It's snowy, chilly, January (2026.) CORONATION STREET THREAD. **No spoilers please.**

SabreIsMyFave · 09/01/2026 22:12

The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. Smile (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew. Flowers

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon. Smile

Like others I’m completely bored of the pub family. They are doing all of these dramatic storylines for them and taking over episodes but it’s a yawn fest because I don’t feel invested in the characters at all. I wish they had made more of Glenda running the pub and gave her a bigger story - maybe she could have met somebody and then her new future family could have moved in. I feel like Glenda’s character is really wasted. I don’t understand why they brought Eva back because I find her irritating (especially that laugh!) and I don’t particularly find there is much sisterly chemistry between her and Leanne (and Toyah).

And I shouted at my TV when it appeared Carla has taken Lisa back. Her drunken ramblings saying that Carla was the love of her life (or whatever the contents of the droning on was), I just thought she should have thought about that when not only did she sleep with Becky, she was going to leave with her! Carla is such a fool.

Exactly. Maggie is horrible. No way would I be 'calling a truce' with her if I was Eva, until she apologised for her vile behaviour.

Ben blames everyone else for his stress but he is the sort of bloke who solves his problems with his fists. His contribution to the Xmas kerfuffle was to believe his mum's poison about Eva and punch Adam then left Eva to calm things down. He was acting the hard man by threatening Carl too but the one person he will not stand up to his mother.

It is no wonder he is stressed out, he is just a violent bonehead

I thought that was Kev

Is he Alice?

Yes! I immediately thought 'bloody hell, its Kev' Shock

I think the man had a rounder head than Kev and different side burns/stubble - he seemed much stockier than Kev.

Now people have mentioned Hayley’s son I’m inclined to agree with them that it might be him.

Do double check this information from Digital Spy but if true then sport is yet again taking over

”Bad news, soap fans – Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to face another schedule change. The ITV shows have been taken off air occasionally in recent times due to sports fixtures.
It looks like that will be the case once again next month, with the week starting 2 February seeing both soaps off air for 2 nights. Firstly, the episodes on Tuesday (3 February) will not be shown then due to the Carabao Cup match between Arsenal and Chelsea from 7.30pm on ITV1.
Thursday's (5 February) episodes will also be off air due to a Six Nations match between France and Ireland from 7.20pm on ITV1”

Corrie is so bonkers now that it could well be.

I was a bit confused as I had to pause my telly and get up close to the screen and read the bloody text.

Do they think everyone has a two hundred inch super duper Hi Def screen?

Aw, bloody hell, I wish they'd bugger off with mucking about with the only way I can tell what day it is, I'm only just getting used to the new format.

Shellingbynight · 22/01/2026 13:36

I'm still getting used to the fact Corrie is on every day. It is annoying when it's bumped for sport though.

Deadringer · 22/01/2026 13:46

Hayleys son wasn't very nice iirc, but i dont know whey he would have a beef with Roy. I don't think Roy would hand over any money, he's not daft so I don't see where this Alice stuff is going. And I hope Olly and Lauren don't get together, he is too nice for her, what about Bethany, she is single isn't she?

JewelleryCat · 22/01/2026 13:49

@LesserSpottedCharacter we don’t like it on the Emmerdale thread either, we’d like the sport moved to a different channel. They’d still get the viewing figures and we’d still get our soaps

I feel sorry for Pauline McLynn tbh ( Ma Driscoll ) she must read what people are saying about her ( I’m not on twitter / X or anywhere else but I’m sure people are saying the same about her all over social media. She was so loved as Mrs Doyle. I know it’s not her fault, she’s just playing a part the script writers want, but I’m starting to feel sorry for her.

zanahoria · 22/01/2026 13:52

I felt a bit sorry for the woman played Becky.

It was her big break on TV but she must have just picked up those scripts and cried, nobody could acted that stuff

I agree. I loved her as Mrs Doyle and was really looking forward to her being in Corrie, but it has been a big disappointment. Her character reminds me of an Aunt of mine (who I really dislike), so it’s even more jarring when she’s onscreen!

The random way yesterday's episode opened, the ludicrous drunk scenes, Lauren's inexplicably sulky work persona and the music at the end made the whole thing seem a bit like a dream sequence.

Lauren's behaviour almost made me feel sorry for Ma Driscoll but not sure how that tiny girl is meant to change a barrel!

eggandonion · 22/01/2026 15:28

Would Roy be the kind of person to split his estate between Nina and Hayleys son? Although I imagine Roy would also leave something to the bats.
I wish Mary's awful son who wasn't a Marine biologist and his wife who seemed nice would return. Or Mary could go to live with them...

I totally forgot that Mary had a son! I think she must have forgotten too because she doesn’t seem to mention him 😂. Didn’t he work in aquarium on the till or something like that?

Middlemarch123 · 22/01/2026 15:43

I remember Hayley’s son. He worked in a record shop. Becky was working at Roy’s and she helped Hayley find him. Hayley saw him secretly, because she didn’t want Roy to know, she felt guilty because Roy thought he was Hayley’s first. Anyway when Hayley talked to her son she lied and said she was his aunt. She then told him the truth, and he went mad and beat Hayley up. Then he disappeared, and Hayley went off to work for a charity in Africa. As you do.

Also, can’t stand Ma Driscoll, she doesn’t work, if she’s sending up the character, she’s failing. If she’s supposed to be a genuine character, she’s extremely poor.

Love Tracey too. Channeling Grandma Blanche’s great one liners.
And Swain is dreadful. Poor actress.

Oh yes. He said he was a marine biologist. Wasn't he and/or his wife South African but they both had Manc accents? Grin

She was another teen mum

zanahoria · 22/01/2026 16:47

Ma Driscoll was bad enough before the flashback but now we know there is going to be loads more nonsense so I dread the inevitable return of the other brother

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2026 17:33

I suppose that the actors can only work with the scripts they have and being in a long running drama is lucrative work. I didn’t think that the Carla actress looked convinced by them being together!

Shellingbynight · 22/01/2026 17:57

I don't think Carla has looked convinced about it from the start! And Vicky Myers is such a weak actress, they have no chemistry at all.

Ma Driscoll is getting some poor scenes but her delivery hams it up into pure panto.

RenoDakota · 22/01/2026 18:48

I really hope that Roy isn't being scammed. But that text message he sent 'Alice' was perfectly done by the writers, with its formality and politeness and sort of Roy-ness.

NCTDN · 22/01/2026 19:03

What did the text say?

RenoDakota · 22/01/2026 19:35

NCTDN · 22/01/2026 19:03

What did the text say?

I had to rewind the tv and get up closer to read it. It was a sweet but formal invitation to attend some sort of bat preservation meeting, signed off 'Roy Cropper (Roy)'. Heavily paraphrasing there.
'Her' reply was short and a bit giddy, along the lines of 'Sorry I haven't replied sooner!' And something about some drama at the book club re (author's name - can't remember which one). No mention of the bat meeting with either a yes or a no.
