It's snowy, chilly, January (2026.) CORONATION STREET THREAD. **No spoilers please.**

SabreIsMyFave · 09/01/2026 22:12

The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. Smile (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew. Flowers

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon. Smile

Maybe time to stop saying ' no spoilers' and allow posts before the sacred 830pm timeslot when it airs on ITV??
Noticed posters are increasingly keen to discuss the show from early morning since new year.
Corrie is widely available from 7am Mon-Fri on various platforms and is just a quick 30 minute watch. It is 2026...not the 1980s😂Maybe need to go with the flow?

JewelleryCat · 15/01/2026 18:37

Some people like to watch when it actually happens still at 8.30pm and chat when it is broadcast. I know I do that with Emmerdale when it’s on at 8pm and sometimes do when Corrie is broadcast at 8.30pm

If posters want to discuss before the broadcast, they’re more than welcome to do a Coronation Street spoiler thread like there is one for Emmerdale to discuss there

It’s not very fair on the people who can’t watch it in the day time for whatever reason, but can check mumsnet for a bit in their lunch break. The OP should get to decide if spoilers are allowed - and it clearly states no spoilers. If you want to create a spoilers thread you should create your own like the Eastenders thread.

SabreIsMyFave · 15/01/2026 18:59

Yes, fair comment ...This is a no spoilers thread. I understand that a few people do watch Corrie in the morning - as soon as it's on ITVX. (Indeed, I do watch it myself before it's broadcast now and again,) but a couple of times, someone has spilt out what happened. (Including today.)

If people would be so kind as to not mention anything about Corrie until after it has been broadcast, (like, after 9pm) it would be appreciated. Smile (Sorry, I don't want to be a bossy moo, but understandably some people are getting a bit miffed by it.)

Thanks everyone ... 😘

Err no. I have zero time to watch during the day. I work and have kids to sort. Don’t care if you think it’s just a quick 30 minute episode. You are free to start your own thread for the 7 am crowd.

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2026 19:02

I started a spoiler thread for Eastenders and once people were on board with it , it took off. One of the regular contributors we have start a new one when it’s full and it works well for the early watchers and those who like to post upcoming spoilers from social media or magazines. It works well and leaves the non spoiler thread to be for those who don’t like them or only watch at the time it’s on tv.
It may work for you Corrie watchers on telly addicts.

Well, you do make a good point to be honest. I do wonder why a 28-30 year old woman would want to be with any 15-16 year old schoolboy though. What have they got in common? Apart from the obvious. Although I can't envisage a young person that age being super good in bed! And as you say, he is being groomed, and she should know better. It's disgusting what she's doing ....

.

Edited

They could have explored that a bit more but they were introduced as characters with the affair already ongoing.

Did Meghan say anything to Will about Daniel being bashed over the head?

It must have been obvious to her that he did it.

I agree - please keep as no spoilers. I have watched tonight’s already to wile away the time over a pile of ironing but will come back here after 9pm to discuss (if there’s anything to discuss of course!!)
If folks want to chat 12-hours early, then maybe a separate thread? And us after 9-ers, can drop in after 9 😜

SabreIsMyFave · 15/01/2026 21:02

Sooo, has everyone seen tonight's???? Shock

That ending................................... 😱

HaddyAbrams · 15/01/2026 21:05

I watched it at lunch time. I was somehow shocked, but at the same time thought it was really predictable.
Did the wrist band say Carl was born in 1986? I couldn't see it properly.

Yes I think it did

HaddyAbrams · 15/01/2026 21:08

I just googled and he was. I thought he was older than me. But no.

JohnBullshit · 15/01/2026 21:20

It's still a bit jarring for me. I know someone in my extended family who was in her 40s when she found out her birth mother was actually her older sister, but she was born in the early 60s. 1986 is a bit late for that kind of subterfuge, isn't it?

GrillaMilla · 15/01/2026 21:23

Wasn't expecting that at all

Can't work out what Shona's sister is up to either

Hmmm, it is a bit. It seems more like a thing that was pre 1970 moreso. I knew quite a few families where a teenage girl's mum took on the baby when her daughter became pregnant in her teens, and she told everyone she was the mother. (Then raised the child as her own...)

Many people these days think their great aunt, or great gran had a baby (or more than one) in her late 40s or 50s! In actual fact, in the majority of cases, it was the grandchild(ren) that she passed off as her own. They never spoke about it but many people knew. By the time the child was in their 20s, most of them found out, not least because their 'mum' would have been 54 when they were born. (So they kind of worked it out.) If they didn't work it out, someone would tell them.

If Carl has a different mum to Debbie and Kevin, (which she has, as Carl kept going on about 'his' mum dying,) then I'm a bit confused as to why Debbie's baby (Carl) that she had at around 17-18, was given to another woman and not Debbie and Kevin's mother IYSWIM. And who is the father of Carl? It can't be Debbie and Kevin's dad. That's just too dark for words, as Debbie would have had the baby (Carl) by her father!!!!

Ouch. 😖 My head hurts now!

I think it was still frowned upon to be an unmarried mother in the 80's, I remember a few girls my age getting pregnant and there being 'shame', plenty of homophobia and sexism too in that decade

I agree. I assume maybe there are issues around who the father is maybe? Maybe that’s why she felt she couldn’t keep him. It does seem odd for the times. And wouldn’t it have made Debbie very late teens, possibly early 20s, so quite a normal age for a mum at the time too.

Yeah she wouldn't have been bizarrely young, I have just googled and she was born 1968 (Debbie) and so would have been 18.

I think the father will be Terry Duckworth.

Shona’s sister ( is it Jodie ? ) is so dodgy.
Shona had a baby young too then. It was that previously known about ?

Nevermind17 · 15/01/2026 21:45

How do you get to the age of nearly 40 without ever having seen your birth certificate? He must have a passport.

HaddyAbrams · 15/01/2026 21:47

Maybe rather than it being that Debbie couldn't/ wasn't allowed to keep the baby due to society/ her family, could she have decided that she wasn't ready but for whatever reason didnt have a termination?

Alternatively, whilst her own father being Carl's Father is gross, it does happen.

Myrealnameisbetty · 15/01/2026 21:48

What is the age difference between Shona and Jodie? Yes they look like sisters. They also look like mother and daughter. 🫤

nildesparandum · 15/01/2026 21:48

A long time ago this was very common in families to hide the shame, but not so much in the 80s.
My paternal grandfather was brought up thinking his mother was his oldest sister. She was the oldest child in a large family the youngest was just two years old when my grandfather was born.He was unofficially adopted by his mother's parents, and never found out who his biological father was. I remember my mother had a friend who became an unmarried mother in the 1940s when she was in her late teens. Her parents brought her son up as their own.
