Was an avid ER fan 20+ yes ago. See its now on netflux, started rewatching. Its so superior to anything I have watched recently on TV. I had forgotten just how good it was! Anyone else?

I've now finished- I feel a bit sad about it really .

I'm glad I've re-watched it- makes me realise I don't really remember much of it !

I did like them bringing back so many of the cast at the end- but Kem annoyed me (true to her character though- and no mention of the fact Carter had just had a kidney transplant- ddn't she know?! She was so self asorbed).

I need to find something else to watch now Grin

SVU is back with a few new seasons.

If you like medical dramas try Saving Hope, I think that’s one of my faves, with a twist.

if you want to stay OG then the big ER rival Chicago Hope is also good. Even further back St Elsewhere is phenomenal, especially for the “of it’s time” storylines like patients refusing to accept Denzel Washington as their dr because of his Skin colour, and the AIDS epidemic as it started.

code black and night shift are good for full on medical dramas try- code black has a good rep amongst US medics for it’s accuracy. see also Critical for a British version.

I also liked Transplant and the Resident.

obv also the mainstream GA, New Amsterdam, House etc but they’re a bit far fetched iMO. Stretch the medicine a bit too far to fit the plots, and more soapy.

plenty to keep you going.

Unfortunately, I've seen St Elsewhere (the batshit ending will always be top of the bat shit endings list), The Resident (very recently re-watched that one) Code Black- all of the ones you've suggested actually. GrinI would love to watch Chicago Hope again (I recently re-watched 'Dead Like Me' , I love Mandy Patinkin), but I don't think it's available anywhere on streaming for free.
I love Greys- though it's more about the relationships than the medicine(and I did love Private Practice). Also Station 19.

I really like Chicago Med- but that has disappeared mid season 11, so I am waiting for it to come back!

I always joke that I have watched so many medical dramas, I could probably qualify as a surgeon Grin.

or a forensic pathologist - I've re-watched 'Bones' / 'Silent 'Witness/ 'Walking the the Dead'

And that's when I'm not watching the tennis.

I watch far too much tv.

Grin.

loved ER
never cried so hard as when Mark Greene died and then the letter that Carter read out and it was put on the notice board
Cried and cried

I really need to get round to watching St Elsewhere; I feel like it's the OG of medical dramas.
New Amsterdam is ridiculous, but good for a light watch when your brain is fried and/or you need to just sit and heckle the telly.
Does anyone watch The Pitt? Is it good? I can't help wondering if it'd just make me miss ER and Carter.

RancidRuby · 12/06/2026 19:18

The Pitt is brilliant, definitely worth a watch.

BlackSwan · 12/06/2026 21:26

The Pitt gets five stars from me. I did it the other way round- binged the Pitt & then went back and watched ER for the first time...

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 13/06/2026 20:42

New Amsterdam is saccharine overdose and The Resident has Cary from The Good Wife whispering and tilting his head as main acting efforts.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/06/2026 16:57

I’ve made it to the end.

Really loved it, loved how they bought back the older cast, even seeing teen Reece! Benton and Carters relationship was so good.

Really loved Morris by the end as well, he is such a good singer!

Kem was a complete PITA, I really hope Carter remarried a lovely woman and had a bunch of children.

Kem ruined it for me. I really didn't understand the point of bringing her back, to totally bring the mood down. What happened with Joshua was extremely sad- but it happened to Carter too, and she didn't seem to appreciate it did.
Or realise Carter was ill. He might not have told her though- but not sure how he kept it from her.

Never liked her anyway Grin

Teen Reece was very cute. Morris, and his gf was my favourite bit towards the end (loved the episode with the heart operation kids). I would really have liked to see how they got on, and hope they got married and had had lots of little Morris and Claudias.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/06/2026 20:45

Carter did tell Kem after his operation, Carter deserved a better ending really, would have been nice to see him happily married with a baby.

Morris and Claudia’s kids would be amazing!

I wonder if he’d told Claudia about all his sperm donation children 🙈😂

I did think I’m not convinced Carol and Doug would have made it in rl, I think Doug is the sort to have an affair…

Another take away is that cranking the chest hardly ever works, I think in 15 years of ER it only ever saved a life once or twice. I get that it’s a last ditch attempt to save a life but if that reflects rl it seems completely pointless.

Daisypod · 15/06/2026 10:58

Just chewing my way through season 15 now and what’s really been bugging me about this and the last season is that in every episode there’s a bit with music and trying to be atmospheric and moody. They didn’t used to do this and makes it seem a lot less realistic and more soap like

RancidRuby · 15/06/2026 12:56

The last few seasons felt like a real slog to get through, and I was quite disappointed with the ending. Bringing Kem back felt like a waste of time as there was no resolution there, the status of their relationship was left up in the air yet again.

Raahh · 15/06/2026 18:16

The overly dramatic background music really became a bit of a distraction- no idea what that was in aid of. It usually felt really out of place.

Raahh · 15/06/2026 18:22

I liked that the ending was 'just another day'- no big dramatic explosion, or killing everyone off (or 'it was all the imagination of a child' Grin). It kept a little bit of hope that maybe, just maybe they could reverse the decision and bring it back. Not that they ever have (But The Pitt is close).

Not like when the BBC ended Holby City (still bitter) and Jackie died ,and it ends with all her organs being donated - so it's about as final as it can get really, as she was one of the main characters.
That would definitely have to be retconned as a 'Just been in the shower' moment, if they brought it//her back Grin.

Scorchio84 · 15/06/2026 18:41

Yeah me too @Usernamenotfound1 about Mellucci..

Also I'd sort of checked out by the time Kovac & Abby had their baby too

ScaredButUnavoidable · 15/06/2026 19:20

I’m a few episodes into series 13….

Loved it when Abby was sitting in the park with a load of Nannies and they were all talking about how they’re shagging the baby dad’s and helping themselves to the mother’s clothes 🤣

Loved it when Morris was supporting his sperm donor son at the football match too and he was assumed to be a child molester because nobody had a clue who he was, including the boy’s two mothers. I couldn’t stand his character when he first entered the show but he’s really, really growing on me.

Gates is a total arsehole. I’m hoping Pratt will punch him at some point.

Scorchio84 · 15/06/2026 19:38

Usernamenotfound1 · 10/06/2026 12:32

I really don’t like Angela Bassett. She has a very “angry” style of acting and I can never feel any sympathy for her characters.

I thought she was spectacular in "What's Love Got To Do With It?"

sorry not to derail!

Ugh he obviously went to "The George Clooney Tilting Head School of Acting" 🙄😂

Yes!

He also does The Smirk.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/06/2026 21:59

I thought New Amsterdam was a really poor imitation of ER. I gave up pretty quickly with it as it annoyed me so much.

Did the mum with the heart transplant die? The little girl is in Modern family I think?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/06/2026 22:05

Just checked who Angela Basset is 🙈 I had warmed more towards her character by the end, the episode where Morris and Cate got stuck at conference cracked me up 😂

Just seen on Wikipedia that her screen husband on ER is her real life husband!

Raahh · 17/06/2026 18:05

I watch 'Matlock' and it's taken me the whole of the series to realise that the character of Eva Munoz in that is Claudia from ER Grin.

i knew she looked familiar (usually I'd be straight to IMDBGrin)

PinkNeonSign · 21/06/2026 22:45

Just finished ER after dipping in and out for months, maybe longer. Really enjoyed it, liked most of the characters and Kovac was gorgeous!

What should I watch next?!
