I've just watched today's episode and have realised the new Mitchell's aren't working for me. Laura Doddington (Nicola) is doing the best she can, but there's no layers to her character and the writing for the others in the clan is also one-dimensional. They're dragging the show down.

Maybe the new Mitchell clan will have the whole sorry saga of Shireen up until the autumn and then all leave!
I hope Barney stays on , although it’ll probably go bad with Avida and he’ll become all depressed and unhappy too :(
I used to look forwards to watching it early doors, but it’s been a bit depressing lately and although it’s been good with Phil and Nigel , we know that won’t be a happy ending, so more misery there.
They need a bit of a feel good storyline with someone and not just Mo and Kim for any ‘ light relief’ or jokes.
Something a bit more cheerful.

The only character’s wardrobe I envy is Chelsea. She always looks immaculate and her hair is on point which I suppose makes sense when your mum runs a salon (that she never works in!). I do chuckle at the fact she manages these expensive clothes as a single mum working evenings in a bar but I suppose she has Dee and the rest of the family to help.

I agree that Chelsea is always immaculate and well turned out. She hasn’t been in it much lately , but most single mums with a child only working odd hours wouldn’t have the money for such lovely coats etc. She is very trendy.
The salon is hardly seen either. I think that Dee only goes there occasionally when she remembers it’s actually hers to open up! Then they tend to only have one customer in it.
The business rates for a place like that must be thousands in that area too, but it clearly runs itself

They were never going to let Nigel commit suicide, what sort of message would that send. I also highly doubt he would have been able to carry it out.

Nigel is right, Phil has no idea how bad it will get. I can believe Phil’s motivation but when Nigel deteriorates he will not be able to cope although obviously there will be a convenient death before we get to the later stages Nigel was talking about. (I loved that Phil was considering ‘the best’ care home - I hope he has a spare £6k a month dropping out of that magic money tree.)

I haven’t seen today’s yet but I agree with you South. The new Mitchells do not work at all, they have no depth or interest.

£6k a month would be pocket change to Phil. Although it’s a mystery how he makes his money since he sold/gave away all his businesses.

Phil certainly never has money problems and he doesn't have much to spend it on now! Which was the business he gave to Nigel, was it the gym? They did say, after Phil's return, that Nigel had given it back to him. I have lost track with the Arches, but Phil must at least part-own it as he had the keys last night?

Phil has a magic safe.

He doesn't need to work. Money just appears.

I thought that Harry owned the arches , but why would Phil have keys ? Sometimes I find it’s best to just not think too much about this soap as it will drive you mad ! 😆

I thought Phil gave Harry a job as mechanic but I could be wrong.

I was also a bit confused as to how Phil thought Nigel would have got into the Arches. Phil picked up the keys so clearly Nige hadn't taken them.

Oh you’re right, Harry works at The Archers but Phil still owns it. Looks like Kojo has a job there too in typical EE style. Rocks up, no interview, just “I used to work on cars in Ghana”.

I think Nigel actually gave the gym back to Phil as well. Plus he has the money from the sale of Peggy’s and whatever on-going criminal stuff he does. He must be mortgage free by now. So just basic bills, subsidising lazy Louise in Portugal and maintenance for Albie and Raymond.

Yes Phil must be rolling in it, with the sale of Peggy's (which was a big mistake, Nic should not own that bar).

It gives me brain ache! I think I do it to distract myself too , it’s easier than wondering about real life !.. lol
agree that Kojo getting a job just like that is a bit like the 70s ! They have never moved on with recruitment on EE have they. Where’s all the hoops you need to go through ? All airbrushed away on soaps land where you land jobs straight away!

this week alone Ross and Kojo got a job and Zack got sacked

I wonder if Zac could take her to a tribunal? She just hires and fires at will that one !

Nic doesn't give me the feeling of a character who will be around for too long, I hope she's jailed but I wouldn't mind seeing her buried under someone's floor. I hope Phil gets the club back.

Once Nigel is no longer with us, I think Phil will get back into business with someone. The club would be perfect for him tbh. He must be partners with Sharon and the gym still I think ? Especially as Nige didn’t want it.

The Barney actor has a huge IQ apparently , in the 1 percent bracket apparently. A clever lad.

What’s the betting that Kojo will work a short while at the arches, I’m guessing on minimum wage, then miraculously be able to afford his own place. Actually I’m so bored today, I’ve just looked in that area and the cheapest place was £995 pcm for a tiny studio, so it’s a no go. Maybe lots of people will move in with Lauren etc into Dot’s old house. I need a hobby.

When Kojo arrived he was scared and sometimes aggressive, and dependent on relatives to take care of him. Now he's magically a mechanic and is going to live independently. And no one seems bothered he came over for a holiday and overstayed and is now working. He wants somewhere quiet to live but realistically all he could afford would be a noisy HMO.

Kojo will get a place of his own, no problem. Either one of Jack’s flats or another one will miraculously be available and no-one will mention the actual rent as it’s all so unfeasible. In real life he would need payslips, bank account etc.

I know they are trying to turn Nicola into a Nasty Nick character, but she is a bit too Nasty isn't she?

I'm not keen on the family either. Not very likeable characters apart from Barney, but I don't get on with his acting style. I think the actress who plays Nicola is good, but the character needs a bit more development. I quite liked the bunny boiler tendencies. I think the writers will keep Barney and write the rest of em out, or just keep the kids.

Junior isn't doing much either, but I suppose he is getting dragged into this and will probably end up shagging Nicola and being blackmailed into keeping quiet about the body. Very predictable EE blackmail storyline there.

Yes, the Kojo story is ridiculous.
I do like him, but it’s another unrealistic scenario
