the bloke this week wasn't. DH said that someone like Mary Portas would have been all over those shop designs.

I much preferred the format of the forerunner to this programme, The Great Interior Design Challenge. You had two judges who really knew their stuff, and an interesting historical segment as well. The whole 'journey' if you like was judged, from the contestants initial presentation to the client to the end result. I also used to like the random challenge where the contestants had to take something that the judges had chosen, or they were invited to choose items which had to be incorporated into their finished design. It just made for a more coherent and well thought out programme.

This is the only series where I haven't had a favourite by the midway point. I have a preference for Emmely at this point but no strong feelings..

I have no issue with Alan's presenting but I really want Michelle to go. She's lost credibility as a judge. I also felt the guest judge this week just went along with what she said and couldn't actually see any problems with the guitar shop. Not the first time I've thought that with a guest judge.

deeahgwitch · 01/06/2026 15:12

I just think they have dumbed down this show as they did with MAFS - the original one on C4 was so much better but they copied the Australian one and it’s now just celebrity wannabes.
I don’t watch Love Island or other reality sh*te.
I guess I’m not the target market for IDM.
Bring back Sophie Robinson and that interiors show she did, please.
And another thing- the guest judge just goes along with Michelle’s view 🙄

Netaporter · 02/06/2026 13:40

It’s the Corporate box decorating gig tonight,,, Brighton and hove Albion plus Fat Boy Slim judging. I’m away and 2 hrs ahead so will dip out of this thread until I’ve been able to watch it. Have fun everyone!

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/06/2026 13:59

No offence to fat boy slim but what does he know about interior design

Well obviously he’s a professional Brighton- dweller and he’s right here, right now 😉 plus he’s a shareholder in the club and I guess to the producers, that qualifies him.. for me, about as appropriate as Dame Kelly Holmes being a judge for similar reasons….

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/06/2026 15:26

I see what you did there @Netaporter 🤣

He absolutely knows what the corporate nox customers want and expect.

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/06/2026 19:41

I hope you are right @Twonewcatsand he stands up to Michelle’s random judging

Two boxes to design - one corporate, one for players - for each designer.

Tricky.

Halsall · 02/06/2026 20:07

These corporate sporting box things are always so dull (imho)

SabrinaThwaite · 02/06/2026 20:08

I remember the players’ lounge at the old Oxford United ground in the 90s - it was like a tired pub.

SabrinaThwaite · 02/06/2026 20:10

Papier-mâché - DRINK

Halsall · 02/06/2026 20:11

Papier-mâché football shirts Nooooooooooooooooo

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/06/2026 20:12

Oh dear the glimpse we had of the papier mache does not bode well

Sophie’s corporate room looks very … colourful.

littlbrowndog · 02/06/2026 20:20

Heck that papier mache stuff.

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/06/2026 20:21

Emmely has really grown on me

OP posts:
SabrinaThwaite · 02/06/2026 20:21

So Emmely had no interior design experience before the comp - probably explains how she’s listened and adapted through the series.
