Was an avid ER fan 20+ yes ago. See its now on netflux, started rewatching. Its so superior to anything I have watched recently on TV. I had forgotten just how good it was! Anyone else?

I didn’t get that episode at all, it seemed pointless 🤷‍♀️

It really did- and as I didn't watch Third Watch at the time (and certainly am not goin tot track the crossover episode down now, even if I can!)- it was just confusing!
US show writers love their crossover episodes/backdoor pilots though- Shondaland is littered with them Grin

Plus, I never liked Chloe- it was enough that Susan was back, why was I suddenly supposed to care about the sister and 'Little Susie' after 5 years? There were enough characters in the actual show to bother with.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/05/2026 10:08

Was it a cross over show? I didn’t realise that 🤦‍♀️ they sort of makes more sense I suppose.

I don’t really like any of the shows where they go outside of the ER, I’ve just watched all the African ones which are pretty grim. I quite liked the Benton one when he went to the South and I make an exception for the Marks death episodes 😢😢

Im pretty shocked at Franks open racism, would that have just been accepted at that time? I feel like it wouldn’t have been in the UK.

parkezvous · 10/05/2026 10:14

Just finished! Wowzers! So good!

Cocachanel · 11/05/2026 16:16

Just saw Gallant in the newest episode of Grey's Anatomy 🤯
He has aged very well

Scorchio84 · 11/05/2026 22:34

I loved that Third Watch crossover too @Usernamenotfound1

Edited to add sorry I didn't read you post properly 😆

pinotnow · 11/05/2026 22:45

I'm just on to season 14 now. Season 13 I struggled with and found it hard to engage with a lot of the characters. I do really like Abbie but none of the other stories grabbed me and I don't like how Neela develops after randomly marrying Gallant. I also don't like how they have her blurting out British swear words like bollocks, wanker and pissed off all the time. The other characters barely swear and it just sounds fake. I think at this point first time around I was dipping and in and out so a lot of this feels new to me.

Also, I massively dislike Gates. He is rude, belligerent and unbelievably arrogant with no redeeming features. I feel he's like a souped up Doug Ross in the way he breaks the rules but he lacks his charm (I don't share the hate for Doug on here) and good looks, plus Doug come across as really caring about 'kids', while Gates just seems to break the rules because he can and so he can get into yet another argument with someone. He's a real turn off for me.

It took me a while to place him. He does look good.

I think I spend most of my time on IMDB when I'm watching things, these days Grin.

Currently on Series 6….

I am absolutely disgusted that Doug hasnt turned up to help Carol with the twins!!

I mean obviously he’s been written out the show but surely the script writers must see how utterly ridiculous this is??

They needed to have killed him off or something to make this even remotely plausible!

As if he’d have just left her to get on with it?!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/05/2026 16:15

Yeah I think you’re expected to suspend belief re Doug not helping with the twins a bit like when Doug and Carol don’t turn up at Marks wedding or funeral!

I think Carol mentions at one point that he is visiting them or something but yeah killing him off would have made more sense 🙈😂

borntobequiet · 15/05/2026 16:58

Carol and Doug are easily the least attractive characters and the least accomplished actors.

Mark, Carter and Elizabeth are my favourites ❤️

Dr Romano is a bit of a twat isn’t he!!

Raahh · 18/05/2026 21:20

I'm now well into series 10, and I have had to skip most of the Congo stuff, which bored me before, and is no better now.

I had forgotten how annoying Kem (Thandiwe Newton) was at the time. She's a good actress, but they made her so irritating in this. Carter had many Gfs. There is no chemistry between Carter and Kem, despite the sad the baby storyline. (and I know they stay together and I don't get why).

pinotnow · 18/05/2026 21:55

The only people Carter had chemistry with were the blonde pediatric surgeon he was sleeping with for a while, and Benton (not like that).

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 18/05/2026 22:11

Kem was annoying (she is unbelievably beautiful though!) I thought there was some chemistry, Carter definitely seemed in love with her. I’m annoyed the minute she left the country Carter starts dating someone else 🙄

I’ve just got to the episode with Miranda from SITC in where she’s had a stroke.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 18/05/2026 22:44

I’ve started the series where Carter has returned to work after completing his rehab programme for his narcotic addiction.

I have just finished the episode where Mark proposed to Elizabeth via an engagement ring in the fridge!!!

They’re such a cute couple!

I’m getting so tired of seeing Benton’s miserable face on the screen….please tell me he gets written out the show soon??

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 23/05/2026 00:30

Im still on series 5, funny watching Lizzie dance the tango with Mark, after seeing her on Strictly!

I’m up to season 12 now! Susan has randomly disappeared (again!) and there’s a new attending. I think after 12 seasons I’ve just about figured out the American Dr hierarchy, it goes;
students
interns
residents
senior resident
attending
head of department

Is that about right?! Which I’m guessing equates in the UK to;
students
junior dr (? House officer)
Senior house officer
registrar
consultant

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 24/05/2026 16:44

Just thinking about how uncomfortable was that scene with Corday and Benton in the dressing room shower, where’s still trying to pull.

And Luka is such an unpleasant and overbearing and jealous sleaze. Why does Abby stay with him?

I'm a little bit past the episode where Weaver just dropped into the conversation that Susan had left- no proper explanation or anything- just that she got tenure somewhere else. This coming after Carter got tenure, annoyed Susan and then left anyway Hmm.

( though I'm now watching the episodes we see Carter again, in Africa , when Pratt gets sent to Sudan. I found them boring first time around).

Oh- and Abby being pregnant , 5 minutes after Sam and Luca broke up.
No wonder Sam was a bit Hmm.

The hierarchy always confused me. Especially since half the time, they take no notice of who is in charge Grin

The concept of “tenure” always confused me as well. And why it seemed so important, it was similar for Ross in friends I think?

before I realised that job security isn’t a thing in America and “tenure” is a big deal because it means they can’t fire you for no reason.

also explains why they walk in and out of jobs with no notice, work stupid hours, get sacked and leave there and then etc..

I was watching the resident the other day- directed by Paul McCrane btw- and realised when there’s a social event they always get ready in the hospital and go straight from work. Wandering about in evening dresses and suits. Inevitably being called to see a patient last minute and sit with them, missing their big award or party. Even weddings there’s no taking the day off, they all go straight from work 🤣

Raahh · 24/05/2026 19:38

Paul McCrane does /did a lot of directing- on ER, and other things. I was always glad that he didn't leave ER under a cloud ( it was clear that some did).
I loved the Resident, was really sad when it ended. (though the time slip was a bit odd).

Tenure confused me too.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 24/05/2026 21:19

Oh God - I’ve reached the episode when Mark’s tumour has come back 😢

You’re at a similar point to me. It hasn’t come back yet, but Rachel’s back in Chicago and it’s only a matter of time 😢

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/05/2026 21:49

@Raahhi must have blinked and missed that about Susan randomly leaving because she got tenure somewhere else! She seemed to leave quite hastily the first time round so I wonder if someone pisses her off and she flounces?! And yy to Carter getting tenure and just up and leaving anyway!!

The job security thing makes sense, I’ve just watched an episode where Hele gets fired for doing overtime 🤯

It must be terrifying, especially when your health insurance is tied to your job, that you can be fired on the spot for no reason.

No wonder they never take annual/sick leave and work huge hours.

makes sense why tenure would be such a big deal.

I can see the Susan vs carter thing as carter doesn’t actually need it, what with him being a rich kid, whereas Susan has a family to support.
