The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew.

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon.

My mother was an unmarried mother in 1957. It really was NOT any kind of problem by the 1980s. So I find Debbie being Carl's mother ridiculous although I realised it was coming. To make it worse, Elaine, who was in not directly related to him and apparently disliked him, took him with her when she left Bill. It stinks of retrofitting the facts.

Anyway... Debbie you are an idiot, protecting that weasel Carl. I love Debbie but I am finding it hard to have any sympathy with her on this score. Carl does not give a shit about her.

I remember the other solicitor, Imran, wore a wig in court because he was a solicitor advocate. Was DeeDee as well, ISTR her wearing a wig in court? Presumably Adam has invisibly done the exams to become one too, without anyone ever mentioning it.

Some of the comments around Will’s graffiti were quite funny. Will himself is just so unpleasant, they have written this really badly.

Every time I see Summer and Todd it makes me feel quite tearful about Billy. Who I didn’t even particularly like!

(I agree it is a bit daft that many of us often watch earlier than 8.30 and have to wait until then to post about it, but it's Sabre's thread and her decision. We could start a spoiler thread, but I think it would be a shame to split it.)

I'd like the thread to stay as no spoilers before the live transmission too. I watched it earlier today, but it was no problem for me not to chat on here about the plot afterwards.

Hmmmm, interesting... I wonder if they would have 2 storylines running parallel? Debbie and Carl being mother and son, and Shona and Jodie being mother and daughter??? Shona doesn't look heaps older than Jodie, but she could be 13-15 years older.

The actress who plays Jodie is 28, and the actress who plays Shona is 40. So even though the 2 actresses have a 12 year age gap, they could easily make it a 14-15 year age gap in the show, and Shona could have had Jodie in her early teens. Unlikely this will go down this route though, not with already doing it with Debbie and Carl...

I can’t figure out what the significance was of Tim’s older woman/grooming storyline and then bringing Will and Megan in. It must be due to click together somehow down the line, or it would be a weird parallel storyline.

Didn't they mention today though that Shona left not long after having Clayton? She promised Jodie she'd be back. So if she had Clayton at 13/14, Jodie must have been 4+ when she left.

My guess is when the Will and Megan thing gets exposed it will make Tim realise that the same thing happened to him and it actually wasn’t harmless as he currently thinks about his own situation.

Good point about Kevin! Did his dad move to Germany when Debbie was possibly young - before she had Carl? Because I have this vague memory when Kevin’s dad was in Corrie that he had come from Germany to the street? And it would have been pre-social media and keeping in constant contact if that was the case.

Although now I’ve said that - Carl has a Manchester accent so that wouldn’t make sense! So how could Debbie have had him without Kevin noticing?

Thanks @Shellingbynight I guess the 'watching it a few hours before it's broadcast' thing has only just started really. I think only in December this started ... I could be wrong. But that's when I noticed it.

I think we should stick to how it's always been, if that's OK with everyone. Just discussing it after it's been broadcast. It would be frustrating if it was available say, 3-4 days before, (on ITVX,) and we couldn't talk about it for 3-4 days, but hopefully people are OK to wait til later in the day when it's broadcast.

And yeah it seems a shame to split the thread into this one, and a spoiler one.

JMO. Hope everyone is OK with this. I first began starting the Coronation Street threads about a year ago, as the previous poster who did it was not available for a while I think. And the poster who did it before used to have it 'no spoilers' too, so I just kinda followed on.

I think it did come up (recently) that Shona was 13 when she had Clayton, so her character must be 38, as Clayton is meant to be 25 now.

So I doubt they will have her being the mother of Jodie, as she would have had 2 babies between 12 and 15!

There is absolutely nothing athletic about Will he’s quite stocky plods along as he walks. Surely they could have got someone more athletically built lean and quite fit especially given Megan is shagging him. It’s totally unrealistic that a pretty girl like her would go for an awkward cumbersome miserable teen such as him! Someone like the original younger James Bailey would have been more relatable.

@Empress13 I agree. I can't see why Megan has gone for Will.

Found this which might clear things up

• Carl is Kevin’s younger half-brother, born in 1986 in Germany to Bill Webster and his second wife, Elaine after Bill and Elaine moved there.
• After his parents split when Carl was about nine, he lived mainly with his mother in Germany, meaning he grew up apart from Kevin and Debbie and didn’t know Kevin well.
• Carl only met Kevin and Debbie in person decades later (in the show in 2025), i.e., he grew up essentially separate from them

✔️ Kevin was raised in Weatherfield in the UK by Bill (and his mother until her death).
✔️ Carl grew up mostly overseas in Germany with his mother, separated from Kevin and Debbie by many years and miles.

So while they are half-brothers biologically, they were not raised together and grew up largely apart until Carl’s later arrival in the series.

Because she’s a paedophile. Everything that we see as unappealing are his child-like qualities really. When he arrived he was underage and we have no idea how long it’s been going on. 🤮

Has Todd now realised he's not responsible for Billy's death after hearing that news report on the car radio about Debbie being the drunk driver who was responsible for the death of a local vicar? His reaction was quite extreme.

I'm probably quite wrong about Shona being Jodie's mum although age wise it's possible. Too many unrealistic stories running just now and whatever secret Jodie has we'll get to know at some point.

When she first appeared in the hospital it was Shona who looked shocked. Some secrets about to be revealed anyway 🙄

Because Debbie is Carl's mum.

So how come Bill and Elaine had Carl in Germany? I mean, Carl wasn't born to them as Debbie is his mum. And surely Bill isn't the father (Debbie and Kevin's dad!) As a pp said, it does happen, but that would be a dark storyline.....

I can only surmise they adopted him off Debbie? But then surely Kevin would have known? Or did Debbie move away for a while and keep the pregnancy a secret from Kevin?

Still so many questions.

I don't think Todd thought he was literally responsible for Billy's death, but if they hadn't left early then they wouldn't have been caught up in the crash. Unless ive missed something.

RE Google saying Carl was born to Bill and Elaine, until today we thought he was. So whoever updates these things just hasn't updated it yet.
