I saw one the other day that was very thought-provoking.

Dancing back to the light - it is about Steven McRae, a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, his catastrophic injury & rehabilitation, and his eventual return to the stage. A real eye-opener, and an insight into just how increditbly hard ballet dancers have to work, and how strong they have to be. His wife and kids are a delight in the programme too.

Touching the void … it’s gripping

Escaping Utopia on BBC. A 3 part series about a religious cult in NZ/India and people trying to leave it. There a lot of fascinating clips from 20/30 years ago and then the children and adults shown in those clips telling the behind the scenes truth about what actually went on.

Touching the Void is fantastic, also Tinder Swindler.

The Remarkable Life of Ibelin on Netflix

I'm definitely not a gamer but this helped me understand what it can be about. It's really emotional.

Last Breath - the original documentary.
Three identical Strangers
Man on Wire

Three Identical Strangers left me with my mouth hanging open.

kiwiblue · 21/03/2025 20:09

The Last Breath, as someone else said. It's really well made.

I love Drive to Survive!

I just watched the Kitty Genovese documentary The Witness where her brother interviews people who were present when she was murdered.
It was a big news story at the time and has remained a kind of shameful parable about apathy and the reluctance of strangers to intervene when someone is in trouble. So much of the story was apparently misrepresented by both the police and media, it's an eye opener and very moving.

I personally watch Nile Rodgers in concert anywhere to lift my spirits.

I watched rain in my heart about 5 years ago and it still upsets me. Very good quality documentary, just such a sad topic

That sounds like something I'd get absorbed into. Will have to start making a list after reading this thread.

Just watched the Twister documentary film about the town in Missouri which was destroyed in a tornado. Lots of first hand accounts and footage.

Capturing the Friedmans which is about a farher and son in the states being investigated for child abuse. It's hugely compelling and disturbing. It's available on Now / Sky.
