A TV version of the Danny Robins podcast.
Is anyone watching?

I watched on Friday evening and really enjoyed. The orphanage and nuns were truly heartbreaking. The families story about the boy was far fetched for me though. Liam said he wasn't aware of the orphanage or graves in a small village like that, I find that hard to believe.

Yes I'm sure things were exaggerated or embellished for dramatic purposes

I used to go to the school at the top of Holly mount Lane, it is indeed a strange place the school Has a very interesting history it was an orphanage at one point ,and there was a convent facing it
Ww used to think the school was haunted too.

The family would have absolutely known about the orphanage as liams aunt, s went ti Holly mount school (don't know if his dad Jim did) but I remember the girls and we all has to go to the cemetery every year to celebrate mayday. As there was a grotto of Mary.

suburburban · 03/02/2025 19:01

I would think the place held an air of sadness and despair which would carry on

Interesting that you went to school there

MidnightBloom · 03/02/2025 19:35

@x2boys thanks for sharing your interesting information with us. With some uncanny I am on the fence, like the Miss Howard one. This one I think is a made up story.

JiminaSlump · 03/02/2025 19:40

Bloody love Uncanny. Danny reads his own audiobook and it's brilliant (available on Spotify - Into the Uncanny!). I love the homage to Don't Look Know, and I also am completely Team Sceptic but find it all thoroughly enjoyable! And I love the theme song.

I know what I... saaaaaaaaaAAAw

The farm is made out to be in the middle.of knowrhere ,it really isn't, it's in the village of Greenmount ,whilst I can imagine it.used to be quire isolated at night ,during the day it's very busy with school traffic ,they also knocked down the convent and chapel in the early 90,s and built some fancy apartments and there are also a couple of other extremely nice houses on the lane.

MidnightBloom · 03/02/2025 20:02

@x2boys I did wonder why Danny didn't go to the convent.

@JiminaSlump I absolutely love uncanny also Grin I sing the song numerous times a day even got the kids and dh signing it when something goes wrong or especially when the car sensors beep 🤣 I know what . I.... Saaaaaawwww

Whenever I do a mistake at work.. Bloody hell Ken! 🤣

9pm tonight bbci player is anyone watching 👀

Norugratsatall · 07/02/2025 22:15

Yes really enjoyed tonight's! Multiple witnesses too this time though I'm not sure I found them terribly convincing.

ShortWide · 07/02/2025 22:24

Agree the witnesses somehow had less gravitas. Still enjoyed the episode!

suburburban · 07/02/2025 22:26

Yes watching now

MidnightBloom · 07/02/2025 22:52

Good to know that I am not the only mumsneter watching. Really enjoyed tonight although I found Cybill a bit too much almost in the same vain as the girls on love Island if you know what I mean.

KimberleyClark · 07/02/2025 23:22

I found Sybil a bit much too - she looked like a Victorian schoolgirl in that last bit! Also when shades robed what happened when she was shutting up shop, she said she turned the light off in the stockroom and then walked over to the window and then a lamp switched on. Why didn’t she leave the light on if she wasn’t immediately leaving the room?

MidnightBloom · 08/02/2025 00:46

Exactly kimberley Clark she kept contradicting herself then when Danny probed obviously embellished the story.

Ds2 said he dresses like a toddler !
I think he looks ok tbh

He reminds me of Hayley from Coronation Street with the hair and jacket!

What are pull ups?

Bobbieiris · 08/02/2025 10:53

I’m watching the charity shop episode at the moment. It’s a bit judgy of me but I felt I maybe believed Sybil a bit less than others on the show because of her quirky style (loved her outfits though!). She seemed like someone who might enjoy a good ghost story!
this episode reminded me of a shoe shop I worked in years ago: it was in an old regency building and the stockrooms were spooky attics and a cellar! Lots of colleagues saw and felt things….a few saw a lady in a Victorian dress at the back of the children’s department and others felt something touching their back in one of the stockrooms: I never experienced anything though

user2848502016 · 08/02/2025 12:00

I love the podcast! So glad someone started a thread on this 😂

I'm more on the "team sceptic" side but some of the episodes have definitely got me thinking....

Toomuchleopard · 08/02/2025 12:17

My kids went to the school that was the orphanage so that story was really interesting. I also used to keep my caravan at the haunted farm! The school take the kids to visit the nuns graves every year and the nuns are all thought of very fondly so I found the story about mistreating children shocking. My kids have been to the nuns grave several times but they don’t know about the child grave which seems a bit weird now.

The farm is currently being developed into some very expensive houses. Not sure I would want to buy one after that!

I did wonder if she was trying to drum up trade by making the shop a venue for ghost hunters.

I went to the same school in the 70 s and 80,s
Thrre were still some nuns that were teachers when I was there my head teacher waa a nun I'm not sure they wre all thought of fondly! they left in the 90,s when they closed the convent and chapel to build apartments, the orphanage was apparently closed in the early 60,s due to ill treatment of the kids .

suburburban · 08/02/2025 13:08

Yes I wouldn't want to live there either

Toomuchleopard · 08/02/2025 13:52

@x2boys a few years ago they opened a new library at the school and it’s called the Sister James room named after the nun who was the head in the 70s/80s,

Yes I remember her fondley, very strict but fair, and remembered every single child's name that went there even years later if you bumped into her.
