It's snowy, chilly, January (2026.) CORONATION STREET THREAD. **No spoilers please.**

SabreIsMyFave · 09/01/2026 22:12

The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. Smile (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew. Flowers

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon. Smile

I wonder if Jodie could be Clayton’s long lost (and never mentioned) twin?

suburburban · 16/01/2026 08:04

I’m glad Todd stood strong about reading out the eulogy and went out away from Theo.

do you think he is beginning to twig that Theo is constantly putting him down

suburburban · 16/01/2026 08:06

HaddyAbrams · 15/01/2026 23:37

I don't think Todd thought he was literally responsible for Billy's death, but if they hadn't left early then they wouldn't have been caught up in the crash. Unless ive missed something.

RE Google saying Carl was born to Bill and Elaine, until today we thought he was. So whoever updates these things just hasn't updated it yet.

The others on bus also wanted to go though

very unrealistic that the other passengers didn’t help Billy escape the bus

Shellingbynight · 16/01/2026 09:01

@SabreIsMyFave I think the previous Carl info was AI which is always out of date on soaps (sometimes by years!) Corrie wiki tends to be up to date

https://coronationstreet.fandom.com/wiki/Carl_Webster

It is not impossible that Debbie is the mother, but the history of it doesn't really make sense. Debbie was 18, why would she give up the baby to her father. If she didn't want it, why not have a termination? When Elaine left Bill, why didn't she leave Carl with him? She didn't like Carl and wasn't related to him.

Carl Webster

Carl Webster is introduced as the scheming son of Bill and Elaine Webster, and younger half-brother of Kevin and Debbie. However it is later revealed that Debbie is Carl’s birth mother. Born in Germany in 1986, Carl grew up away from his siblings and d...

Has Todd now realised he's not responsible for Billy's death after hearing that news report on the car radio about Debbie being the drunk driver who was responsible for the death of a local vicar? His reaction was quite extreme.

I don't know if it was meant to be a significant part of the storyline or just the sheer headfuck of what Theo has put him through. I thought I was going out of my mind towards the end of my abusive marriage, I thought that was what he was feeling, as he is starting to see the light.

Shellingbynight · 12/01/2026 21:53

@SabreIsMyFave I'll have a go😆
Costello and Becky were investigating a big crime gang, and they appropriated some (all?) of money from the gang. Costello bought a house, Becky paid off her mortgage and went on holidays. The crime gang realised Becky had ripped them off and came after her, so she pretended she was dead, in collusion with Costello.

You know the rest, all the absolutely bollox when she undeaded herself. The end.

If that’s the case, why weren’t the gang after Costello as well?

Yes that's what I think.

Just going back to last night's Corrie. Megan saying she was having to shag Daniel, to keep the heat off the fact she and Will are an item. Grim. 💀

I noticed that!

I think Todd’s reaction is down to the abuse he’s experiencing coupled with his grief. I think he knows that he’s not responsible for Billy’s death, and he recognises that Theo is trying to gaslight him.

Or maybe that’s wishful thinking.

I do hope so. Theo is evil!!! Hmm

Didn't Todd say to Theo a few episodes ago, maybe it was when they were doing wishes for the new year, 'I'd like you to stop being horrible to me'?

Shellingbynight · 16/01/2026 12:23

@NCTDN I've no idea, I didn't write this rubbish😆

I think Todd’s reaction in the car was mostly to the loss of Billy, added to his current loathing of Theo. I am sure he wants to dump him but at the moment is completely focussed on Billy’s death and funeral (I loved that he stood up to Theo about the eulogy). There will probably be a showdown at/after the funeral.

Yes it is way beyond 'cover', she just enjoys torturing the lad.

zanahoria · 16/01/2026 13:04

We got rid of Becky during Corrie dale but it has been used as an excuse to keep dragging out two other long running plots. Todd was on the verge of ditching Theo and even more absurdly we had the video evidence against Carl that has somehow disappeared. Surely it would still have been on the laptop even if Kev had got the wrong file at the time?

Shellingbynight · 15/01/2026 21:49

My mother was an unmarried mother in 1957. It really was NOT any kind of problem by the 1980s. So I find Debbie being Carl's mother ridiculous although I realised it was coming. To make it worse, Elaine, who was in not directly related to him and apparently disliked him, took him with her when she left Bill. It stinks of retrofitting the facts.

Anyway... Debbie you are an idiot, protecting that weasel Carl. I love Debbie but I am finding it hard to have any sympathy with her on this score. Carl does not give a shit about her.

I love Debbie’s flat though, it’s so absolutely Debbie.

I remember the other solicitor, Imran, wore a wig in court because he was a solicitor advocate. Was DeeDee as well, ISTR her wearing a wig in court? Presumably Adam has invisibly done the exams to become one too, without anyone ever mentioning it.

Some of the comments around Will’s graffiti were quite funny. Will himself is just so unpleasant, they have written this really badly.

Every time I see Summer and Todd it makes me feel quite tearful about Billy. Who I didn’t even particularly like!

(I agree it is a bit daft that many of us often watch earlier than 8.30 and have to wait until then to post about it, but it's Sabre's thread and her decision. We could start a spoiler thread, but I think it would be a shame to split it.)

It absolutely was still a problem in the 80s.

Shellingbynight · 16/01/2026 14:35

There may have been issues but the 80s really was nothing like the 50s. By the 80s women had far more options.

In the 50s there was no legal abortion. There was no Pill.

In the 80s there was legal abortion. And the Pill, which became available to unmarried women in 1974.

Debbie was 18. It was 1986. Having a baby she didn't want and giving it to her father to bring up makes little sense. If she'd been 14 I'd probably believe it.

TheHillIsMine · 16/01/2026 15:28

Shona had her son when she was 13. I suppose it's possible she had another one soon after.

eggandonion · 16/01/2026 15:33

In the 1980s I knew various people who got married with babies on the way. By the early 1990s when I had babies midwives were talking about partners instead of husbands . And I don't remember anyone having shotgun weddings after 1998.

NCTDN · 16/01/2026 15:36

The hospital tag for Carl was from Germany so he was definitely born over there.

thenightsky · 16/01/2026 15:38

My DD1 was born in 1986. There was a 14 year old on the labour ward with me. Her 14 year old boyfriend used to visit in his school uniform with both sets of grandparents.

HaddyAbrams · 16/01/2026 15:41

I know a couple whose parents made them give up their 1st baby in the 80s as they were "too young" and it would never last. They're still together, married now. 2 more children, 3 grandchildren and the first baby got in contact a few years ago.

Housewife2010 · 16/01/2026 16:01

Maybe Debbie was in denial re the baby until it was too late for an abortion? Maybe Elaine really wanted her own baby & wasn't able to, so offered to adopt Carl? It doesn't make sense that he grew up in Germany but has a Manchester accent, but Bethany brought a Manchester accent back after growing up in Milan!

Housewife2010 · 16/01/2026 16:04

13 year old girls should really be locked up or on compulsory contraception in Coronation Street (even if they don't currently live there but are destined to one day!) Sarah, Fay, Amy (was she 13?) & now Shona.

Shellingbynight · 16/01/2026 16:18

TheHillIsMine · 16/01/2026 15:28

You mean Shona could have had Jodie after Clayton?
No, Shona said she left home with Clayton soon after she had him, at which point she told Jodie 'she would be back'. So Jodie is a few years older than Clayton. Clayton is now 25.
