A TV version of the Danny Robins podcast.
Is anyone watching?

Bloody loved it. Especially Danny’s Alan Partridge moment in the wind tunnel 💨💨😫💨💨

Haha, I thought that too 😂

I’m watching the charity shop episode at the moment. It’s a bit judgy of me but I felt I maybe believed Sybil a bit less than others on the show because of her quirky style (loved her outfits though!). She seemed like someone who might enjoy a good ghost story!
this episode reminded me of a shoe shop I worked in years ago: it was in an old regency building and the stockrooms were spooky attics and a cellar! Lots of colleagues saw and felt things….a few saw a lady in a Victorian dress at the back of the children’s department and others felt something touching their back in one of the stockrooms: I never experienced anything though

I felt that same.

I have a friend who Sybil reminds me of very much. The long, dramatic pauses before answering. Saying things with such certainty. With my friend, it's all an act. Everything she says is pre-rehearsed and for dramatic effect, and I got the same vibe from Sybil.

"Do you know his name?"

"We don't, but for some unknown reason....." (then with complete, dramatic certainty) ...."his name's George"

All seemed very rehearsed to me.

I also didn't get the impression it was a charity shop. From the sounds of it it wasn't run by a charity but was more of a vintage clothing shop. Don't suppose it really matters.

I love it.

Ciaran like a tired, sensible dad trying to calm down excitable Danny and Evelyn with their stories!

I love Ciaran. I love his polite, well natured smile whilst listening to Evelyn, and then his very neutral "well, it's interesting, but of course there's no evidence that...." Grin

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2025 09:39

I can't help feeling sorry for the ones who have gone on to buy the house that has a ghost there too!

Yes. The new owners probably insist they keep the address secret for some of them so they don't get gawpers. I wonder if people will start hanging round Crofton to look for the shadow man.
I was wondering if it would turn out the house numbers had changed and it was actually their house where the violent stair pusher man lived, like in an earlier episode.
I was also wondering if it would turn out the violent man had murdered someone at his workplace, Hesketh Park Station, but that didn't happen!

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2025 11:42

During Friday nights one they mentioned that the houses there was once flats , so the numbers were probably changed around at some point or a link to the flat where the girl was pushed.

Yes, the nearest Premier Inn will suddenly find itself unusually busy.

witchycat2 · 23/02/2025 14:07

Did anyone else used to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark? There was an episode called The Tale of the Super Spec about shadow beings in another dimension. I thought of this during the shadow man episode.

OP posts:
MidnightBloom · 23/02/2025 14:54

@witchycat2 not seen that is it like uncanny? Interesting there are other stories about shadow men.

Can anyone recommend other programs to watch that's similar to uncanny. Looking to fill the uncanny empty space.

I used to love Are You Afraid of The Dark I don't remember that episode though.

@MidnightBloom No, Are You Afraid of The Dark was a kids / tweens programme, on Nickelodeon in the late 90s / early 20s. It was about a group of kids called The Midnight Society who gathered around a campfire and told ghost stories.

The only other thing I've seen which is like Uncanny is Most Haunted, but obviously it's years old although I'm sure they'll be available to watch somewhere.

Have you seen Most Haunted?

It's similar to Uncanny in that you don't have to believe to enjoy it for entertainment value, and it's easy to get swept up in their enthusiasm.

Uncanny always reminds me of it when he puts up the uncanny bbc email address and says to email him with your thoughts / stories.

A big part of the fun of Most Haunted was that they would read out text messages and tweets from people live throughout the show: "Betty in Yorkshire says her lights just flickered...... Pete in Aberdeen says he sees an orb right beside Yvette's head.....Pauline and Jim in Skegness heard a massive bang from upstairs just as Derek summoned the spirit"

I'm very much team sceptic but I used to absolutely love all that.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/02/2025 19:49

DH ,DD and I watched some "Most Haunted" last night , the Clerkenwell House of Detention episode .

We were looking up details about it , apparently you can hire out the venue ( WHY ? ) but only up to a set time and there's things you cannot do .
I'd imagine the neighbours don;t want a load of partying going on near them.

I;m not sure I'd want to go there TBH .

DH and I sat in Berkeley Square a couple of years ago watching builders going into number 50 (most haunted house in UK) , I did wonder if they knew the history or did they even care ?

MidnightBloom · 24/02/2025 15:00

@newkettleandtoaster most haunted sounds fun, will see if I can find it to watch on Friday night. I don't remember are you afraid of the dark. I had completely forgotten about Nickelodeon I used to love Keenan and Kel ... who loves orange soda 🤣

@70isaLimitNotaTarget wonder if the builders seen anything 👻

cheezncrackers · 24/02/2025 17:01

I love Uncanny - I've listened to the podcast for ages - but I think it works better as a podcast than a TV programme. I agree that an hour is too long and it would've been better to have the story as one half and the chat as another. Having said that, I do like Ciaran and Evelyn and think they add something important to the show.

I haven't seen the last one yet, but I liked the Charity Shop Ghost and thought Julian's experiences with The Shadow Man sounded terrifying. I actually had a nightmare after that one! I find with a lot of the stories, there is a troubled young person at the centre. I really felt for Julian, who was clearly a really traumatised young man. I also wondered why he didn't move, but I suppose the shadow man followed him around so maybe he thought there wasn't any point and wherever he went it would go too? I do get a bit frustrated though when they gloss over quite important things and don't question enough, like with the priest. WTH was all that about? And how did his Dad die? They just said 'quite suddenly' I think, but in an accident? From a heart attack? Scared to death from messing about with Ouija boards? What?

BusterGroove · 24/02/2025 17:09

I’m not sure if it said how long Julian lived there after his Mum died, but he may have had to wait a long time for probate and the house sale to go through!

LuluBlakey1 · 24/02/2025 18:49

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 22/02/2025 00:35

Absolutely. The obvious explanation. Cats aren’t daft, they’d work out how to get at this lovely new toy/prey. We have cats and we have also on three occasions since moving into this house had a mouse (idiots) come into the house. Each time it’s always been left neatly splayed out in the hallway in front of the front door.

Well........you have assumed it was the cat.......👻

Haha, yeah, it would have been on after Kenan+Kel Grin it was usually the last programme of the evening, around 7pm or something.

Oh you haven't seen Most Haunted?? If you like Uncanny I'd imagine you'd love Most Haunted. There must be 100s of episodes. It was on cable channel Living Tv I think, I'm sure you'll find episodes somewhere.

Ciaran okeefe was the resident sceptic.

Even as a non believer it was fun to get swept up in the drama and excitement of it all, and it could be quite eerie.

Mostly I love thinking of it now for the nostalgia - that feeling when everybody was watching at home and tweeting and texting in Smile

MidnightBloom · 24/02/2025 19:07

@newkettleandtoaster oh it would be good to see cieran in something else. Does he say the same things that he says in uncanny 🤣 I am team on the fence, I would like to believe but need a lot of convincing. I like these fun sort of things to watch along and ponder. That sounds so good that everyone was involved when the episode of most haunted went out.

Have you guys seen the photo Danny has put on Instagram regarding the shadow man? Will see if I can link.

MidnightBloom · 24/02/2025 19:08

Here's the link. I hope

Yes I wanted to know more about the police and the priest visit.

This was very important

Shadow man was a demonic force

Yes, similar thoughts of things, very polite and respectful while pretty much saying he doesn't believe a word of it Grin

They had various psychics / mediums and one of them was a guy called Derek Acorah. I believe it was Ciaran who basically exposed him as a fraud.

The Most Haunted team (Yvette Fielding and her husband) put out a statement saying how disappointed they were because they always acted in good faith.

It was just a lot of anticipation and building of uneasiness and feeding off each others energy and nerves of being in spooky places - they didn't actually set things up or try to make things happen, and in a lot of episodes not very much did happen. So they were disappointed that one of the mediums didn't act in good faith. Ciaran obviously saw through him.

I haven't seen the Shadowman episode, just in from work, hoping to watch it tonight!

MidnightBloom · 25/02/2025 11:21

@newkettleandtoaster crumbs that sounds like a lot of drama 😳 think I will love it 🤣

@KimberleyClark it's probably just Danny and the crew having a laugh. I hope Confused

I didn't click the link and assumed you were talking about this photo and thought well yeah, of course it's a man with another man next to him 😂
