I'm watching on catch up but I just want to reach inside the tv and give Phil a hug.

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 20:16

I am such a girl fan of Steve McFadden !
He really is a true EE legend along with June Brown. Such talent is rare in a soap , but he nailed it today

JMSA · 13/02/2025 20:16

I KNOW I will be in the minority here, but I really don't like these cringey throwback episodes. They do nothing for me, I don't much care about characters of old, and I just want the storylines to return to normal Grin
I groaned when I saw the old opening tune and the blackbird story was a corn-fest.
That said, I'm willing to accept that modern day Phil is smashing it with his acting 👌

Willowback · 13/02/2025 20:17

Oh me too, I was willing Jay to hug him before he went out the door.

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2025 20:18

It was indulgent at times, but it's their anniversary and they get a pass for being sentimental. It certainly made me cry.

JMSA · 13/02/2025 20:19

Jellykat · 13/02/2025 19:45

Come on Jay, Phils just done the weirdest rant ever, and nearly cried.. of course hes not alright!🙄

Totally this!

I really wanted him to tell Phil that he loved him!

Young Nigel looked like Alan Davies.

Steve McFadden really is an under rated actor.

When I saw the old episode about their past I wasn't sure about the young Phil casting, but when you saw them side by side, it was spot on.

Really well done.

I thought this

ans Kevin from motherland 😂

Aww! It was great today. I'm a sentimental one today and can't believe they are nearly forty !

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 13/02/2025 22:30

I liked that Minty was mentioned too.

placemats · 13/02/2025 22:59

A very moving episode and I love Ah Ha.

Looking forward to next week.

placemats · 13/02/2025 23:03

Phil's Dad was a shit of the highest order.

murasaki · 13/02/2025 23:12

I liked the bit where Peggy said that that's what you think I would have said but I'm not here to say otherwise so it's all we've got. Sad and clever.

SnowFrogJelly · 14/02/2025 01:06

Brilliant ep tonight
Great acting from Phil
EE classic!

He really was! Can't believe he gave Phil a bullet with his name on it 😳

I'm the same. I'm enjoying Steve's performance but I wasn't alive 40 years ago so seeing long-dead characters does nothing for me.

It was! I did chuckle at the point where Old Phil is observing the conversation going on in the past, and then he started shouting at them and they all just looked at him in shock as if to say 'where did he come from?' 😂

MissDeborah · 14/02/2025 09:14

I think the point of the throwback was to show how Phils utterly vicious, abusive father is how he found himself having this breakdown and the issues with addiction
It's been touched on previously in another episode.

Omg when he was saying how his body should be dead despite everything he had done to it😭

Redcrayons · 14/02/2025 09:48

I don’t normally bother with flashback Episodes because it’s usually an excuse to rewrite history.

but I thought it was so clever to have him looking back at his lowest point.

Young Phil was so good, must have been so daunting to have Steve McF there while he’s copying his voice and mannerisms.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 09:57

It's often been told about how the Mitchell boys were treated by Eric and how their parents seemed to favour Grant and Samantha over Phil ( although yesterday he did have a pop at Grant about being in the Army)
He was just so horrible and Peggy had to put up with a lot and some domestic abuse.
No wonder Phil is like he is

I totally agree. Phil's little monologue to Jay was brilliantly acted and I was just so disturbed for him 😞

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 14/02/2025 10:07

I was just watching some of the endings/when characters leave (it popped up on my Internet) and I've just rewatched Lola's and it was so well done. Phil did go and see her, i know he said he couldn't say goodbye yesterday but he did go and see her, stood in the doorway.

The backstory to the Mitchell's has always been really well thought out.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2025 10:18

Phil did see Lola and paid for the funeral too.
They will all miss him and his safe full of cash if he ever leaves as they all go to him for financial help ( or rip him off !)

Eric was never alive! Not in EastEnders, so the only dead one is Peggy
