Eurovision 2025

We have had Super Saturday, A good dozen songs are confirmed.

We have controversy in the song from Malta and the Maltese word for singing. Essentially the whole of Finland’s song is arguably even more controversial. Ireland are singing about the Russian dog sent to space in the 50s. Our band has possibly been leaked as a country girl group. Mans might be back for Sweden.

Anyone getting excited yet? Any opinions on the songs so far?

Not forgetting
"Dancing Lasha Tumbai" Verka Serduchka was second and "Teresa & Maria" Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil was third.

Cracking songs. Memorable.

OublietteBravo · 16/02/2025 20:55

For me brilliant 3rd place songs include:
SloMo - Chanel (2022)
(Cornelia Jacob’s was actually 4th - I loved her song too)
Grande amore - Il Volo (2015)
Undo - Sanna Nielsen (2014)

I agree that 2025 is not shaping up to be a classic Eurovision year. It feels a bit like 2011 to me. That was a weird year (Azerbaijan won, with-Running Scared, Jedward came 8th, Blue came 11th).

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2025 20:57

It's a year that might be vaguely winnable if our entry is actually decent...

(We'll probably have an entry that makes Ireland look good won't we?).

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2025 20:44

Just sat and watched highlights of the entries so far this year.

Oh dear.

Not vintage.

A lot of screeching. I found myself longing for a ballad. Lots that is very samey. Which will split votes.

Malta is going to make the BBC cry. Kant.

Ukraine is the only thing a bit different that was remotely passable. But it's only ok and not a winner.

Ireland. We need a chat about your vocals. And it's giving me Dustin crossed with Scooch vibes. Those costumes. There reaches a point where something is so bad it's good becomes truly terrifyingly awful and really is just BAD. Somehow you've nailed this. Congratulations.

Ireland. Nothing showcases Irish music like a Norwegian singing about the Russian Space Programme. She really needs a cape and a silly prop to complete the Eurovision bingo card.

OublietteBravo · 16/02/2025 21:01

And what is going on with Estonia? Singing about coffee in bad anglicised Italian!

EurovisionFanGirl · 16/02/2025 21:01

I think each year there are only one or two songs that are really memorable and we haven’t had half the songs yet from 2025 so it is too early to worry. I have my Eurovision ultimate playlist with 44 songs on it but that covers 68 years. Love them all and it grows a bit each year but most Eurovision songs aren’t going be classics.

My DD says that Ireland's entry is Eurovision by numbers and not in a good way. And it's very behind the times.

With a map of Iceland as part of the staging to complete the effect. In fact why not just have Will Ferrell jump out halfway through shouting 'surprise'!?

@RedToothBrush - Have you listened to Greece’s entry ? - beautiful, dramatic ballad sung in her native language .
Recommended . 🇬🇷😍

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2025 21:14

Ireland really has NOTHING redeeming.

The costumes, the graphics, the choreography. Truly fucking terrible.

The clip I saw was one of the better songs, but it didn't jump out either. Potentially the full version is better. I hope so.

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2025 21:20

Oh and the lyrics and vocals are a bad rip off of Keiino Spirit in the Sky.

Yiayoula · 16/02/2025 21:54

Just enjoyed rewatching Spirit in the Sky , thanks for the reminder !

It was genuinely the best on the night, and that's down to the Irish artists not delivering.

The big favourite was Bobbi Arlo with Powerplay, which is a fantastic song, but she just couldn't sell it live. The staging concept was very amateur and she barely sang and relied far too much on the backing track. A real shame as the song had potential.

I didn't like Laika Party going into Eurosong, but ended up voting for it. It's very catchy, Emmy is likeable and it's a bit out there. Possibly fishing in the same type of voter pool as Subwolfer, I think if the staging really plays up the space theme we have a chance of qualifying and then getting destroyed by the juries in the final. Which I'd take right now 😂

Remember the Irish final is really low budget, I would expect significant improvements to the staging by May.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 16/02/2025 22:14

I agree with @DirectionToPerfection
I voted for this one as it was the best on the night. DD wasn't there so missed it. She would have voted for Bobbi Arlo.

WelkomInEuropaJonguh · 20/02/2025 07:52

A clip of Måns' song has been released (along with the other songs for this week's Melodifestivalen heat) here -
www.svtplay.se/video/89d5dZ7/melodifestivalen-tjuvlyssna-pa-latarna/6-mans-zelmerlow-revolution

I'm not a big fan of previous winners coming back and, to be honest, I'd prefer some new voices to have the chance instead. 🤷🏼

WelkomInEuropaJonguh · 20/02/2025 07:58

Re. Laika Party, DH reminded me that there has already been a attempt to get a Laika song to Eurovision and, weirdly, it was Norwegian.

It was from Melodi Grand Prix 2016 and I prefer it to this year's effort. Sorry, Emmy!

EurovisionFanGirl · 20/02/2025 14:36

I think it has been released on New Zealand.

Hmm - not sure that link works

But I have heard it. Sounds good to me but will have to give it some time. It may not win in Sweden anyway.

I quite like the studio version of Poland’s song. I played the Spotify list of the 2025 songs released so far, and that’s the one that I remember.

EurovisionFanGirl · 22/02/2025 16:10

Italy are having the person who came second in their competition. I have had a listen and read the translation and I think it’s a good one.

I'm really excited to see Lucio Corsi for Italy as his song pulled at my heartstrings whereas Olly's was just ... pleasant enough. I think there's scope for some great staging as Lucio's music videos with Tommaso Ottomano (on stage with him at Sanremo) are great. A hint of glam rock at Eurovision? Something I didn't dare hope for! 🙈

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 22/02/2025 16:49

I always like the Italian entry.
Thanks for the video!

Is it just Iceland selecting their song this weekend?
