Eurovision 2025

We have had Super Saturday, A good dozen songs are confirmed.

We have controversy in the song from Malta and the Maltese word for singing. Essentially the whole of Finland’s song is arguably even more controversial. Ireland are singing about the Russian dog sent to space in the 50s. Our band has possibly been leaked as a country girl group. Mans might be back for Sweden.

Anyone getting excited yet? Any opinions on the songs so far?

I'm disappointed by Norway this year. My tagline for Norway at Eurovision is 'never knowingly normal'. They're always willing to take risks usually, and Keiino were freaking robbed.

I think this stage is always tricky. There tends to be a lot of dross out early doors. As much as I love Mans, I don't want a return to Sweden so soon. If not least because I want it to go somewhere affordable!

OublietteBravo · 22/02/2025 21:16

Måns appears to have decided that singing inside a malfunctioning shredder is the optimum Eurovision staging. I actually preferred Kaj tonight. (I can totally imagine Norway sending Kaj to Eurovision, but not Sweden).

OublietteBravo · 22/02/2025 21:19

Portugal up to 5th in the odds. I’m not followed Festival de Canção at all - But I often like the Portuguese entry. (The exception was 2017 - I still skip Amar Pelos dois every time Spotify brings it up).

Italy's entry (Sanremo version).

I really like this.

Iceland has chosen this Jedwardesque number as their entry.

I'm really excited to see Lucio Corsi for Italy as his song pulled at my heartstrings whereas Olly's was just ... pleasant enough. I think there's scope for some great staging as Lucio's music videos with Tommaso Ottomano (on stage with him at Sanremo) are great. A hint of glam rock at Eurovision? Something I didn't dare hope for! 🙈

Agree, I absolutely love this.

I hadn't followed Sanremo so only saw Olly's performance after he won and was underwhelmed. This is just so much better and feels really authentic. Love the guitars at the end.

I think I am becoming a prude but why can’t we have some good clean fun with Eurovision? Malta and Finland are pushing the boundaries and now we have Australia which comes over dodgy to me. Maybe I just have a dirty mind and it’s fine.

I am liking Bara Bada Bastu on a more positive note but I can’t imagine Sweden won’t chose Revolution.

OublietteBravo · 25/02/2025 19:42

I love Bara Bada Bastu! It’s the sort of song that Moldova would take to Eurovision and finish top 5. It’s such a shame that Sweden are likely to pick generic pop over this. I also prefer On and On and On (Klara Hammarström) to Revolution (Måns). But what do I know?

munchbunch12 · 26/02/2025 20:08

My TV guide for next week says on Fri 7th March "The Big Eurovision Party" is showing on BBC1 at 11.40pm. It describes it as a late night party for Eurovision fans and says there'll be stars of the 2025 contest as well as performances from earlier winners.

EurovisionFanGirl · 26/02/2025 21:16

Sounds good. Last year they did something like that on the day the UK released their song so maybe it will be next Friday.

Let's hope so then!

Ireland really has NOTHING redeeming.

The costumes, the graphics, the choreography. Truly fucking terrible.

Now I’m thinking of poor trusting Laika and what people did to her.

This song reminds me a little of a ‘Strictly Ballroom’ scene. The scene when Scott and Fran try to perform, what amounts to little more than a parody of, the Paso Doble in front of Fran’s Spanish family. The family all start laughing, and Fran’s grandmother and father get up to show them how it’s really done; with heart. Only dad and granny haven’t shown up.

EurovisionFanGirl · 03/03/2025 22:25

I have been listening to the songs so far and Germany - Baller is really standing out for me as well as Italy. My favourites are not in English this year which is a change.

I also like Luxembourg, Poland, Lithuania and The Netherlands.

I think we will have nearly all the songs by this time next week.

Jumping on here. We are liking Finland, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Estonia and Azerbaijan. Am interested to see who gets picked for Sweden on 7th, really like KAJ Bara Bada Bastu! To be honest though with the Israel reaction and the protests last year it has spoiled the whole Eurovision vibe for me.

EurovisionFanGirl · 05/03/2025 09:02

Yes the vibe was definitely spoiled last year. Hope it’s better this year but I could well be more of the same. Israel release their song on Sunday and it’s called New Day Will Rise and have already been accused of being too political.

Meanwhile Malta has just been told to censor their song and everyone is blaming the BBC and threatening to boycott the UK entry.

It’s such a shame but I guess where there are people and competition there will be politics.

The Australian entry is so very Australian, hope it qualifies.

Re: Malta - ‘Kant’
if this goes against us, I’ll be fuming. Not our decision- The EBU.

But the EBU had accepted the song originally - sounds like the BBC objected as they would have issues airing it. Still I don't think anyone is super surprised - I was more surprised it was accepted in the first place!

"The Eurovision organizers had first accepted the song in full after it had won the Maltese national selection.

According to TVM, objections came through “a report submitted by an EBU member—understood to be the BBC”.

EurovisionFanGirl · 05/03/2025 20:45

I have seen the argument that the BBC wouldn’t be allowed to broadcast it due to Ofcom rules but wouldn’t be allowed to cut any of the performance due to Eurovision rules.

Austria seems to be one to watch. I like it after a few listens.

UK announcement, first play and interview on Radio 2 at 8am tomorrow.

Austria doesn't surprise me as one to watch. It seems that the route to winning seems to be a couple of years previously of tunes which are up there and worth listening to. Austria has been on my radar for 3 or 4 years of consistency. Austria wouldn't be a bad place to go next year. (Tbf I'm anywhere but Israel on that score).

I love Mans but I've already done Sweden and Stockholm is a bastard to get from direct from Manchester. (I looked last year).

Thanks for the Eurovision tip for TV tomorrow. I take it our entry is officially announced tomorrow?

OublietteBravo · 06/03/2025 16:35

France is still right up there in the betting odds. It will be interesting to hear their entry. They’re another country who have had a run of decent songs of late (at least if you ignore their 2022 entry, I’m not sure the contest was quite ready for something that out there in the Breton language).

LlynTegid · 06/03/2025 16:41

I have long thought it should be on a commercial channel. Or an exception to the BBC and adverts, as they probably would be worth a lot.

Hope those who watch enjoy it.

tennissquare · 07/03/2025 08:01

UK entry being announced in a min on radio 2.
